In my neck of the woods, things have gone very quiet since the Baxter scandal (BS) in relation to reporting by the media of bird flu related topics.
Maybe I've incorrectly made a connection between the BS and sudden drying up of media stories on anything related bird flu...... I don't know.
I subscribe to a number internet news sources that up until the last week or so have been reporting deaths, infections, outbreaks etc in Egypt, Indonesia, India, Pakistan, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Germany, etc.
All I've read this week are stories of drivel about how the US is going to train Vietnamese vets in infection control, and a new vaccine possibility, etc etc. .....What happened to all the current outbreaks, the people who were infected and dying? etc .....
Anyway, my point in posting this is to find out from other members in different countries if they are experiencing similar things.
Australian media very rarely reports anyting related to Bird Flu. You might see the odd internet story from an Australian newspaper online, but never in the daily papers or on the nightly news.
Consequently we are probably the most under-prepared westernised country in the world.
There was an outbreak of H5N1 in poultry recently in Denpasar Bali, a hugely popular holiday destination for Australians and it didn't even make the news here. No warnings for travellers ....no nothing.
Anway, I look forward to your comments.
