The original thread I posted on this is quite large.

http://avianflutalk.com/coming-of-the-ice-age-2016_topic35172.html" rel="nofollow - http://avianflutalk.com/coming-of-the-ice-age-2016_topic35172.html

There is new evidence that the global warming may still bring on a miniature Ice Age to northern America and parts of Europe. I am restarting this with one of my favorite movies - The Day After Tomorrow.

I have decided to do the book - The Coming of the Ice Age - which should be out in 2017. There is enough data, if I don't get targeted by the environment is not changing people .

If this warming melts the ice caps and the Gulf Stream is diluted - we will see a massive cooling of the areas being kept unnaturally warm. There is evidence this is happening.

jbmichaels - my nom de plume - to be continued.

Back to Climate Change 101.  Global Warming is a reality and ice caps and glaciers are melting at a record rate. Yet, the hype, the politically driven campaign to limit carbon emissions is just that. If we stopped all carbon emissions, no planes, no cars, no industrial pollution for 30 years - we would barely prevent a 1 degree climate change.

Look to the coal industry and manufacturing in the U.S., this has campaign to switch to electricities which in the making are for more polluting, devastated not only jobs in states which rely on these industries, but the economy. No doubt, we want to try and have cleaner air, but not it if will completely destroy our ability to compete on a global scale.

The irony is - no matter what we do, the ice is going to melt and we might have an Ice Age in the U.S., Canada, and parts of Europe.  The dilution of the Gulf Stream and cold spots which will ruin the circulation and cancel the warming effect, could cover most of the northern states in the U.S. in a series of arctic vortexes. The CO2 massive changes during the last Ice Age beginning were long before humankind started polluting the planet.  A storm is coming.

Basically - we need to prepare. This carefully orchestrated outcry against manufacturing is unlikely to do much exact finance special industries born to use the funding to "help save the planet" by better bus schedules and public transit ideas.

The reality is we do have to take a breather from a collison course with a failing U.S. and world economy. There are a lot of good facts in the film below. And some very specific references to myths promoted to scare people.

Med, how do we prepare? I have put in manual saws and the tools to sharpen, and most of what is needed to cut down trees to use for heat.

I have seeds just in case we can grow stuff. But what do you suggest we need to do to prep for "ice age".

if/when  the "global conveyer" stops we could be deep into an ice age " with 10 years,

and that could last 10,000 years ,

i believe thats where we will be ,global warming means to me

an ICE AGE  coming , best move to Australia.....

as i did ....

2000 years ago there was 2 billion people on the planet, since 1850 we have put  further 5 1/2 billion on this rock, 150 years ago there was no cars ,planes ,powererd ships

we are digging up carbon and burning it ,carbon that has been buried for millions of years ,and we doing that "overnight"

you must have rocks in your head if you dont think that will change the chemistry of the earth.....Image result for world population chart

There are a number of options here depending on the severity of the climate change. The most basic ways are learn to grow and either can or store food during a brief planting and harvesting season. Even with a bad environment, solar power may be adequate to do whatever is needed when skies are clear. Some might consider hunting as there are numerous animals which can and will survive.

Moving south of course is an option, if only to southern parts of the U.S. As you mentioned FluMom, manual tools and items not using power will be very useful. Humankind did survive for thousands of years without electricity and still can.

One very important part would be preparing for a sudden stretch of very cold weather, perhaps as much as -30 degrees F.  If it gets cold enough you will need to melt water even to drink it.  As John Ray and I discussed in West Virginia - in such states you can "mine" coal from a hillside where veins are visible. A heater can be made as well as wood burning stoves to cook with.

Given some real indications that the Gulf Stream may dilute those who prepare, have more than a weeks food which in some cities people often do not, have a better chance.

Carbon 20 - I am very interested in looking at what an Ice Age would be like in Australia or what it was like.  Take a look at this if you would -

http://creation.com/australian-ice-age-animal-extinction" rel="nofollow - http://creation.com/australian-ice-age-animal-extinction

Most large mammals and birds went extinct at the end of the Ice Age, but Australia was the hardest hit of all the continents, with 90% going extinct. Uniformitarians try to explain this via two different hypotheses: either they went extinct because of climate change—the overchill hypothesis, or humans hunted them to extinction—the overkill hypothesis. However, there are numerous problems with these explanations in general and in their specific applicability to the Australian extinctions. From a biblical perspective, severe drought at the end of the Ice Age is likely the primary factor that caused the severe extinction event of the large animals in Australia.

As I seriously begin working on The Coming of the Ice Age (also) A Survival Manual - it is amazing how much really solid evidence we are about to have some very cold temps in northern U.S. and Europe as Arctic Vortexes come down and the Gulf Stream currents begin to dilute and no longer heat our lands.

This is rather long - but there are some great animation sequences displaying and explaining how this all works and why is will happen.

i believe the Ice sheets didnt get to cover Australia,i would take a guess that we dried out ,

as  most of the the planets water would be caught up in the ice sheets,

after all Anteartica is the one driest places on the planet,

not 100% on that, best guess.....

have to research it Wink

Isaksen said the sea ice is building up much slower than normal as winter approaches."There are still huge areas in the Barents Sea and Kara Sea to the east of Svalbard that are free of ice," he said. • Scientists believe the loss of sea ice accelerates the warming because ice reflects sunlight back into space while the darker surface of the ocean absorbs most of the radiation..A report released Friday by the Stockholm Environment Institute identified the decline in sea ice cover and the thinning of the Greenland ice sheet among several "regime shifts" happening in the Arctic as a result of climate change. "These regime shifts affect the stability of the climate and landscape, plant and animal species' ability to survive, and indigenous peoples' subsistence and ways of life," the institute said.
Several studies show the world as a whole is on track for a new heat record this year, with the El Nino weather phenomenon adding to the underlying warming trend. More about:

Carbon - another factor rarely mentioned that relates to the chart you posted is the discovery in the early part of the 20th century of the process that allows natural gas to be used in the production of fertilizer. It has basically fueled the explosion in human populations by allowing us to grow far more food than was previously possible.

Flumom, even in an ice age you could still grow sprouts (sprouted seeds, not Brussel Sprouts). You can grow these in 4 - 5 days indoors and they are about the most nutricious food you can get. We love them in our house and have 3 sprouters. Seeds can be stored for years.

I used to sprout different beans and seeds, and they grow so fast that I would end up with a surplus and have to freeze them. The water that runs off makes other plants grow too - it's packed with nutrients.

yes Jacksdad ,looking back was it a good thing??,

all its done is enable people to have more kids who will never have a job or be able to read and write and

the land that they grew up on wasnt able to support then 30 years ago, now added to climate change we

have a mass movment of people ,going where?????

most people dont know the reason the USA and the world needs a stable oil supplly is without it we

wouldnt be able to grow crops..... and that ability is sadly diminishing

Nope. Definitely nope. It would be a good thing if we had the sense to limit our population and bask in the knowledge that we could produce a surplus if we wanted to. Instead, we decided to allow our population to increase to the new level of food production - or more if you consider the number of people that go to sleep hungry. Not the brightest species.

Thanks guys, I have sprout seeds but need to purchase more since they are cheap. I have put in as much as I can for cold weather and to be able to cut trees and chop ice in lakes to get water.

Just keep accumulating hand tools to be able to live back in pioneer times.

It has been raining all night and actually for days here in California. There isn't much on the news as I hear the sounds of a downpour more intense than anything I have heard for decades. We continue on a path of Gulf Stream dilution as the ice cap and glaciers melt and we are long over due for another drop of a polar vortex. Snow recently fell in Tokyo for the first time in more than 50 years.

There is an American professor touring NZ at the moment and he's saying that the human race only has 10 years to live due to out of control temperature rising. I laughed at first but have just read one of his papers in full and have to say he makes a persuasive argument. It's lengthy but interesting.

His name is Guy McPherson and this is his paper.

Polar Vortex is the name given to the sudden blast of Frigid Arctic Air descending on North America.
TEMPERATURE WARNING: FREEZING COLD AIR will descend to between Zero 0 Degrees Fahrenheit and -25 Degrees Fahrenheit.  Updated Dec.3/16
This is forming NOW and is forecast to descend upon mid-North US by Wednesday December 7, 2016
It will then move steadily across the entire USA, bringing cold temperatures with it.
Record Breaking Temperatures are possible, including Dangerous Wind Chill Values.

Many internet and TV sites do NOT even have this on their map to warn you yet.
(Go Figure. They are too busy making up FAKE NEWS.  cnn could care less about you!)

Once again we are seeing polar vortexes and this is very possibly due to the dilution of the Gulf Stream which could bring on an "Ice Age" to America and parts of Europe. Global warming is causing this by melting the ice caps and things could get much more severe not in decades but in the next few years.

The first wave of below-freezing temps hits the Midwest, Rocky Mountains and Pacific Northwest this weekend, the https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/capital-weather-gang/wp/2016/12/07/polar-vortex-unleashed-severe-cold-snap-likely-in-u-s-next-week/?utm_term=.a007307af181" rel="nofollow -

The core of the cold will grip the North Central states on Tuesday, before reaching the Northeast, including the Interstate-95 corridor, on Thursday.

Fargo, North Dakota; Minneapolis; Chicago; and Madison, Wisconsin, are a handful of the cities that will bear the brunt of the frigid conditions.

High temperatures will be in the single digits to slightly below zero for multiple days from the Dakotas through Minnesota and Wisconsin. Highs during this past week’s cold outbreak were in the teens and lower 20s in these same areas.

Highs in Chicago may not reach 10 degrees Fahrenheit by Thursday.

“Temperatures this low are 20 to 30 degrees Fahrenheit below average,” Vido said.

Low temperatures in the Midwest will plummet well below zero for most beginning as early as Monday night.

“This will be dangerous early season cold with AccuWeather RealFeel¼ Temperatures near or below zero during the day,” Vido said. “At night, RealFeel Temperatures will plummet over 10 degrees below zero throughout the region.”

comment:

It is strange that over the years in December we usually see a lot of news on the weather, the flu, and other disease outbreaks around the world.

This weather would be really disturbing to many in years past. I lost someone in February 2014 in Chicago to the flu and freezing temps.

We are still seeing signs of an approaching dilution of the Gulf Stream and a possible "Ice Age" in the U.S. and parts of Europe.

The Siberian Express will ride again next week, as frigid air pushes across much of the U.S. with temperatures in some places dropping to as much as 50 degrees Fahrenheit below average for this time of year.

The cold will come courtesy of two main weather features — a wobble in the upper level polar vortex that will pull cold air out of Siberia, Alaska and Canada.

The much-maligned polar vortex is involved in this upcoming weather whiplash event, in which parts of the U.S. will dramatically cool after the country saw its warmest fall season on record.

It is amazing how the media is so wrapped up in the U.S. election they are ignoring most of the major news in the world.  Sometimes it would seem the weather people have no idea of why things are happening and where we are headed, but once again we are plunging into another Arctic Vortex and it will have sweeping effects across the United States as we approach Christmas.

I remember Fox Network in the midst of a power out and New York with airports closed, planes grounded, showing a clip of children making a snowman and saying aren't these children having a great time.

Obviously, the world is becoming desensitized and this is because of a mainstream media which now creates the news rather than reporting it.

NASA has films up showing the meliting of the polar ice caps. While some say we are not sure if there is global warming, most certainly something is melting them.

Looks like I am pretty much winging it solo here on AFT as a nasty storm arrives here in the U.S. There is very little mainstream coverage and the updates on YouTube are sparse. The reality is that a few years ago they would be all over this but because of the election, it is being ignored.

It is bad. Will it be as bad as several years ago. We do have a Polar Vortex.

A "life-threatening cold" with record low temperatures of -34C could hit parts of America today.

Conditions in parts of the US are expected to be so dangerous that forecasters have warned people risk frostbite after being outside for 10 minutes or less.

The National Weather Service (NWS) said parts of northern US are at risk, particularly Montana and North Dakota.

The NWS said people in North Dakota face "life threatening cold" and the risk of frostbite while in Montana dangerous wind chills are expected to last through this afternoon.

We are getting the cold here in Oklahoma. Yesterday the high was 75 degrees (which is unseasonably warm) but right now its 34 with a wind chill of 22. Tonight it's supposed to drop to 9 degrees, with wind chills in the - and some ice and snow later today. We are used to ice, snow and cold, but not this cold.

The Polar Vortex is hitting across the United States as has been predicted from November.  It was near freezing her in Monterey, California where it is never that cold and although several stations are reassuring of a warm up - so far it's not happening.

With all the talk of global warming, the oceans are getting colder.  All this ice melting is effecting the climate and especially the Gulf Stream which warms both the United States and Europe.

This is a link to a guest essay by Andy May and Javier at https://wattsupwiththat.com/2016/11/24/the-bray-hallstatt-cycle/" rel="nofollow - Watts Up With That

The evidence for a persistent irregular climate cycle with a period of 2400 ±200 years is strong. There is compelling evidence of a solar cycle of about the same length and phase; suggesting that the solar cycle might be causing the climate cycle. We will present a summary of the evidence, beginning with the original paleontological evidence, followed by the cosmogenic radionuclide (10Be or Beryllium-10 and 14C or Carbon-14) evidence. For more information, a bibliography of many papers discussing topics relevant to the Bray (Hallstatt) cycle can be found here. Only a small portion of the relevant papers are mentioned in this summary post.

This is the section that mentions solar grand minimums and maximums

The Bray cycle appears to be closely tied to tight clusters of grand solar maxima and minima. The Little Ice Age Wolf, Spörer, Maunder and Dalton grand minima are the best example of a solar grand minima cluster and they fall in a Bray low. The Greek Dark Age and the Homer grand minimum also fall in a Bray low. Significant historical events that fall in Bray lows are labeled in figure 2. A more complete picture of these events can be found here. The Little Ice Age (LIA) is a well-known cold period filled with plagues and suffering due to cold, for more details see here and in Dr. Wolfgang Behringer’s excellent book. The period labelled “GDA” is the Greek Dark Ages, during this Bray low the Late Bronze Age ended and after a period of civilization collapse, the Early Iron Age started. The “Uruk” Bray low event corresponds with the expansion of the Uruk civilization and the growth of some of the world’s first cities. Near the end of the Uruk Bray low, the Middle East transitions from the Copper Age to the Early Bronze Age and cuneiform writing appears.

I also found the comments on this essay by Andy May and Javier very interest and worth your time to review. It is clear we have multiple solar cycles creating a complex mix of overlapping cycles, where the sum of the influence waxes and wains over time. We live in a complex universe.

When is a polar vortex not a polar vortex?  When most of the major news stations have changed their terminology to "Arctic Air".

A few years ago - as I sit here with rain literally pouring for days - we would have been getting reports of flooding in Southern California - flood warnings out - and so forth.  What happened on top of it mainstream and the weather?

http://www.newsdeeply.com/arctic/articles/2017/01/03/the-polar-vortex-is-back-and-a-warmer-arctic-may-be-to-blame" rel="nofollow - https://www.newsdeeply.com/arctic/articles/2017/01/03/the-polar-vortex-is-back-and-a-warmer-arctic-may-be-to-blame

Those melting ice caps and diluting Gulf Stream is starting to really effect things.

You can blame the dreaded “polar vortex,” a term popularized in early 2014, when http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/polar-vortex-freeze-is-back-for-central-atlantic-canada-1.2504680" rel="nofollow - record low temperatures descended across Canada and the United States.

What’s less clear is whether the polar vortex is changing because of a warming Arctic – and whether North Americans are going to have to get used to those frigid winter temperatures.

“There’s a lot of things we’re realizing now have never happened before,” said Jennifer Francis, a research professor in the Department of Marine and Coastal Sciences at Rutgers University.

comment: Yes, last year or a ways back it wasn't politically incorrect to talk about global warming or a possible ice age coming. Perhaps it isn't the factories and humans causing the climate change - but we are seeing one.

If the theories concerning the Jet stream and the currents prove true - we could be in for 30 years of really cold weather in the U.S.

It would appear we are on the verge of the Ice Age I have been posting about. Some are saying the incredible period we are entering is due to polar axis shift i.e. Linda Howe who was in one of my books - a film producer and researcher.

We have never rain like this in California since I was a child and it would literally pour rain for weeks. We are entering another storm which could bring yet another foot of rain to us with many floods.

We are getting polar vortexes which are not even being called that and serious cold throughout the midwest.

Are we about to have at least a mini-ice-age in the U.S. and Europe?  Add to that a series of quakes and tectonic plate shifts.

http://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/699681/FREAK-climate-changes-spark-min-ice-age-Britain-2017" rel="nofollow - http://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/699681/FREAK-climate-changes-spark-min-ice-age-Britain-2017

A “triple whammy” of unlikely weather surprises could cause temperatures to plummet from next year.

Experts believe the UK could be in for a big freeze within the next few years as three major forms of climate change trigger "substantial cooling”.

Drastic changes in ocean conditions, greenhouse gases and a weakening of the sun threaten increasingly worsening winters of blistering blizzards and severe snowstorms for years to come.

Dramatic climate changes and "hasty policies" to handle them could mean "rolling blackouts" in the UK over the next few years.

These "worse case scenario" climate would hit the elderly hardest, leaving "some pensioners alone in the dark" on a freezing nights resigned to a "lonely death".

Scientists recently warned the sun's activity is at its lowest for 100 years and some have even drawn parallels with the period when the last mini ice age hit.

Thanks, Med!  I've studied climate chemistry since 1979, let me give you a few thoughts:

a) it is undeniable from records collected worldwide that the earth is warming, not cooling.  Each year is warmer than the last.

b) the effect of warming of the earth is primarily higher rates of evaporation, and more moisture held in the atmosphere (warm air holds more moisture than cold air, which is why a bathroom is steamy during a shower).  What goes up must come down, so the immediate impact of global warming is increased rainfall and storms.

c) It is true that the sun is in a "solar minimum" spell, which has happened in the past - the Maunder Minimum period, which corresponds to the "little ice age" when the River Thames would freeze over!  However, it does not appear that any cooling from the minimum is enough to counteract the warming from greenhouse gases.

The Arctic region is warming more quickly than other parts of the globe, so the "polar vortex" circulation patterns are being disrupted, bringing severe winter weather to many regions not accustomed to snow, freezing rain etc.  We are seeing that in spades this winter.

The heavy rains in California are also a symptom of global warming, and while this may seem like good news in the drought period, it may have little effect on the long-term effects of the drought.

Climate is very complicated, we are trying to project the behavior of a huge, complex planetary system.  Generally, I think the scientists are correct in that our ongoing warming will predominate, although there are regional changes that confuse people.  Climate is not weather, it is measure in decades to hundreds and thousands of years.

If you put a kettle on the stove and put a drop of color into the water you will see the color move.  The hotter the water gets, the faster the color moves.  As the heat drives currents until the overall temperature is the same everywhere in the kettle.

The same thing happens on the Earth's surface only on a much grander scale and over a longer period of time.  The upshot of this is that some parts get MUCH hotter and some get temporarily colder but this is transient.  Overall the trend is up.

The climate scientists take an average of temperatures over all of the Earth's surface to judge how hot it is getting, not just a few local, EASILY EXPLAINABLE, anomalies.

This was not bullsh't, FluMom, just the culmination of very complex science.

For those who want to read the article it is here:     http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2017/06/13/delingpole-ship-of-fools-iii-global-warming-study-cancelled-because-of-unprecedented-ice/" rel="nofollow - http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2017/06/13/delingpole-ship-of-fools-iii-global-warming-study-cancelled-because-of-unprecedented-ice/   but remember, a small cold-spot does not mean that the whole thing is colder.
