I forgot to post yesterday, oh my! I guess all the Super Tuesday excitement....lol Anyway, what does, everyone have planned for this month? We have had awesome weather! We are already in the 60's and 70's, my daffodils are flowering, my peach and plum trees are blossoming. This is the first year for the plum trees, so hoping for plums this year.

I think I have everything planned by ripening for our area of what I want to plant now as far as the fruit goes. For my future planning of having free fruit for the summer. Went on the OSU extension website to check when things ripen. Also had to research which brands are self-pollinating. Going tree shopping this weekend.

Cherry tree/Stella ripens June 5-20 need to get
Plum trees 2 Methley ripen June 15-25 have
Peach tree ripen July have
Apple tree (some ripen in August/some September) need to get
Grapes ripen Aug 20 need to get
Pomegranite late summer/fall need to get

I would also like to get some small citrus bushes/trees for the house or back porch. Something I could have outdoors in the summer but move inside in the winter. Maybe a lemon or lime?

I've been on a planting kick too, have strawberries going, and two types of  cucumbers. Still need to get my mini tree. I keep putting it off haha We are finally getting weather in the 70s now and should be expecting rain next week. Otherwise, pet preps and more OTC things. Probably some allergy pills included.
Be prepared! It may be time....^_^v

Penham, we have a stellar cherry and it's wonderful. Ours is about 6 years old and we get wonderful fruit every summer. Just bear in mind that you do need to net it. I forgot last year and in one morning, the birds took every single cherry. This year I netted as soon as the fruit started to turn pink and we had a wonderful crop. Because we have to net it, we prune ours every autumn and it is only 6 ft high but lots and lots of side shoots.

Have you thought about blackcurrant bushes. They are hardy and very nutritious. Full of Vit C. Very easy to grow too.

I'm concentrating on getting a new area under cultivation for next summer. I'm clearing an area that's fenced and measures 8m x 22m. I'm just removing the tall weeds and then I'm going to cover it in cow poo and then a woven weed suppressant fabric. I'll weight that down with bricks and just leave it until October when we can start our spring planting. By then it should be full of worms and be weed free. Or that's the plan anyway!

Thank you for the tips on the cherry tree KiwiMum! Very helpful. I love cherries and they are very expensive here. So that is a priority.

They are expensive here too. $20 a kilo this year. I'm putting in 2 more of the same cherries this winter. There's someone not far from us who has an old tunnel house frame that the plastic has long since vanished from, and he's covered it with netting and grows 6 cherries in it. He has enough to sell them to passersby.

£12.50 here, KiwiMum.  That is about $26.17 in your money. I know it is winter here and they are imports, but that is really pricey, and that was the cheapest I could find.

Growing them is looking like a great option.

My daughter is coming home from college this weekend with her truck, she has a full size pickup, I just have an SUV and a small pickup, so I have been waiting on her truck to transport trees. So I will definitely be getting some trees tomorrow.

I got 2 semi-dwarf apple trees and got them planted this weekend. I tried to get cherry trees too, but they didn't have the kind I was looking for.

I have baby plums on my two trees this year, I am so excited! I planted them 2 years ago and this is the first year they are producing fruit. I hope they do well. My peach tree is still loaded with blossoms, so it will do well. I went to Health Fair and was given a tomato plant, so I guess I will be planting that also.

Penham, I grow lettuce too, and have found through trial and error that the most useful thing to have, if you grow lettuce, is a piece of horticultural fleece. I'm not sure if it will be called that in the America but it's a piece of thin white synthetic frost fleece that you can put over plants. It's very cheap and I have a piece about 3m x 4m. I find that I use it almost all year round over my lettuces. It protects them from frost and then in the summer it protects them from fierce sun - because lettuce is an under storey plant and likes partial dappled shade and doesn't like full sun.

It's Autumn here and I've got about 40 lettuces at various stages growing. I have planted them all together and have also got some basil growing there so that the frost cloth will cover it too and extend its season. I find a couple of short bamboo canes with a small flower pots upturned on the end, stuck in amongst the lettuces will hold the fleece about a foot above them and they do really well underneath it.

You can grow lettuce all year round - if you can bear to eat it in the winter. Personally I'd prefer something stodgy like dumplings!

Do you guys recommend any particular brand of tazer or pepper spray? I caught a maintenence worker here after business hours with his hand in my laundry *unmentionables and whatnot*. He questioned me about whether my laundry was my laundry and it is because my laundry was the only laundry left in the room. He hurried away because another woman and her child came to check their mail, but now I feel violated in a way by this and will report him tomorrow. I'm just disgusted and I'm not sure if he took anything of mine yet and I'm folding half wet clothing because I ran out of quarters and have no idea how long he was in my stuff. :/

Yep just go on line and there are lots of companies that make pepper spray.   Look at the capsaicin amount the more the worse it is for the attacker.

I would report this guy and ask if he has keys to your apartment. Ask what they are going to do about him and that you don't feel safe. Put a hand throw bolt on your door and use it when you get in your apartment. Try and stay with your laundry as you do it and keep your pepper spray when doing your laundry.

Hope this helps you Hachi. Stay safe.

Thank you for your response, FluMom. I actually didn't know about the capcasin level thing. I originally thought they'd be similar to each other, but vary in potency. I'm going in as soon as they open in the morning. I just feel so grossed out by it all that I lost my appetite. I have a bar thing that goes on the door knob, but I also have a sliding glass balcony that needs something too. Not sure what to get for that. I wish they had chairs or something in the laundry rooms because my legs aren't very good to stand for over an hour and almost a half. I'll try to stay safe, FluMom. Thanks for the well wishes.

Hachi, that's good advice from FluMom. Why not also download a panic app onto your phone. There are ones that activate when you give your phone a good shake, they can emit an alarm, start recording and transmit that recording to social media and the emergency contacts of your choice.

How about putting something really noisy inside the sliding door and your front door, so that if they open, it'll all come crashing to the ground and make plenty of noise. Anything to give you warning. That guy certainly shouldn't have keys to your apartment.

Have you thought about changing your locks, but keeping the originals to change back when you move out. Don't tell anyone you're doing this. Presumably no one should be going into your rooms, so no one should notice.

I had two incidences in two separate apartments I rented as a student where someone unknown let themselves in. The first one was in a shared flat and this person must have thought we were all out and unlocked the front door. I heard the door open, came out of my room and called out to see who it was, and they ran off. We changed the locks an hour later. The second time, it was a tiny flat I rented on my own, and I came back from work to find that some of my stuff had been moved around. I never did find out who'd been in there, but I changed the locks and moved out a month later.

Try and fit big bolts to the inside of all your doors, then you can safely lock yourself inside at night.

Be sure you do report this guy, or his actions may escalate to worse things.

I sympathise!

Many years ago, before I met WillobyBrat, I shared a room with another girl in a house full of lodgers.  Our underwear used to go missing.
                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 That was bad enough.

We both moved out shortly after waking up one morning to find the landlord standing at the foot of our beds.  AAAAAAAAGH!!!

The shocking memory still comes back to haunt me occasionally.

Oh how scary Hachi. The sliding glass door, we used to always cut a wooden broom handle and stick in the track, so no one could break in. You would have to break glass to get in.

Hi KiwiMum, thank you for your response. I had never heard of a panic app before, I'm going to look into that. I think my phone has an emergency mode, but no idea how that works. I put in my report to the office today and said that I hope they don't have access to my apartment because I felt legitimately unsafe. Considering I am now wondering if the maintenance person who fixed my door and window is the same person who was in my laundry. I should change those too and then just switch it out when they have to do inspections.

Oh wow, Technophobe, that's scary! :o

Hmm that's a good idea, Penham. I kinda wanna set up cameras in the front and balcony parts. I'm on contract until July, and now am considering moving elsewhere because of this.

Hachi- All of the above is good advice but also consider making a police report! Also if you have a sliding glass door you need to consider a sliding bolt with the dowel/broom stick! Every maintenance man worth his salt knows you can lift these doors right out of there tracks and a bolt prevents this!

Yes, cameras are a good idea, I have been considering that myself, just for the added security.

There are a lot of creepy people out there. Many years ago, I rented a house and I did laundry and would hang the laundry outside because there was a clothesline. Several times I noticed my panties were missing off the line. So, I had to quit hanging out my laundry, but then I had to wonder who the weirdo was????

Hachi, have you got good, non see through curtains? I'm a great believer in them. I worry about perverts sitting outside and watching at night when anything you do in an illuminated room is visible from outside. I don't want to freak you out but I do know someone who had discovered someone was watching her night after night. The police advised her that being a peeping tom can escalate into something much more serious. She moved house very quickly.

A police report sounds like a good idea to me. Basically, make a big noisy fuss and let everyone you meet know. Certainly bullies operate on fear, and perhaps wierdos do as well. The more people you can tell about this, then the more people will start looking out for this guy (and others like him) and the more people will be keeping an eye on you. Make sure all your neighbours know.
