Holy crap. Zika is already in my area. Someone living just over my back fence was found to have it. The hospital stated it was an imported case and that no one was at risk because we don't have the mosquito which transmits the virus. I feel very safe... not

I think you should help us do an experiment Cob. Go over there a split a couple bottles of Chardonnay with her, and check the transmission modes. Kiss her and wait a few days to see if you catch it with bodily fluids and saliva. If nothing after that, then take the plunge into the other more common mode of transmission.  Sorry man.... you have to take a hit for the team on this one, and we need your help. You can do this! ya, I'm terrible... I hear you. Yesterday as a mosquito sat on my screen I looked at it with an entirely new prospective. We are near a large immigrant population from Mexico and I even go to an Hispanic supermarket. Life expectancy for mosquito 1 second. Zika may become a lot nastier now they have linked it to GB and paralysis. Not looking forward to the summer. My wife has a mild virus with Rash. The rash is identical to a Zika rash... could it be??? Not bull s#!tting. for reals. It looks like a pretty common rash, so it could be anything. ( not her arm)  I hope she didn't go over the back fence and take one for the team!!!!

Well Cobber, in all honesty, there really is nothing to worry about. Zika can be nasty, but, unless she is pregnant, there is about 1 chance in 10 thousand of something worse coming from it. If you are worried, by all means go and see the doc. (I would want to know for future reference), but don't assume you have to just because it could be Zika. For the vast majority of people, Zika is a mild disease. The chance of getting run over by a bus at precisely 8pm on Thursday is about as big as the one Zika will harm her any worse than a mild rash and a bit of a temperature. If you plan on later pregnancies, it could even be an effective vaccination: just remember all the toddlers going to (chicken)pox parties. All of that is assuming this is actually Zika, it could be a new washing powder, or poison oak/ivy, or a million other things. Just on the off chance, all our fingers are crossed for you over here on the dark side. The best thing we can do against the Zika Virus is to protect ourselves before it is too late! First and foremost, when doing any activity that will require you to be out doors for more than 2 minutes, douse yourself in insect repellent from head to toe. The smell is never pleasant, but just go ahead and use a very large amount - in the end it is totally worth it. Secondly, prepare your home, and make it mosquito proof. Repair any window/door screens as necessary, and should you have any HVAC/plumbing pipes that are open and would be easy access for bugs to enter your house from the outside, cover them with a fine woven wire mesh material ( http://www.bwire.com - http://www.bwire.com ) - just remember this mesh must be very fine - the openings in the wire mesh material must be smaller/tighter than the body of an adult mosquito.
