No coronavirus cases among Umrah pilgrims, says Health Ministry

Saudi Gazette report

RIYADH – The Ministry of Health announced on Thursday that there were no cases of Middle East Respiratory Syndrome-Coronavirus (MERS-CoV) or other contagious diseases reported among the Umrah pilgrims. The ministry has so far provided healthcare services to a total of 16,532 Umrah pilgrims at its hospitals and primary health centers in Makkah during Ramadan, the Saudi Press Agency reported quoting a ministry statement.

The ministry, represented by the Directorate of Health Affairs in Makkah, has started implementing an integrated plan to provide flawless round-the-clock healthcare services for the pilgrims during Ramadan under the close supervision of Minister of Health Khaled Al-Falih, the statement said.

Apart from the hospitals and health centers in the city, the ministry also runs two health centers within the Grand Mosque complex.

Comment: That's an average of 1800 pilgrims a day! Considering Ramadan lasts another 22 days and the incubation period is sometimes as much as 14 days, it's a little too early to be claiming victory!
