I posted this on the other board but I was wondering, I need thyroid supplement medication. I am only allowed 1 month at a time. I take a rarer form, ie Armour dessicated thyroid as Synthroid ie not effective for me. Any ideas how I can stockpile a bit of it? I have been reading the boards for awhile and I appreciate most of the logical and knowledgable people here. I am a bit aware of being taken "by surprise" by a "bug". I was exposed to and caught the measles a year or so ago by a traveller from India to the midwest that came to the mall where I work and went to my cellphone store at the same time I was there. Being older, I was not immunized as the younger "kids" were at the store in the mall were I work. I was quarantined by the Dept. of Public Health, ACK, it was kind of not fun, being a single parent and all. Not only was I enlightened as to how this kind of thing can happen but, scared and ready to plan ahead in some capacity now. Thanks all.

Amy Jo, when you say you are restricted to 30 days supply is that due to insurance paying for it? If you could pay for it yourself could you get a larger supply? We have also all seen the reports of Oldster's getting the higher dose pills and then halving or quartering them (cheaper in the long run). While this is never recommended under "normal" circumstances...BF ain't normal. Also, if your insurance has mail order scrip they will do 90 days at a time. Hubby gets his cholesterol meds that way. Plus I know doc's are becoming aware of the possible importance of stocking up. Also, since I'm too lazy to look it up...is this a critical medication or something that just makes your life more managable? |

Thanks Sophie. I take Thyroid to stay alive, mine completely quit working when I was 16. If I even take a smaller dosage or take it a few hours late, I get adverse effects. I do not have insurance. My pharmacy states it is "policy" to only give one month out at a time. I have tried in the past to get more than one at a time, ie vacation, etc...they said they could have it called in to wherever I was but they could not give me more at the time. They are one of the few pharmacies who actually stock my kind. I could try my doctor when I can afford a visit and see if she has a recommendation for possibly getting extra prescrip like for a vacation, etc... Just thought maybe someone would have an idea here.
Thanks for your response! |

I'll see what I can do but I highly doubt that one will fly. I am a single parent with a job at the mall, a $200 car living in a trailer court.

Hmmm. I wish I could come up with a better solution for you. Does anyone know anything about ordering prescription drugs internationally and whether or not it's reliable. Also whether drugs like Amyjo needs would be available? -- Libby

How much does a human life cost? You can bet the politicans will have their anti virals first and best health care access available, after they test it on the common folk to make sure it's safe and then give it to all their buddies.
You bet your sweet a$$ they will. I really hate it that politicians think they are worth more than the rest of us Peons.
I wanted to say that I was at a Pandemic Planning Meeting and I heard several state that the antivirals and vaccines would be used for the healthcare, government (families) and military before any civilians. And by the time they came to the civilians (if they made it that far) that the production / manufacturing would not be adequate for us all. So I guess isolation is still has the most hope in my eyes, if this did hit. April |

Yeah April, we are sooooooo far down the line for vaccine that by the time our turn comes the vaccine will be four mutations along and it won't do us a bit of good. Well, maybe a little good, but not much! But I would GLADDLY stand at the back of the line if it would mean that all those under 40 would get a vaccine. Especially all the young ones! |

SophiaZoe, I am so happy that you responded to one of my posts. I began to think that I was not welcome. I guess just not good enough content. So I guess I have to kick it up a notch! |

Oh April, NOOOOO..... I love your posts! They are just usually so informative that I couldn't possible add to the information! This was more of a conversational post so, of course I had to throw my 2 cents in. You provide us with WONDERFUL information, please don't ever think I (we) don't appreciate your contributions. BTW: I was noticing that in the NEJM they mentioned prednisone (sp) and I remembered that from your list as a possible therapeutic. I had remembered contrary, that it might be contra-indicated...I remembered wrong. Gosh I hope at least one or two of these little glimmers of hope pan out. Debi |

Some will not like this suggestion, but here goes anyway - LIE! Tell them your purse was stolen with your meds in it, or that you accidentally knocked the open container off the bathroom sink and into the toilet. They will have to give you a refill. Go to a different pharmacy that doesn't share a data system with your usual pharmacy next time you need a refil. When you travel out of town, claim you forgot your meds at home and need some ASAP. Order them over the internet, this should be really easy if you have an actual prescription, and could save you money as well. Canadian pharmacies are popular these days and have an excellent track record. Honestly, you are not doing anything "wrong", it's not like you'll be selling them on the black market or using them to get high. This is to protect your health and possibly your life. We do this sort of thing all the time, and have had no problems pulling it off. We have a pretty nice assortment of antibiotics now that were "oops" lost or spilled . |

Blackbird singing in the dead of the night. Take these broken wings and learn to fly. All my life. You were only waiting for this moment to arise.
