Had been working in this field for almost 5 years and knew much more than was put out there.

Some of it I covered In Pandemic Now - the book - which never got out there yet - since it's author has been "seriously distracted" for ever since we knew about this in 2010.

Perhaps War of Worlds dramatized the EMP burst but there are far graver implications and the ways to be prepared for this are limited at best.

This has existed for years - but it is a current threat

Former top government officials who have been warning Washington about the vulnerability of the nation’s largely unprotected electric grid are raising new fears that troops from the jihadist Islamic State are poised to attack the system, leading to a power crisis that could kill millions.

“Inadequate grid security, a porous U.S.-Mexico border, and fragile transmission systems make the electric grid a target for ISIS,” said Peter Pry, one of the nation’s leading experts on the grid.

Others joining Pry at a press conference later Wednesday to draw attention to the potential threat said that if just a handful of the nation’s high voltage transformers were knocked out, blackouts would occur across the country.

comment: I have talked about this before and have a great deal of background and was involved in trying to make our power grid more secure. It is in more danger now than ever before in terms of the sheer number of people in the U.S. who are affiliated with radical extremist factions. Although it should be a central focus, the funding to this and NASP is so poorly funded, it is not feasible to develop tech in the U.S. to help.

This is not only an issue in the U.S. but globally as well. An EMP blast at high altitude could decimate much of the grid - though some of it is underground and there are not a lot of back up system. Also the communication systems with such reliance on cell phone as per landlines would be totaled pretty much. There is no history for us to ignore in this - but we must no ignore those in the past who failed to take action against what was obviously open door for others to attack the infrastructure. Just Saying...

This is a scene from War of the Worlds and sample if the grid were hit. An EMP would knock out many cars as well as most electrical things above ground. Everyday there are many thousands of attempts to hack into the power grid. It has already happened to a degree and could be for worse - not if, but when.

Living Without Electricity

In the previous chapter the stage is set for the beginning of new world in which the comforts, resources, and technology of the 21st century will no longer be as easily available as it once was. Having repaired many computers, I have seen the look of extreme grief as a computer user hands me their child and says “There is something terribly wrong, can you fix it.” When the lights out, and finally you realize that society, the world you knew, your life as it was is broken, and perhaps that of your children- the question will be the same. There is something terribly wrong. Can you fix it?

Of course, by that point the virus will have spread in clusters around the world, or most of it. There will not be just a handful sick or dying, there will be millions. If it is not Avian, it might be a nuclear detonation, an EMP blast, or some natural disaster. Some say not to far in the future a comet will pass close enough to the earth to create drastic changes which will endanger all life on earth. This book, therefore, is not just written to help those waking up to the reality of a series or waves of Pandemic sweeping the globe. It is about family and personal survival in the deepest sense of the word; the sacrifices, the realities, and as my commander once told me when we prepared for survival training. Forget everything you have been told and open your mind to the possibility that many things you may have heard or read were wrong.
