https://syria.liveuamap.com/en/2018/14-april-unconfirmed-reports-from-hezbollah-sources-that DJ Russia and Iran, Hezbollah did plan how to react on a western major act of war. Israel will have to pay for attacking the T4 airbase in Syria-killing 7 Iranians, 5 Syrians- Russians also at that base were not informed of coming attack. http://thesaker.is/the-us-message-to-the-word-bow-down-and-worship-me/(DJ-That message is unacceptable for China as well-escalation will come from extreme acts of smaller groups-splinters of Hezbollah, or a reaction from Israel going wrong-Hamas bombing Israel from Gaza-Israel is one of many explosive issues around the globe, Ukraine, Yemen, Kashmir etc.-all will show reaction.)

Are we in "World War 3"? Most likely-yes-after the reactions of Russia and Iran.

How this will unfold is very unclear and unpredictable.

Best scenario:

Limited reaction from Russia and Iran-causing very limited counter reaction.

More likely; Israel, Saudi Arabia will be at war with Iran-Us with Russia, Turkey ???

China may want to stay out as long as possible or go for their own targets. Will Russia react in the Ukraine ?

Internet will get blocked soon-censorship and totalitarian measures the norm-also in "the west".

DJ-All of the people at this forum-best wishes-stay safe and help others were you can.

DJ; Some remarks a.o. based on https://www.defconwarningsystem.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=11935&start=110

-Russia was not hit in Syria, Hizbollah (and Iran?) was hit

-Most likely very limited Russian air defense was used (otherwise waves of anti missile-missiles in stead of single Surface-Air-Missiles)

-Syria claimed it did shoot down at least 13 missiles, most targets that were hit were empty (Still a.o. Damascus Int. Airport destroyed)

-The "west" used double the amount of missiles it used april 2017

-Russia has to react-not only to the western insults also for ignoring Russian warnings

-The western attacks came before the OPCW could start investigating Douma, also the claim by the west is they attacked chemical weapons depots and laboratories the OPCW claims Syria gave up in 2017.

There will be a damage assesment made in Syria, by the west via satellite, high altitude recognition, info from the ground. Syria, Russia, Iran, Hezbollah will make their estimates.

So far very limited increase of activity from western sponsored terrorists in Syria. But that may come-some air bases in Syria are out of use-Syria/Russia may need more time to target terrorist activities.

Most likely pre-planned scenario will be used-Israel attack on T4 airbase for Russia and Iran was part of western attack. Iran will react against Israel, Russia against west.

Turkey and Cyprus had a conflict on gasfields. Since UK started its agression from Greek-speaking part of Cyprus, Turkey wants the gasfields-increase of tensions in Cyprus.

Lebanon protested against Israeli violations of Lebanese air space a long time. Maybe Russia/Hezbollah air defense in Lebanon ?

The acts of war will not go very well in the west. Both in France and UK much protest to be expected. The "west" did start this war without any parlement aproval. Also Trump, May and Macron are involved in "domestic issues" pushing them to distract the attention by starting a war-will not be accepted.

The western media shows itself even more unreliable than RT, Sputnik or Press-TV, "alternative internet media" may give a more realistic picture-but a lot of propaganda will be spread. http://theduran.com/sky-news-cuts-off-segment-of-fmr-head-of-british-military-forces-for-questioning-narrative-on-syria-chemical-attack/ Western "democracies" will get more totalitarian-more state of emergency, police state like. In this way this attack is also against civil liberties in the west by a corrupt "political" elite.

DJ-I do not agree with all of this-Russia has been ignored by the west-and insulted. Hezbollah targets were hit. Most likely the attacks/war is far from over.

http://www.moonofalabama.org/2018/04/syria-manipulated-videos-fail-to-launch-world-war-iii.html-update:

[Update April 14, 5:00 UCT]

Last night the U.S., UK and France launched a symbolic attack on Syria. It was not intended to hurt the Syrian government, its people or its allies. It did not hit any of Syria's allies. So far there is no report of anyone being killed or wounded.

The only purpose of the attack was to do 'something' and to somewhat calm down the warmongers within those three countries. It was probably insufficient for that.

As we wrote yesterday in the piece below. World War III has been called off.

A report from an observer on the ground in Syria:

Elijah J. Magnier @ejmalrai - 4:22 UTC - 14 Apr 2018

Wow:
#USA #France #UK: 3 countries to bomb 3 #Syria/n objectives in #Homs #Damascus? A centre of research, a Control & command and an ammunition warehouse? And before the OPCW investigation expected today?

A say In ME: Huge mountains moving to give a birth to a small mouse!<
-
No "Political hits: (Presidential Palace or gov or security HQ)
No #Iranian objectives hits
No #Hezbollah objectives hit
No Syrian Army key capabilities hit.#
And of course no #Russian deployment w/ #SAA hit
#USA looks weaker than ever with this "strike".
-
The giants trio hit (#USA #UK #France) fired from US base in #Qatar is celebrated in #Damascus government controlled area with #Russian #Iranian #Syrian and #Hezbollah flags, dancing and mocking @realRonaldTrump's strike
-
This is the 1st time in history where a capital, #Damascus, is hit by foreign power and people celebrate it in the street few hours later, challenging the attackers and expressing their solidarity with the government by dancing in the street: #USA #UK #France boosted #Assad today<
-
#USA #UK #France targeted empty objectives in #Syria since the entire #SAA was dislocated. @realDonaldTrump wanted to save his image: the Syria people's reaction (1000s in the street expressing solidarity with Assad) to the hit is seriously damaging him.

To limit the attack to the absolute minimum was a wise decision by U.S. President Donald Trump. The people who had faked the 'chemical attack' in Douma on April 7 wanted to pull the U.S. into a wider war with Syria and Russia. They failed. Secretary of Defense Mattis saved the situation when he publicly doubted the evidence and held Trump back from a spontaneous 'revenge' response. Netanyahoo will be furious and the neocons will try to kick Mattis out.

https://www.veteranstoday.com/2018/04/14/was-the-us-attack-timing-on-syria-a-diversion-from-trump-legal-problems/:

Editor’s Note: Press TV caught me on short notice to do their live coverage on the US attack on Syria, a pitiful abuse of America military power. But fortunately the attack seems to have been put on for show.

The US and British planes attacked three locations, which I can assure you Damascus knew were on the list, and had been evacuated for more than a week. Dunford explained how the targets had been chosen to avoid civilian casualties.

Mattis and Dunford also replied to press pool questions about concerns about “releasing chemical weapons” via a strike, and that for example the Scientific Research Center had been chosen to destroy its equipment and files. So we are to assume that if Syria had been doing chemical weapons research, it would not have made a back up copy?

Later when pressured by the press pool to be more specific about what chemicals the brass was talking about, they slipped up and mentioned chlorine, and “maybe” sarin. They goofed.

Chlorine does not require a Scientific Research Facility to make, as it has been around a long time. VT published the captured jihadi facility story in East Ghouta, which was a bare bones operation. The US coalition seems to have not minded its jihadi allies having and using chemical weapons. Imagine that.

Dear Generals, The Syrians might have already moved their chlorine production to the jihadi facility the SAA captured in East Ghouta with US equipment, because frankly, the price was reasonable and that would be the last place you would look for it, right?

No mention was made of French planes flying, but the British Tornados were credited with the Homs area “precursors” depot. Color me suspicious, as the Tornados have the radar signature of a metal whale, so it would be difficult to get four of them through the Russian radar, even as the Syrian batteries would be shooting.

The big elephant in the room once again was what was Syria’s motive for using chemical weapons in the latest alleged attack? Neither the generals nor the press would touch that question, continuing the long marathon race not to.

My conclusion is that fortunately this attack was much to do about nothing, a fake attack about a fake gassing by three countries needing a nice diversion from their various domestic difficulties.

France has strikes rolling across the country; the British middle class is being reduced to serfdom; and Trump has a small army of lawyers handling his many problems, the latest with his personal attorney facing criminal charges.

The generals promised a more detailed briefing in the morning. They even made a parting joke before exiting, to beware the disinformation that would be coming out from the Syrian and Russians. You just can’t make this stuff up…JD ]

On the reactions in the US, UK, France etc.

DJ-I expect very serious protests in France-governments did spent 300 million US$ on a useless attack on Syria-worsening the international situation based on lies.

Most likely Russia will push Iran to "moderate" its reaction on Israel. This western act may backfire.

Attacks before the OPCW even could start doing their job, parliaments could have a say in it-is an insult against their own population.

https://www.zerohedge.com/news/2018-04-13/boeing-faces-backlash-russia-may-halt-titanium-exports-plane-maker, more energy deals outside the petro-$, closer cooperation between Russia, China, Iran.

I am also interested in reaction from (most) Muslim countries on another western attack on a Muslim nation.

The attacks mostly come from ships in the Mediterranean- and Red-sea, RAF operated from Cyprus (France and US from Jordan ?) US B1-B from Qatar. (Turkey http://www.hurriyetdailynews.com/us-france-britain-launch-strikes-on-syria-130298: Attacks were in proportion. Still Turkey needs to cooperate with Russia and Iran)

Russia was informed (by France ???) of coming attack-some Russian BUK-missiles used.

https://southfront.org/pr-event-or-failure-syrian-general-command-reports-only-minor-damage-as-result-of-us-led-strikes/,

DJ-Maybe part of it is propaganda-still it looks more like a (very expensive) "symbolic" action than a real attack. Most damage is done to Russian "pride and prestige".

DJ-Russia did seperate several conflicts in Syria, some of the conflicts-with IS, alquada etc-Russia, Putin, did want to get involved-others it stayed out (Turkey-Kurds) or tried to mediate (Israel-Iran).

So the Russian reaction will be different on different fronts.
-For western Europe, US try to get more public support
-So no open large scale military actions but covert operations in "war-zones" ;
Syria more pushing against US being in eastern Syria
  Ukraine more support for seperatists
-Trying to break up NATO, Turkey, Greece, some Balkan-countries (Bulgaria, Hungary, Romania) may be interested in more EurAsian (military) cooperation
-Yemen may get more in the news-the "west" is making a Saudi-led genocide a reality there.
-China most likely is "not happy"with western actions, sees them as a risk for the New Silk Road.
-Also Muslim nations (Pakistan, Indonesia) may consider it another western attack on a Muslim nation.
Outcome may be the "west" is getting more isolated.

In Syria the war will go on-large chance "rebels" will claim several chemical attacks per day-will the "west" than attack again ? The "western" action most likely did not solve anything only made things a lot worse-not for the material but for the political damage they are doing.
(The Iran-deal will most likely be a next target-eventhough for now there are no reports of an Iran confrontation with the US-Saudi-Israel coalition https://www.almasdarnews.com/article/saudi-army-suffers-heavy-losses-after-houthi-forces-launch-daredevil-attack-photos/ this may only be a matter of time.)

https://southfront.org/decisive-failure-of-us-forces/

DJ-Although the US/NATO claim otherwise this southfront story may reflect reality more that the official succes-claim.

Early on April 14, the US, France and the UK carried out a massive missile strike on Syria justifying their actions with the alleged involvement of the Assad government into the April 7 Douma “chemical attack”.

The Russian Defense Minsitry stated that 103 cruise and air-to-surface missiles were launched on different targets across Syria adding that 71 of them were intercepted by the Syrian Air Defense Forces (SADF).

“According to available information, a total of 103 cruise missiles were fired… The Syrian air defense systems basically comprising Soviet-made weapons successfully repelled the strikes by aircraft and naval ships. A total of 71 missiles were intercepted,” Head of the Russian General Staff’s Main Operations Department Colonel-General Sergei Rudskoi said.

Rudskoi said that the SADF had used its S-125, S-200, Buk, Kvadrat and Osa air defense systems to repel the strike.

The Syrian General Command said that the US, the UK and France had launched 110 missiles also adding that most of them were intercepted.

The numbers provided raise serious questions.

Some experts contacted by SouthFront said that even theoretically the SADF had not been capable to shoot down more than 15-20% of the launched missiles using its S-125, S-200, Buk, Kvadrat and Osa systems only. The SADF just does not have enoguh means and measures to intercept such a number of missiles simultaneously in one striking wave.

So what really happened?

The experts suggested that the Russian military had possibly used its state-of-the-art electronic warfare (EW) systems to counter the launched missiles during their final phase of flight path.

The most part of the flight path, the guidance for the Tomahawk cruise missile is provided by GPS. However, in the final phase, the missile starts using its internal guidance system. During this phase of the flight path the missile is vulnerable for EW counter-measures.

The missiles impacted by EW systems start to steer off. The missiles’ speed significantly reduces and they become an easy target for air defense systems or fall.

Another factor, which “highly likely” contributed to the effectiveness of the Syrian counter-measures, is that Russia had provided the Syrian military with operational data from its technical reconnaissance net, including satellites and other surveillance means. Likely, Iran had done a similar thing. Thus, missiles launched from the Red Sea were detected immediately and were being tracked during all their flight path.

Using tracking data, Russian-made air defense systems are capable of shooting down cruise missiles with a relatively high efficiency.

In any case, the 71 intercepted missiles of 103 launched are a decisive failure for the US and its allies. No doubts, the US military leadership did not expect this scenario.

If the data provided by the Russian Defense Ministry is confirmed, this will be the first time in the history when some side was able to repel a massive strike of the so-called modern high-precision weapons/missiles. So, in a case of a nuclear exchange between the US and Russia, the Russians will be able to intercept most of the US attacking means suffering a minor damage. Russia’s nuclear strike would be a crushing blow.

So far [13:15 CET], the US has provided no comments on reports about the 71 downed missiles and has not even provided official info about the targets and weapons involved in its strike on Syria. Considering that the administration of US President Donald Trump likes “PR moves”, such a stance may be described as an idication that something “went wrong”.

UPDATE: The Pentagon provided own version of events by saying that all the missiles “successfully hit every target”.

UK

Syria

The bottom line: An attack was launched, it hit SOME targets and not others.  The US, UK and French High tech weaponry is not nearly as effective as we all thought when confronted even by very old Soviet technology.

The world is no safer today than it was yesterday, but relations are ruined, the rule of law is smashed and we have not heard the end of these troubles.

The USA has attacked an adversary with known chemical weapons capabilities....I cannot think of another instance of this in history.

Iraq, Libya etc. either did not have chem weapons programs, or relinquished them.

Don't be surprised if smuggled Syrian nerve agents are turned against citizens of US, France or UK.   The use of Russian "Novichok" agent in the UK may have been a test of the system (to gauge response times, assets deployed etc.)

Just saying.

CRS, DrPH the Moon of Alabama has a good headline describing the present situation.

France, UK, US (=F.U.K.U.S.) did use over a 100 missiles, worth 300 million US$, to try to destroy empty buildings and airfields. Even pro-opposition groups claim 60/70% of those missiles missed their targets. The OPCW did already claim Syria has no (real) chemical weapons-if there is any doubt Syria has to accept further inspections...http://www.moonofalabama.org/2018/04/fukus-strikes-syria-who-won.html
(In the comments lot of good discussion on the Skripal-BZ poison case)

Zerohedge has a "Orwell-like" scenario for World War 3

World War 3

With the ascent of Russia, China, and smaller states building their armed forces without reason, it is only inevitable that they are used.  War between China, Russia, the US and allies is inevitable.  But wait - it's not what you are thinking!  There will not likely be strikes on US, Chinese, or Russian soil.  Rather, as in the Hunger Games, war games will be played in theaters such as the South China Sea, Syria, and other hotspots.

World War 3 will likely last 50 - 100 years, like the cold war, it will be an going unresolved war in places like Syria.  Flare ups and skirmishes will be the extent of the action.  Nukes may be used but tactical nukes in a limited, regional capacity.  PROBABLY.  Of course, it could completely spiral out of control.  But deep analysis indicates not.  There needs to be just enough war to justify the military and not enough to destroy it.  In the same way the MIC needs a war to justify its own existence, a complete obliteration of a major player would also be an endgame (including but not limited to a humanitarian outcry if a major city was destroyed in one bombing such as London or Berlin.)

Remember folks there was only one country that has used nuclear bombs to kill millions and that country is the United States of America.

We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.

From https://www.facebook.com/pepe.escobar.77377:

“Plan A” consisted of a destructive attack on Syria to destroy its army, presidential palace, command and control bases, elite force, strategic military and ammunition warehouses, radar, defence systems and political leadership institutions.

Prior to the triple attack on Syria by the US – UK – France, intensive contacts were carried out by Russia and President Vladimir Putin himself – at around 04:00 am– to reduce the attack and go to a softer, less significant “Plan B”.

Russia, in its contact with several heads of state, rejected any hit that could cripple the Syrian Army and instructed the leadership in Damascus that the West would now think very carefully before radically changing the balance of power in the Levant.

ources in Damascus explain that the Syrian Army and its allies, supported by Russia, were carrying out a large attack on rural Idlib and had reached Abu al-Duhur airport when, all of a sudden, the military operation stopped. The entire spearhead force was moved to Ghouta. What happened?

Russia had informed the Syrian leadership of a large gathering of forces at Al-Tanf US-occupied military base on the Syrian-Iraqi borders, where tens of thousands of US proxies have received continuous military training. The Russians identified unusual military movements and understood that the US was preparing to push Syrian proxy forces to reach eastern Ghouta, linking itself with around 30,000 jihadists in Ghouta itself. This attack was planned to take place simultaneously with a diversion from Daraa, southern Syria, attacking south of Damascus so as to deceive the Syrian army and its allies into leaving smaller forces around the capital.

-

But the shifting of the military operation from rural Idlib to Ghouta spoiled the US plan to impose on Russia an enforced stay in Lattakia and Tartous confined to a limited place, and to finally change the Syrian regime. This “genius’s plan” would have spoiled all Russia’s efforts deployed through almost three years of heavy involvement in the war in Syria, and would have given the US the upper hand , just at the moment when Moscow and the Syrian Army were about to end the war, with only few more pockets left to liberate.

Russia’s hit in Ghouta broke the US plan into pieces, and imposed the withdrawal of tens of thousands of militants from Ghouta along with their families, to the north of Syria. The capital is now much safer, with the remaining area south of Damascus occupied by Al-Qaeda and the “Islamic State” group (ISIS) in Yarmouk camp and al-Hajar al-Aswad.

-

What is the next step?

All eyes are directed on the northern city of Idlib controlled by al-Qaeda now that the fate of Damascus is secured. But why Idlib?

-

Idlib remains despite the Turkish-Russian-Iranian economical and financial agreement. There is no doubt about the existence of strong differences of an economic nature between partners over Syria.

-

Thus, the compass points to Idlib, Rastan, Jisr al-Shoughour and the Syrian Army forces gathering in rural Lattakia, ready to divide Idlib after liberating the many villages around it.

This will bring the world to the next “chemical attack” appointment in the next operational theatre of the Syrian army and its allies. Would the US stand by al-Qaeda? Why not? It has never really been a question of the use of chemical weapons, since the US holds the largest stockpile of chemical weapons worldwide: the real issue is the defeat of the US faced with the dominance of Russia over the Levant.

Some internetproblems

China:

The facts cannot be distorted. This military strike was not authorized by the UN, and the strikes targeted a legal government of a UN member state. The US and its European allies launched strikes to punish President Bashar al-Assad for a suspected chemical attack in Duma last weekend. However, it has not been confirmed if the chemical weapons attack happened or if it did, whether government forces or opposition forces launched it. International organizations have not carried out any authoritative investigation.
Washington's attack on Syria where Russian troops are stationed constitute serious contempt for Russia's military capabilities and political dignity. Trump, like scolding a pupil, called on Moscow, one of the world's leading nuclear powers, to abandon its "dark path." Disturbingly, Washington seems to have become addicted to mocking Russia in this way. Russia is capable of launching a destructive retaliatory attack on the West. Russia's weak economy is plagued by Western sanctions and squeezing of its strategic space. That the West provokes Russia in such a manner is irresponsible for world peace.

The situation is still fomenting. The Trump administration said it will sustain the strikes. But how long will the military action continue and whether Russia will fight back as it claimed previously remain uncertain. Western countries continue bullying Russia but are seemingly not afraid of its possible counterattack. Their arrogance breeds risk and danger.

However, if the investigation does not find that a banned chemical was used in the Syrian Government’s bombing of that building, then incontrovertibly the U.S.-and-allied invasion was a criminal one under international laws, though there may be no international court that possesses the authority to try the case.

So: what is at stake here from the OPCW investigation is not only the international legitimacy of Syria’s Government, but the international legitimacy of the Governments that invaded it on April 13th. These are extremely high stakes, even if no court in the world will possess the authority to adjudicate the guilt — either if the U.S. and its allies lied, or if the Syrian Government lied.
