When I came into work today a friend told me to look at the front of our Observer-Reporter newspaper. "Sales of defenses up" bird flu frenzy affects orders at Eighty Four supply company. It says that after Oprah's show their web site, www.gallawaysafety.com was shut down, overwhelmed by the volume of hits seeking common disposable industrial respirators. They said it was a nationwide Internet search by her viewers. They said as the show aired in different parts of the country the orders came in waves. |

Well the general public is finally starting to listen..I wonder if this was the type of reaction the shows produres wanted to see....Now this is phase one is progress...lets see how food sales go.. I think most people want to avoid the avain flu and are going to try and still live their lives as normal as possible.. If I wear my mask I will be safe at my son,s hockey practice..or I will still be able to go to work..and I think that is what the show intended..was for the public to still go on with there lives..but if you read between the lines..the poor again will suffer, how can they afford the masks or these disposable respirators... I kept wondering over and over agaon why Oprah kept metioning Katrina...now I think I see, not just because of the levee,s, but because it was the poor that suffered the most..they had no way of leaving and no extra supplies... |

The only thing about wearing the masks is you have to throw it away after each use. Even Dr. O. said he didn't have enough on hand. How can a person buy so many masks? I bought 2 pkgs.(2 maks in each package) at Home Depot on Sunday at $4.95 a pack. That is a lot of money. |

Angel, go google CFR-1 respirator (im tired of going to find the link I've posted a dozen times). You'll get much more bang for your buck and they seal on your face, which actually makes them useful in the case of protecting against the flu.

I'm going to be experimenting with recycling the masks. I'll spray some with lysol, wash a couple, put one in the pressure cooker (makeshift autoclave) to see how it stands up. This will not be a primary strategy, only a backup if we run out of masks.
