DCHHS: 10 Zika cases reported in TexasBy WFAA Staff DALLAS -- A total of 10 Zika virus cases have been reported in the state of Texas so far this year, according to the Dallas County Department of Health and Human Services. All of the patients had returned to Texas from affected countries, and one patient in Dallas became infected through sexual contact. "The current outbreak of Zika virus in the Americas is unprecedented in magnitude, and clinical guidance is anticipated to evolve as more information accrues," the department said. Symptoms include a rash, conjunctivitis, fever and/or athralgia. Health officials say most patients recover within a week. However, pregnant women who catch the virus, which typically comes from mosquito bites, run the risk of developing congenital microcephaly and fetal losses. Guillain-Barre Syndrome has also been reported in Zika patients. Two cases were reported in Dallas County, including the first case of the virus being transfered through sex. Both patients have recovered. Go here for more information from the CDC. The DCHHS recommends reducing your chances of mosquito bites using the same tactics as West Nile virus season:
