BBC NEWS
The UN's World Health Organization has raised the alert over the spread of swine flu to level five - one short of a full-blown pandemic.
A phase five alert means human-to-human transmission in at least two countries. .............

yes... I guess they feel it will not help a lot, but I hear they will be closing schools if one person is confirmed....that's the suggestion from CDC.
They are talking about what will they do in the fall...and what will happen with this flu in the southern Hemisphere this summer....
watching now...
will it fizzle out or will it come back stronger?...can't be sure yet....trouble with his mike...

Pandemic Declaration Said Imminent as Swine Flu Cases Spread
By Naomi Kresge and Dermot Doherty April 29 (Bloomberg) -- The World Health Organization said it may soon formally declare the first pandemic in 41 years as a swine flu outbreak spread to eight nations and 11 U.S. states, according to a person familiar with the decision. WHO’s Director-General Margaret Chan raised the agency’s six-phase pandemic alert to 5 from 4, the second jump in three days, the person said. Level 5 means a pandemic, or a global outbreak of a new virus, is imminent. WHO and other health authorities have begun developing a vaccine against the disease, linked to 159 deaths in Mexico and 1 in the U.S. More than 100 swine-flu cases have been confirmed in North America, Europe and the Pacific, and the virus will probably spread, Keiji Fukuda, WHO assistant director-general for health security and environment, said today in a conference call with reporters. “We have been preparing all along as if this is going to stage 6,” Janet Napolitano, U.S. Homeland Security secretary, said at a news conference in Washington earlier today. “Our preparations are for a situation in which this does become a full-fledged pandemic.” To contact the reporter on this story: Jason Gale in Singapore at j.gale@bloomberg.net Last Updated: April 29, 2009 16:05 EDT |

ok it is almost pandemic. now one question: how mortal is this virus ? (cases / deaths) ? so far only 7 confirmed. it is a good or a bad sign ? . i think is too soon to say it. so" prepare for worst and hope for the best " |

Iowa on CNN....talking about how they may in the future have to ask people to limit their exposure and notattend large gatherings...at what point?....people are volunteering to isolate themselves, people have been cooperative.
What types of large gatherings will you cancel ?..... danced around it.... (I'm thinking...the Stae Fairs ?)
No more tracking contacts...
mild illness...about 7-10 days. (want people to stay at home even if they think they can make it to work...they say don't go to work...)

It's somewhat mild at the moment, but wait until fall, "flu season". Everything will be fine for the next 90 days.

so far it is mild. They say they can't tell yet how bad it will be...if it gets worse in the Southern Hemisphere...they are watching closely...my own opinion is they may not have kids go back to school in the fall. They did say to plan for it. Kids go back (college also) in
Aug.-Sept. and it's no shock that the fatalities were mostly in October. No large gathering in the summer is what they are saying in some states.
