Turn on CNN now! they seem to have an a;arm go off in the Russel Bldg.  Said it could possibly be some sort of chemical or nerve agent!

Im in the UK so our TV coerage may not be as detailed as current US coverage, but it seems a nerve agent detector went off, triggering an alert. Senators moved to the underground carpark and locked in for hours, but subsequent tests so far suggest it is a false alarm, and humans on the scene are not experiencing symptoms.

Seems that some sort of alarm went off at the Russel Building that has all of the Senators offices in them...8 Senators and approx 200 staff were and are there at the time relocated to a safe-zone in the underground parking lot. There is a Tent put up there for some sort of possible treatment center. First test came back positive for a "nerve agent" second test came back inconclusive. They are waiting right now for the third test. But they are also agreeing that if this is biological that it will take 3 days for any symptoms to show. Pray that this is not some new weapon released from AL Queda...they said that they would do it and strike the heartland...these Senators come from all over the US. If infected with Biological agent or virus of some sort and they are released too soon, God only knows what will happen!

Me too but that article that was printed week before last in the Sunday Times Magazine haunts me..I.e. that anyone terrorist with $100,00 could re-create the  BF virus and with a little tweaking use it. Think of the possibilities right now.  You have 8 Senators that represent states literally from coast to coast; H2H incubation is from 3-17 days, after this type of alarm, they go home to their respective states and families via the Airways. Get the picture? Why jeopardize their own men...then again maybe they did...but let the true bullet be our own truly elected officials? Alarmist? maybe..don't trust Al Queda?...you bet your life on it, they have never lied about what they are going to do!

We are truly slaves to fear if we allow the war on terror and the bird flu stuff to overlap in our minds too much.

Apart from logistical & scientific factors that would make influenza a poor choice for Al Q to use, theres also the fact it will spread around the world, killing people even more indescriminately than any terrorist attack could.

Anyway the all clear is sounded on this current even because the alarm was for a nerve agent, not a biological agent, no eed to wait 3 days for the all-clear (dunno if things ever actually take 3 days)

You can rule out bird flu in this instance because it wouldnt hae set off an alarm, oh if only we could have alarms for flu!

While you make seem to take this lightly it could be some other virus or agent that was released also. What could have triggered the alram was the propellant used to diffuse this agent into the air system. Of course it would be a short term propellant thereby the 2 different readings. But this would definitely be a heads up to anyone who is aware of the implications to be on the alert to such possibilities!  But if it was biological and they have now released all those in the safe zone?  Think of the implications of the spread!

Im not taking it lightly, Im trying to walk the fine line between sensible caution and panic. Life can be seen as one long risk-assessment, go wrong in either direction and similar harm will result.

Whatever happened to the idea that the terrorists are achieving results if people change their lives & thoughts too much as a result of terrorist acts?

If you think Im being complacent then you could put it down to me being in the UK not the USA, but it was one of your presidents that said stuff about nothing to fear but fear itself wasnt it?

I'm not panicing...only trying to get everyone to see the dots and connect them! We are all connected on this small planet of ours. What may happen here could happen there also. I am not saying OMG! time now to just shot yourself...I am saying be aware of what may be going on and the results. Just like all of Our citizens that chose to go celebrate the lunar new year over in the far east. These choices have possible implications and consequences that may not ultimately be to our liking or "best" intrests.

I dont blame you for that :)

I just hope that we can sometimes celebrate good news, as there is surely enough bad news around.

So for me this means saying 'yippee' whenever it turns out that something is a false alarm, whether it be terrorist or flu related.
