Carbon, just read Earth Abides a month or so ago --great book! One of those books that has the potential to provoke a lot of thought and discussion. A very inexpensive version is available via Kindle. Lucifer's Hammer looks interesting; I may be checking it out as well -- thanks.

Want to know what is going to happen in the future?  Read the only book that has accurately predicted the future (prophecy), it is called the Bible.  The prophet Isaiah named Cyrus 200 years before he was born and stated the manner in which he would capture Babalyon.

Isaiah 45King James Version (KJV)

45 Thus saith the Lord to his anointed, to Cyrus, whose right hand I have holden, to subdue nations before him; and I will loose the loins of kings, to open before him the two leaved gates; and the gates shall not be shut;

I will go before thee, and make the crooked places straight: I will break in pieces the gates of brass, and cut in sunder the bars of iron:

And I will give thee the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places, that thou mayest know that I, the Lord, which call thee by thy name, am the God of Israel.

For Jacob my servant's sake, and Israel mine elect, I have even called thee by thy name: I have surnamed thee, though thou hast not known me.

There are prophecies in Daniel. Mathew and Revelation that will, if discerned from the Bible and not man, explain what and when the end of this world will be.

Jesus Christ died and was raised on the third day, the only "God" to overcome death.
