Let us know how this works out. I planted vegetables in our empty flower beds in the backyard this year and in containers on the back porch.

I have an 85 foot by 3 foot garden and I kind of square foot garden. I use my space very wisely. It is a raised bed 12 inches high against my fence with a brick front.

I grow 5 tomato plants which gives me lots fresh tomatoes. I dry what I cannot eat, vacuum pack and put them in the freezer so they will really last. In the fall I have lots of green tomatoes and I make a green tomato relish with these and I can usually 12 pints which lasts for more than one year.

I grow zucchini (freeze it for bread), lettuce onions, herbs, garlic (which I have never gotten to grow), cucumbers, green beans (dry these), snow peas (freeze these also). I only grow what my family will eat. I grew potatoes a few years ago but they take up lots of room and I did not get that many potatoes for the space.

Carrots have not grown well for me either but I may try them again this year.

It feels great to have a garden so go for it Levygoddess!

Having a garden is great I have a 25x50 garden ...this year I put out 40 tomato plants mostly roma thought I was going to lose some but they snapped out of their funk.....12 sweet peppers, went crazy with onions they had them 25 cents a bundle (Texas1015's mmmm good) to get rid of them so I bought $3. worth plus some others that about 400 onions my kids love them....9 cabbage...and potatoes...we're got 1 4x4 box and 2 3x8 boxes we haven't gotten planted yet..beets,green beans and other beans, carrots, zucchini, yellow squash, between canning freezing and drying it will keep me busy.....but it nice to out and pick something for supper...and the winter tomato juice..etc
hope all who have gardens have a bountiful harvest......
