Bird flu confirmed in two villages outside of Diyarbakir
Bird flu continues to spread in Turkey's southeastern provinces, with two villages near Diyarbakir having positive confirmation of the deadly virus. Following the laboratory confirmation, 340 winged poultry animals in the two villages were destroyed. The tests on the poultry suspected of having bird flu were done following suspicious deaths of animals in the two villages of Kocalar and Akoba. Residents of the villages have also been put under immediate quarantine. Authorities say that all necessary precautions have been taken, and that crews are busy trying to disinfect the villages. Meanwhile, another case of suspected bird flu has occured outside the city of Konya, where a man who caught a duck and ate it at home with his children went to the hospital with a high fever and symptoms resembling bird flu. Test results have not yet however confirmed this case. |
