This explains some things:

"The findings could help identify how flu is transmitted from human to human and predict which viruses are most likely to spark pandemics".

So what good does it do to know where it develops. Can we rinse with Listerine when we get home will that kill it on the soft pallet? Tell me information that will help me press!

I dunno. But it explains why the roof of my mouth frequently seems to get sore before I begin to otherwise feel ill. I would say listerine may help if you use it several times a day but I'm not sure based on this article that the flu virus doesn't also enter into our lungs regardless. I'm sure there will be more info about this coming out and if it involves major changes about how flu is initially contracted then that is useable news.

I would think a simple poll could answer the question;
1. Do you use mouth wash?
2. How many times a day?
3. When is the last time you had the flu?
Buy more ammo!

In my own person experience when I have had severe respiratory infections... they usually start on my soft pallet.

So if we have an infection that starts there...   Can we use that as a diagnostic tool, and just assume flu?   Or do many other common pathogens also get their start at the same place?

Lemon juice and honey - many viruses, especially coronaviruses, are ph intolerant.  Those anti-viral tissues are impregnated with citric acid, a component of lemon juice.

Good point, Techno, and those things are all cheaper than mouthwash.
