MOSCOW, July 24. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday will continue communication with his Belarusian counterpart Alexander Lukashenko, who is currently on a working visit to Russia.

The Belarusian leader arrived in Russia on Saturday evening, and the two presidents’ press services initially announced that Putin and Lukashenko would hold one-day talks on Sunday. However, the Russian president told his Belarusian counterpart at yesterday’s meeting that they would continue negotiations on Monday.

The US military is readying approximately 2,500 service members for deployment in the West Asian region, as its proxy forces in Syria’s northeast and al-Tanf areas seek potential alliances with Takfiri terrorists in the northwestern Idlib province.

With tensions boiling between the Syrian government-aligned forces and the US occupation troops in the war-ravaged Arab country, it might be a sign of more violence on the way, observers believe.

According to a report published in New York local media in mid-July, some 2,500 10th Mountain Division soldiers were being sent “off to combat” in Iraq and Syria.

It is not exactly clear how many soldiers from the light-infantry division will be dispatched for operations in the two West Asian countries.

Representatives of dozens of countries are expected to attend the Eastern Economic Forum to be held in Vladivostok on September 10-13, Russia's Deputy Prime Minister Yury Trutnev told reporters, adding that interest in the forum this year is at the same level as last year, if not higher.

"Today we do not feel that the interest in the Forum is lower than in previous years. We also count on the presence of representatives of dozens of neighboring and non-neighboring countries from all over the world. We will work together," he said.

Last year, the Eastern Economic Forum was attended by more than 7,000 participants from 68 countries and territories. The largest foreign delegations were from China, Myanmar, Mongolia, India, Armenia and South Korea. As part of the Forum's main program, over 100 events were held and 296 agreements were signed for a total of 3.3 trillion rubles ($35.8 bln).

When asked specifically about types of assistance the US could provide to Ukraine, there is broader support for help with intelligence gathering (63%) and military training (53%) than for providing weapons (43%), alongside very slim backing for US military forces to participate in combat operations (17%).

There is a strong partisan divide about supporting the war:

Within both parties, there are splits by ideology. On providing additional funding, liberal Democrats are far and away the most supportive, 74% back it compared with 51% of moderate or conservative Democrats. Among Republicans, about three-quarters of conservatives oppose new funding (76%) compared with 61% of moderate or liberal Republicans.

Independents mostly say the US has done enough to help Ukraine (56%) and that they oppose additional funding (55%).

The progressives in the U.S., like the Greens in Europe, are now the fringe that is most eager to pursue the war. They are, of course, also those who are the least eager to serve in the military.

It is interesting to compare that with a change in opinion of young Poles, aged 16-34:

There has been a fundamental shift when it comes to the stance that young Poles think their government should adopt in the war in Ukraine. In 2022, an overwhelming majority of 83% argued that the government should support Ukraine – but this number has changed drastically.

Now, 65% of respondents back continuous support for Ukraine, whereas the remaining 34% wish for Poland to stay neutral. Clearly, more than one and a half years into the current phase of the conflict and amid fears of other countries being pulled into the war, young people have become more cautious.

Those numbers are a month old. It is likely that the support has sunk further and will no longer be in a majority by the end of this year.

While no poll can be trusted fully they show in aggregate that the general opinion is moving away from supporting the war.

That gives some hope that any unnecessary prolonging of the war, which some neoconservative circles seem to wish, will be met by a strong opposition.

Last week, Fitch Ratings downgraded the US’s long-term credit rating from AAA to AA+. While the downgrade won’t significantly impact the US government’s ability to borrow, it should serve as a wake-up call because there is a much bigger problem looming on the horizon: a market-driven downgrade of the US dollar.

The Fitch Downgrade and the Bigger Problem

With the current debt ceiling fight resolved, Fitch removed the US’s Issuer Default Rating from “watch negative” to “a stable outlook.” But the end of the debt ceiling standoff wasn’t enough to alleviate fears about America’s debt trajectory.

"The repeated debt-limit political standoffs and last-minute resolutions have eroded confidence in fiscal management.”

Nevertheless, the markets generally brushed off the Fitch downgrade. And in the big scheme of things, it is irrelevant.

It doesn’t even make sense to apply a credit rating on the US government. The point of a rating is to indicate the likelihood of default. Nobody is really worried about the US government defaulting because the Federal Reserve can always create more money.

But that doesn’t mean there is no risk in buying US Treasuries. And that risk applies to any bond you buy with US dollars. It doesn’t matter how credit-worthy the issuer of the bond happens to be. In fact, the same risk applies if you take your dollars and stuff them under the mattress.

That risk is inflation.

Every day, your dollar is losing its purchasing power.

Dollar depreciation is like a default. If a government has to resort to a printing press to pay off its bills, you still get your money back when a government bond matures, but you lose purchasing power. The dollars you get back won’t buy as much stuff.

So, an honest rating of US government debt would be junk status — not because of the default risk but because of the high likelihood that it will continue to inflate away the dollar’s value.

In fact, we’re insulting to junk status. You are guaranteed to lose with a long-term US Treasury. There is no chance that you will buy a 30-year Treasury with a yield of just over 4% today and break even at the end of that term. Sure, you’ll get all of your dollars back (most likely), but those dollars won’t have anywhere near the value that they had when you loaned them out.

That raises a key question: if you’re guaranteed to lose with a bond, what should the rating be?

At some point, people need to realize that the fact the US government will have to print money in order to pay its debts is a reason not to buy Treasuries. Keep in mind, Treasuries are just future payments of US dollars. So, you should really be looking at the rating of the currency and consider what the dollar will be worth in 30 years. Will that 4% interest cover what you lose through inflation over that period of time and give you some kind of positive return?

The bottom line is the rating is meaningless. All US government debt is junk. People need to get out of all dollar-denominated debt as quickly as they can.

“These forecasts did not take into account that BRICS would expand its membership very quickly. A larger BRICS will mean the world will increasingly use U.S. dollars less,” he said.

Two French-supplied "SCALP" cruise missiles slammed into Russia's Black Sea Naval Headquarters on Crimea today.  Several high ranking Russian military officers were reportedly killed and the building in Sevastopol "split in half."

There is fury in Moscow, with leading Russian government officials publicly saying "It's time for an ultimatum to the West."

Russian sources say two SCALP missiles, supplied by France-- and not Storm Shadow missiles which would have been British-supplied -- hit the building

The rockets penetrated several floors, tearing the building in half. The fire at the scene was burning until a short while ago.

The attack has sparked outrage in Moscow as it comes on the heels of a double strike against the Kilo-class amphibious assault ship and submarine.

"The Kiev regime, instigated and pushed by the collective West, will not stop escalating the military conflict with Russia, each time raising its level and crossing any "red lines" again and again" say Russian officials.

This trend is confirmed by today's attack by the Ukrainian Armed Forces on Sevastopol.

The attack on Sevastopol was probably coordinated with the Western allies. Kiev has already confirmed its participation in it.

According to the Flightradar24 portal, an American P-8A Poseidon reconnaissance aircraft, having taken off from Sicily at 9:31 Moscow time, was patrolling over Romania during the Ukrainian missile attack on Sevastopol. Earlier, a US RQ-4B Global Hawk reconnaissance drone was spotted in the area.

The editor-in-chief of the Russian state TV channel RT, Rossiya Segodnya news agency and Sputnik news agency, Margarita Simonyan, believes that after today's attack in Sevastopol, Russia should stop turning a blind eye to the direct involvement of the West in the military conflict , limited to usual warnings and cautions.

Details are emerging.  It is now CONFIRMED a Russian Army reconnaissance team destroyed a German-supplied Leopard tank of the Ukrainian military but manned with a crew comprised of Bunderswehr soldiers.   The Bunderswehr is the actual active duty Army of Germany.

This took place in Zaporozhye this morning.

A member of the actual Russian Recon team directly and personally involved in the incident has stated the following: "When we curbed another offensive and ATGM-ed [destroyed with an anti-tank guided missile] the Leopard, we moved out to the burned vehicle hoping to seize the 'tongue.' Then we saw that the crew's driver-mechanic was severely injured and the others were dead. Once he awoke, the mechanic started yelling 'nicht schießen' ["do not shoot" in German]," the head of the reconnaissance team said.

"The mechanic repeatedly stated that he was not a mercenary but a Bundeswehr serviceman, and that he and the rest of the crew were members of the same unit of the German army," the Russian fighter said, adding that while receiving medical aid, the German soldier named his brigade and its dislocation site.

To deny Hamas leaders/fighters escaping to Egypt Israel bombed the Gaza-Egypt border crossing. It will limit traffic-but tunnels may still see Hamas leaders moving out, weapons moving into Gaza...

A very major question in need urgently for answers is how Israel security could have missed the Hamas -over 1 year long- preparation for the october 7 attack ....There may be much more "surprises" for Israel if they move into Gaza cutting that urban area with 2,3 million population into several "slices"...

One of the remarks a high ranking IDF military made "drones will not be a major factor" could signal Israel military did not see what is happening in Ukraine...

DJ-A very worrying aspect of the Ukraine war is "drone guided hand granates", small drones with high explosives moving into bunkers, even cars...

Drone warfare is changing the battle field...we may see drones fighting drones...Electronic warfare may be part of modern wars...

Gaza may have limited military means...Hezbollah in Lebanon will be supplied from Syria/Iran...some estimates go to 250,000 missiles...Iron Dome air defense of Israel can NOT deal with such high numbers....

Another aspect may be linking the Lebanon and Syria/Golan front lines...Israe l may be able to mobilize over 500,000 military...The US/NATO may be sending in supplies to enable those military to fight...But some estimates warn in an all out attack (if Israel would attack Iran...but also if Israel goes full scale against Gaza) Hezbollah missiles could destroy half of Israel...

With Syria (Iran) also joining the war that perspective only gets more worse...

So-YES-the US/NATO may get more involved...

It would be so welcome if US/NATO did push for de-escalation...however "diplomacy" is no longer in use by the US, NATO, EU....

IF !!! US/NATO takes the side of Israel and joins military strikes - NATO is fighting Palestininans, Arabs, Muslims the risks for very major escalation is much to high...
