[Technophobe: The title of this piece says North Tyneside hospital, but it lists several others affected at the end. So all those are under restriction and in danger of keeping North Tyneside company]
North Tyneside General hospital locked down after flu outbreak - here's everything we know so far Visits have been suspended to deal with an outbreak at the Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation trust hospital - but it doesn't apply to patients receiving end-of-life care. BySean Seddon 12:03, 29 JAN 2019 News North Tyneside Hospital is on lockdown after a flu outbreak. All inpatient wards have been closed to visitors since Monday in a bid to prevent the virus spreading. But hospital bosses have stressed visits are still allowed for patients receiving end-of-life or palliative care. A ward at North Tyneside General and another at Wansbeck General Hospital were closed on January 18 but now more drastic action has been taken at Rake Lane site. A statement on Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust reads: "We know not being able to visit your loved ones when they are unwell is difficult and are doing everything we can to allow as much access as is safe." Restrictions are already in place at all nine of the trust's hospitals to prevent norovirus spreading. The trust experienced a serious outbreak of the serious vomiting bug in 2017 after someone brought shellfish - which is known to carry the illness - on to a ward . Earlier this month, interim director of nursing Marion Dickson warned the flu outbreak would likely "get worse before it gets better". Wards at North Tyneside will be closed "until further notice". Full list of restrictions already in place: No (visiting) children under 12 at any time Visiting is restricted on all inpatient wards (at all sites) to between 14:00 – 15:00 and 18:30 – 19:30.
