I have not done knitting since I was a young girl...I went out and bought needles and yard..and I am teaching myself again..and trying to teach my 7 year old daughter how to also.. I am reall on the hunt for an old pedal sewing machine would really come in handy, but i think with a few belts and work could take a new machine and make into one... |

I bought a pressure cooker, and I plan to learn to use it. Hoping to do some home canning this summer if we're all still out and about.

Muskrat; As a matter of fact Some of the simpler sewing machines are easily converted to treadle sewing machines. Look for those that do not use computer technology to run I.e. those that use computer to sew complex designs. You can find really good used ones at any sewing repair shop. Simply buy the treadle belts to use for the treadle sewing machine and hook the around the wheel....I did that with a singer stretch stitch and it worked wonderfully. Make sure that you have sewing machine oil for the parts. It take little time after you get to know your machine to fix the small repairs yourself! Meewee |

What I am learning... how to use a thermos cooking device and how to shoot a 60 year old rifle. I am looking at ways to cook with propane and to use dried beans and rice with spices and veggies... i learned to use a shortwave radio better and to use powdered eggs. KOMET163 |

I have a sewing basket filled with various sizes and have stocked up leather and blue jean needles and have alot of thread and regular hand sewingneedles I had a Janome limited edition and when I moved here 5 year ago..I sold it,I was working full time in retail and had put the sewing aside(Now I wished I kept it)..I will go out on the hunt for a new machine..I do alot of sewing and if I bought used or bought an inexpensive brand I would more then likely burn the motor out..or throw the tension |

Right now I have a Singer quilt-mate that is designed to handle the heavy fabrics. This has a heavy-duty motor in it and can easily be converted to treadle Meewee |

This one might not be as important as the ones you all are doing, but
when we are home, I turn the tv OFF, turn the PS2 OFF, turn the
Gameboys OFF, and we read books, play games, and play with the Star
Wars action figures. I figure with enough practice on this, IF we ever
have to go without power, and we are stuck inside it wont be such a
shock to go without electronics.
But, I am purchasing a portable DVD player with a car charger.....just in case.  Hey, I have to have some sort of backup to spare my sanity! |

I bought this pressure canner last year and have been using it. This thing is GREAT. It holds 7 quart jars at once so Im not canning all day. |

I purchased a newspaper log rolling machine($37). After making a few mods, including adding a rolling pin with small bungies to the top, it's now a one-person operation. I can make a log in about 10 minutes. Just about eveyone is happy to give you their newspaper recycling. If anyone is interested, I can post a more detailed explanation of the process. |

I also bought a pressure canner this year. Before I got scared off chicken I used it to can up a bunch of chicken. This was a totally new deal for me. The thing I actually get tickled about is the whole new vocabulary I have developed since I became a Flubie. I am one of those people that believes that if someone can do it, I can do it. Now, don't get me wrong, I fail plenty. But I don't go into things thinking I'm going to fail. I'm game for just about anything at least once. Hey, I learned to ride a motor cycle in middle age. If I can do that, I can do just about anything. I am also always doing about 5 things at once. I read three to four books at once. I love to sew. I have one of those whiz bang computer machines that is going to be totally useless to me without power. But I also have an old Singer treadle machine. I paint, oil and watercolor. I am trying to learn digital photography & editing (slow going, spending too much time here). So after all that rambling...I'm not really currently learning a new skill for pandemic. Busy enough. I do want to get the basic principles of electronics down & I also have an excellent Russian language course that I will dig back out if pandemic hits. |
