Someone suggested making a list for last minute preps. Though when we think we'll know when the last minute is, I don't know. Anyway, here are some quick thoughts and I know I have an actual list somewhere.... produce, refridgerated and freezer items, more wipes... add to it folks and I'll try to find my list! -- Libby |

this isn't a prep that you would buy as soon as you hear of h2h transmission, catch up on doing you laundry. seriously! and, stay on top of doing it. on the oprah show they said that chicago only has enough chemicals to purify their water for 5-7 days. because most chemicals that the U.S. uses for this purpose are shipped from overseas. so water production will crash fast. |

My last minute list: Buy: One Ton of dog food, Roto-Tiller, garden fertilizer, garden shade cloth, mulch fabric, lime (thanks Bebo), lye, Chocolate, candy (don't want to temp myself too soon). Buy all four of us several packs of undies, socks, Levis, sweatshirts, tennis shoes and work boots. I have the funds already set aside for this but haven't wanted to spend the money unless I felt that we had truly crossed the Rubicon. My list has been longer, but as the time has passed and funds became available I have been able to purchase many items that once resided on it. Do: Fill 55 gal fuel drum & all smaller gas cans. Fill ALL water containers (these are over and above standard supply I have). All laundry. Make LARGE signs that say "WE ARE ARMED AND WILL SHOOT YOU IF YOU CAME HERE TO STEAL OR DO US HARM" |

Print out a quarantine sign. I saw a link to one somewhere. Was it on this site? Laminate sign. Make several to post. Ditto on the laundry thing. Also, (and probably only someone who was shower-deprived because they feared a young child swinging from the drapes, clogging the toilet, or playing in the cat litter and skipped a shower to avoid catastrophe would think of this) TAKE YOUR DAILY SHOWER! You never know when the water will go off and you'd be sad if you had missed the chance for a real shower. In the same vein, flush the toilets, don't put off running the dishwasher, and -- as much as I hate to say it -- keep up with the housework that involves the use of water. Haven't found my last minute list yet, but I know it also involves cat food and cat litter. -- Libby |

my last minute list will include: extra water, junk food, gasoline, propane, batteries and every-day refridgeratable items that we would normally get during our weekly grocery shopping: yogurt, cheese, milk, etc. power may or may not go down, and we probably have a few days before it would go down. prescriptions We'll all want to hit the stores ASAP after learning about H2H transmission! |

As I was posting my list of items I thought of another that I was going to add. Some large, beautiful potted plants. Natural air cleaners and beautiful to look at. Caring for them would also be a diversion. |

SZ, you can make your own lye if need be. Take ashes from fire (wood only) put them in a big coffee filter and slowly pour water (rain water) over the ashes. Homemade lye! I will be getting some lime, wood, garden seeds, tarp, wine, crisco, coleman stove and propane tanks so I can cook. Also more candles, matches, fresh fruit and veggies, frozen stuff and more water! Anyone know where to get the colapsable water storage containers? Oh, I also need an axe! |

I keep three list things Im buying now food, electronican, paper items My last list is of things I feel I wont be fighting people for. I want to not be going shopping in crowds in the end . My last will probally to the local dollar store for extra baterries and toilet paper and candy even extra seeds. I actually have a dry run of what I will buy from each store I usually go to. I plan never to fight anyone for food so I hope God willing my food shoping will be done and Iwill just need non food items that most people wont concider urgent The last power outage major stores closed their doors but the little dollar stores stayed open . On the last days you should be getting water or filling water bottles Edited by RBARNES55 |

I keep three lists myself, and they all seem to change constantly.
One of things I am buying or doing now. One of things I thought of, after I made the first list. And one of my last minute items. I keep the last minute one taped to the visor of my truck, just in case, I need to act without thinking or don't have time to waste wondering what else I need to grab FAST. I can run to the store with it and be out in ten minutes. And home in thirty minutes. |

I have two lists one for me and one for my DH . We both know ahead of time what we need to do. Should only take a couple of hours, I shop fast anyway Ive run over in my head what I need to get and where it is. I feel like some athlete mentally preparing for competition I dont think Ill be in the store more than 10 min. I think its gonna take more time than we think for the majority of the population to get it and start runs on the stores. Even if we get H2H transmission reported in the MSM. Im dumbfounded on how many peple know about some celebrities life or the latest desperate hoousewivies episode but nothing on the real news. Me thinks the people here will be home enjoying a glass of wine before the puplic gets it |

The only things I plan to buy at the last minute are perishable food (mostly onions, garlic and hard squash) and 30 gallons of gasoline to"bug out" if need be. I am buying the plastic gas cans and gasoline stabalizer tomorrow..... will wait to fill them as I don't like the idea of all that explosive fluid around. I hear alo of folks saying they plan to go grocery shopping as soon as H2H is confirmed...... I say better 6 months too early than 5 minutes too late.

If last minute prepping means mixing with the crowds I will have failed as a prepper. If I'm planning for a long term "bug out" my provisions will not be perishable, in the short term sence. All my last minute prepping will be done well in advance of the last minute. I will not put myselt in a risk situation, nor will I do anything that is going to increase my stress level at an anxious time. More people will die as a result of panic than H5N1. Don't allow yourselves to be paniced, remain calm or you could end up doing something dumb that could cost you your life. like standing in a supermarket queue next to a guy shedding BF

'Last hours' shopping: filling up my gastanks in both cars, more (dry) dogfood more water (will have to be stored in the living room, all closets are FULL!) fresh fruits, vegetables and potatoes filling up bath and containers with tapwater (including 4 drops bleach each) bringing all my trash to the dump (don't want to get stuck with that!) only if possible without wrestling through crowds: more soupmix, canned meat & fish, canned vegetables & fruit, cooking oil more OTC meds more candles, lamp oil, batteries more everything..... I thought that I was quite well prepared, but after reading the story by Canada Sue, I'm a bit depressed... How can anybody be prepared for this???! Marjo |

I went to a Dollar Tree today and was able to find alot of over the counter meds and all types of vitamins for just 1.00 apiece, I have checked ingredients and they are the same as the name brand items, I found Acetominiphen (adult and childrens liquid), Ibuprofen (adult & childrens liguid), generic Milk of Magnesia, PeptoBismal, Loratadine 5ct, cortizone cream, muscle rub for sore aches, the alcohol and peroxide were 1.00/2. They also had 30ct. multi-vitamins, vitamin c, and many others. 4 packs of batteries, latex medical gloves 10ct., plastic gloves 100ct. flashlights, hand sanitizer, baby wipes, etc. If you don't have a Dollar Tree near then maybe you have a Dollar General, they are reasonbly priced also, generic Benadryl for 1.50 (I use this all the time, same ingredients as the name brand) and they have a 30ct. anti-diahrea pills for $3.00, 15lb. cat food $5, also have dog food, canisters of powdered drink mixes 1.50, alot of their items are cheaper than Walmart.
