Well, I can tell you that you must be ready to put out a fire at your home if TSJHTF.   The fire dept in St. Louis is not fighting any of the fires in Ferguson, MO because shots are being fired at the firemen. So you can figure that when TSHTF you better have a firefighting plan to save your house and your preps!!

I have the roof sprinklers for forrest fires but not sure that will work. Any firefighters out there to give us suggestions?

I suppose that the vast majority of the people who engaged in these behaviors live in the Ferguson area. I have also heard that there were "visitors" from around the country who came to stir up trouble. I suspect that they were smart enough to get the crowd worked up then stand back and avoid arrests themselves. This last group are the race baiters and they are perhaps the single worst domestic problem our country has. Racial tensions are high in the States and mis-perceptions about the causes of black unemployment, welfare, arrests, suspensions in school, and teen pregnancy rates, are being driven by these mis-perceptions. Read any article online about any of the topics above and you will find some statement like: " blacks make up only x% of the population but account for Y% of the topic at hand." The conclusions the authors want you to come away with is that there is vast discrimination in this country. I have done some research on these topics and I fail to find enough evidence that discrimination is the primary cause.

Those 80 people who got arrested in Ferguson will pay a consequence for their decision to riot, vandalize, steal, loot and assault. It will cost them a lot in terms of having a criminal record, losing time off work if not actually loosing a job, not getting a job in the future, court costs, not to mention the costs their families will pay too. Does anyone think it does not hurt families when 58% of young black men are in jail?

Well I have lived long enough to start drawing some educated  conclusions. Generally we live in a post discriminatory country. There are still battles to be won but the war is for all practical purposes over. Except that we have a whole population of people who didn't get the memo. And the message starts early. Black children account for 18% of preschoolers but almost half of the preschoolers suspended more than once are black. No, this is not because white preschool teachers have it out for cute innocent black 4 year olds. This is cultural. When the teen pregnancy rate for blacks is three times the teen pregnancy rate for whites there are going to be consequences for 13 year old girls trying to raise children without a supportive husband and those consequences are going to hit blacks harder.

They are shooting themselves in the foot when they engage in activities like in Ferguson. The rest of the population that has low rates of suspensions, low rates of incarceration, low rates of crime, high rates of employment, and doesn't riot in the streets either when they don't like a jury decision or when a sports team wins or just because they invented the "knock out game" looks at what is happening and they have trouble not coming to the conclusion that it is black culture that is to blame. Then because they are fair minded and don't want to engage in discrimination set those thoughts aside. Newsflash - white people did not make black woman have 73% of their children outside of marriage.

The next time you look at the news and are inclined to set aside some thought you fear is pre-judiced (which comes from the two words "before" and "thought") maybe what is needed is to actually do some research to see if the thought is formed before gathering evidence and perhaps with bias or if maybe the thought was formed after gathering evidence and with reasonable cause. Did you lump a whole group of people into a generalization? Probably not a good idea. But if instead you noticed huge gaps between one group and another you might stop to think that the gap is not caused by discrimination but is in fact caused by real differences in behavior related not to skin color but to culture.

When a study shows that LaShawnee or Ezequel is less likely to get a call back from her resume than Betty or Ezekiel I believe that does measure discrimination against a culture. But when I look at the statistics for virtually every gap in every social problem this country has an employer would be crazy to invite someone foolish enough to keep the culturally charged name LaShawnee on their resume rather than a less charged psudonym. Am I guilty of saying that some people should change their culture and being insensitive to that culture? Yes. But it is that culture that is causing some people to have double the unemployment rate of the rest of the people. Hiding the cause of real problems behind claims of discrimination harms these people far more than insensitivity.

So to keep this on topic: when you are preparing for whatever may happen in the future be aware that world wide and not just in the U.S and not just in "white" countries, any neighborhood that has a higher population of black people has more crime. And the thing for you to do about it is to not live in those neighborhoods. You are far less likely to encounter rioting if you live in a white neighborhood. I wish facts were not facts and that racial difference did not exist but I would be hiding my head in the sand if I did not acknowledge it.

ABS my comment had nothing to do with race relations!! All I was trying to make a point that in bad times no one will be there to stop a fire at your home. Dang, people need to read the message.

I live in an area that is usually listed as a high fire danger every year.  We have plants around the house that don't burn easily, trees away from the roof, etc.  Make sure you have hoses in good working order connected at all times that are long enough to reach the house.  If you can, make sure at least two of the hoses are connected AWAY from the house since you might not have access to the ones attached to the house itself.  There is roof fire retardant that can be applied to help minimize the danger of the house next door (if they are close enough) causing a fire for you.

In the case of a scenario of like what is happening in Ferguson, if you see a crowd in your neighborhood coming towards your property with Molotov cocktails,  you need to be prepared to keep them away.  Standing out front with a shotgun is a good deterrent.  Just look at the news reports of the people standing out front of the tattoo parlor in one of the harder hit areas.  You can tell they mean business.  Surprise, surprise, no one messed with THAT store.
But the souls of the righteous are in the hand of the Lord

Hi ParanoidMom,   I live in fire country also. I purchased a fire "suppression" unit for my roof. It sprays 80 freet totally around my roof and my house area.   I am not home or I could tell you the company.   When I saw all the houses in Colorado Springs go up in an area similar to mine I got busy. I have only 2 trees that I would have to saw down next to my house and I could do it with help from my son.

If TSHTF I am planning to board up my house and then paint it to look like I had a fire with black, grey and brown spary paint. I hope that will make me look like a burned out shell. But you have to be ready for fire from the bad guys with guns first, talk later.

I have to admit that (molotov cocktails) would be an effective means to get you out of the house.  Boarding up the windows would help keep them from getting one inside but how would you put out a fire if there were no running water... no hoses.

Land mines might send a signal far & wide... Hey this is the house to crack.  But I like the thought of that.

Maybe I'll just use one of those grocery store apple pies. You know, the ones with the half cooked, dehydrated, reconstituted limp leathery crunchy apples. With a sign on it says "You can have this one. Really."

My house is 100% stone, brick and cement tile roof. It'll burn but not easily. And only after you make it past my neighbors...

The only thing accomplished with the Ferguson, " protest" is more gun sales and prepping.  The government allowed the , "protesters" , to burn and scare the public.  I can not belive everybody in Ferguson wanted their corner or the world destroyed.  This kind of behavior tells the world we are a doormat, come on in and kick us in the arse.

Big smile  That doesn't surprise me, like I said their is a bunch of people who didn't want the town destroyed.  I'm glad that the decent people are stepping up, too bad we don't hear more about the good deeds.  Thanks for the info.

Final Lesson: If the press would leave St. Louis/Ferguson there would be peace. But as long as these people get press they will burn and loot what they can.
