Since masks are going to be at a premium I'm wondering if ozone gas flowed through a mask and UV shined on the surface would allow their quicker reuse? Anybody with any knowledge in this area?
I've looked at making a change area flooded with ozone and having UV lights in the ceiling, any thoughts? Both ozone and UV sources can be setup to run off of batteries and are very low power. Edited by corky52 |

I have been thinking along the same lines for myself, and while I certainly do not want to reuse masks I plan to put used ones in some sort of disinfecting system such UV, ozone, chlorine - for days or weeks. I would only do this as a very last resort. Here's an FDA site that says NEVER to reuse a respirator and a related site on PPE. Apologies if this was posted elsewhere in these forums. http://www.fda.gov/cdrh/ppe/masksrespirators.html http://www.fda.gov/cdrh/ppe/fluoutbreaks.html#15 Here is a site a UNC, see second paragraph under NEWS about shortages of N95s and reuse - no mention of disinfecting that I saw unless I missed it. http://www.unc.edu/depts/spice/rep-vii-2.html Disclosure: I have no expertise or experience with this, just my opinion. There's a lot to learn, just my opinions here.
