Hand, foot, and mouth disease confirmed in area

Cases of hand, foot, and mouth disease have been confirmed in the North Battleford area.
Parents of children attending local daycares and schools have
confirmed local cases. Outbreaks of the disease usually happen during
the summer and the fall, and are usually not severe.
Darren Erbach, pharmacist at Fisher’s Drug Store, told battlefordsNOW about the signs and symptoms of the disease.
“It’s common in younger children, usually a rash on hands and feet
and sometimes sores in the mouth,” Erbach said. “Symptoms include a
fever or a sore throat and just a general feeling of not being well.
There can be blisters on the tongue ... Red rash which is sometimes
itchy sometimes not, and they’re just sick and don’t want to eat and a
little bit irritable.”
The disease is very contagious, Erbach said, which is why it’s so
common for young children to get it. It is painful, but if the correct
steps are followed it can be prevented.
“Wash hands, making sure you’re disinfecting areas,” Erbach said.
“Good hygiene, and if they have it make sure they're isolated and not in
daycare or where it can spread.”
Erbach advised residents to call their doctor if any symptoms come up. Source: https://battlefordsnow.com/article/611752/hand-foot-and-mouth-disease-confirmed-area" rel="nofollow - https://battlefordsnow.com/article/611752/hand-foot-and-mouth-disease-confirmed-area
