What is this? Is it Norovirus or is it something else?  This is a hard one to keep an eye on but I do know people who are very ill from this and whatever it is - it is very contagious - and making people very ill.

EUGENE, Ore. -- A local school closed Thursday due to a widespread illness. After speaking with Lane County Health officials, the school announced it will remain closed Friday, October 30.

Classes were cancelled at O'Hara Catholic School early Thursday morning. School officials notified parents by phone and text alert.

Principal Tammy Conway told parents that 14 teachers called in sick with a stomach virus.

Lane County Public Health officials now say 16 staff members are sick. There are currently no reports of ill students.

"We are actively investigating. Our first thought is norovirus," said Jason Davis, Lane County Health & Human Services Public Information Officer.

Davis said O'Hara contacted Lane County Environmental Health. Officials advised the school to remain closed on Friday. They will oversee cleaning and sanitizing efforts at the school.

yeah, we had the norovirus show up here (they don't know where it came from) and spread thru several schools very quickly.  It was just before the labor day holiday.  And then it was gone.

They weren't going to clean the schools until it hit several more then they decided to clean them while the kids were on holiday.  It did the trick.  I haven't seen any other reports on the news about it.

We've got some kind of killer cold going around here.  I've had it twice!  not fun!

One of the real questions here is are you over it?  I have talked to people who have got this again 5x in 2 months - same bug - it's all better and then boom - nausea - vomiting -misery.

I realize TPTB (the powers that be) sometimes do not take Norovirus that seriously. Anything that lasts 3 days and doesn't take out enough people isn't considered dangerous.

Now when you say "cold" then you are talking respiratory and this defies the classic definition of flu. I am hearing people on the phone coughing and with severe nausea and vomiting. Cough means lungs means airborne. It goes beyond food poisoning. What do you do with food poisoning that is contagious? Now that is a novel thought.  Someone gets sick on fish and someone who didn't eat it gets sick as well.

Is this what is happening?

It is getting colder and stormier and this Norovirus is breaking out in many places. Atlanta (doctor) said this could be the Chinese strain that got bad at the end of last winter. So ... is it food or is it something else? Have these outbreaks been linked to what people are eating.. yet?

Be interesting to find out.

yeah, the students had norovirus but the rest of us are getting a common cold virus that can be caught over and over.

It was even on the news last night about how it's spreading all over.  People want to know if it's the flu or just a cold and right now they are saying, just a cold with same symptoms of flu.  Only a handful of ppl with the actual flu so far.
