Non-sensical Riffle Addiction starts with a colt....DJ, The (early)  US has "strong Dutch roots"...When the UK did take "Nieuw Nederland", renamed "Nieuw Amsterdam" as New York they "only silenced the Dutch" - calling them "Jan-Kees", not knowing the Yankee would return...

So it is NOT meant to be anti-American;

NL Comedy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a-o9pwWUzz0 or https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a-o9pwWUzz0There's something going on in the world. A situation we cannot ignore any longer and we need to address it. Say nay to NRA (nonsensical rifle addiction). From the creator of 'Netherlands Second' and 'Westeros the Serie's. Arjen Lubach remixes the week in thirty minutes, makes frozen stories melt and repairs breaking news. DJ, "A right to carry a weapon" may have made sense in the 18th century...Lots of countries allowed weapons-at least for some-back then...

From India, WION https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SzhA79JDVfI or https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SzhA79JDVfI ;

The US Supreme Court struck down its historic Roe V Wade judgment, endangering the abortion rights of 36 million American women. How will the verdict change America's abortion laws? Can states find a workaround? Palki Sharma tells you. #Gravitas #RoevsWade #Abortionlaws

DJ, A less then 1 minute video-yet very strong; "US top court putting religion above rights"...

DJ-In lots of countries people fight for a right of legal abortion - not because they "like abortions" but illegal abortion is killing millions of women...Here in NL good info is helping to keep the number of abortions limited...But the US suppreme court may now go against a right on good info, anti-conception, even gay-mariage....

The US is destroying itself as "a moral leader of the free west"....

https://nltimes.nl/2022/06/21/senate-agrees-abolish-mandatory-5-day-abortion-waiting-period or https://nltimes.nl/2022/06/21/senate-agrees-abolish-mandatory-5-day-abortion-waiting-period

Women who want to get an abortion will no longer have to wait five days before they can terminate their pregnancy. The Eerste Kamer, the upper house of Dutch parliament, voted in favor of a joint bill submitted by the PvdA, GroenLinks, VVD and D66 which abolishes the mandatory period of reflection. The Tweede Kamer, the lower house, already voted in favor of the bill. The amendment is expected to take effect on January 1, 2023.

The bill was passed by a total of 57 votes in favor and 17 against. The CDA members were divided, with four of its senators in favor and the other five opposed. Parties who voted entirely against the bill include the Christian parties SGP and ChristenUnie, two far-right parties, PVV and Forum for Democracy, and the sole senator from OSF, a cooperation of local parties across the Netherlands.

The five-day waiting period starts after consultation with a doctor. It was intended to help women make an "informed and careful" decision about an abortion. Proponents of the new bill said the law was outdated and needed to be changed because women are quite capable of making such a decision more quickly. In the future, a woman will be able to decide for herself, in consultation with a doctor and on a case-by-case basis, whether a thinking period is actually necessary.

DJ, The US may now have an abortion-law that is worse then Brasil has...

Nine former senior Border Patrol officials, including four national Border Patrol chiefs have written a letter to Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas voicing opposition to the punishment of agents who were cleared of charges of ‘whipping’ migrants.

As we noted last week, Joe Biden’s Department of Homeland Security is reportedly still going to punish the Border Patrol Agents in connection with the infamous fake ‘whipping’ Haitian migrants incident that was hyped up by Democrats and the media, even though the agents were found to have done nothing wrong.

The agents were not whipping migrants, they were holding horse reigns to control their animals, a fact that was pointed out at the time of the incident, even by the photographer who took the original images.

https://act.represent.us/sign/democracy-republic or https://act.represent.us/sign/democracy-republic ;

Bonus: Is the United States still a democracy/republic?

In the literal sense of the word, yes. In practice, the answer is more complicated. In 2016, The Economist Intelligence Unit downgraded the United States from a “full democracy” to a “flawed democracy” in its Democracy Report, an annual study of the “state of democracy” around the world.

There were a number of reasons the nation’s rating fell, but one of the most important was the American public’s declining trust in government. Our system of government depends on citizens being able to freely elect leaders who will represent their interests. Unfortunately, that doesn’t always happen. In a study published 2014, two political scientists found that, on average, the policies representatives pursue are not in fact dictated by public opinion. This is the mark of a flawed democracy/republic: election without true representation.

In 2021, the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (IDEA) classified the United States as a "backsliding democracy" for the first time.

So, is the United States a democracy or a republic?

The United States is both a democracy and a republic.

https://act.represent.us/sign/historic-first-united-states-classified-backsliding-democracy/ or https://act.represent.us/sign/historic-first-united-states-classified-backsliding-democracy/ ;

Democracy on the Decline Around the World

For the first time since the annual report began in 2017, the United States has been classified as a backsliding democracy. And although IDEA only began publishing the report in 2017, their data goes back to 1975, meaning that this is the first time in 45 years that IDEA’s researchers have noticed such a decline. Unfortunately, the United States is far from alone in its democratic decline. Nearly three times as many countries are trending towards authoritarianism as are trending towards democracy. In the most recent report, IDEA contended that 20 countries are moving in an “authoritarian direction,” while only seven countries were said to be headed in a democratic one.

DJ, International companies with a "bigger GDP" then a lot of countries, 0,1% of the global population claiming to "own" more then 50% of "the world" does "not make democracy stronger"....

It is NOT only a US problem, the EU moving towards the same direction..."Politics" ending up making choices a majority of the people do NOT agree with...Reason why climate change, pandemics, wars keep going on...

Pendulum swings.

Authoritarian left wing swinging back to a democratic right. Eventually it will swing to authoritarian right and we swing back again. 30 years or so

Roe V Wade case in point. Leftist nut jobs were pushing things like infanticide to be legal. This is obviously mental. I think it was Gov Cuomo's laws made this technically possible.

Irony... Cuomo banned lethal injection for murderers. Must have been saving up his poisons for them dangerous babies.

The French revolution 1789 followed the US 1776 "revolution" - so French ideas may have played a role in early US history but French "state institutions" did not...

The idea of a "federal supreme court" and "president" (not a king) may have Dutch roots...https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/President_(government_title) or https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/President_(government_title) could be seen as chairman...https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dutch_Republic or https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dutch_Republic ;

The United Provinces of the Netherlands, also known as the United Provinces, officially as the Republic of the Seven United Netherlands (DutchRepubliek der Zeven Verenigde Nederlanden), and commonly referred to in historiography as the Dutch Republic, was a federal republic which existed from 1588, during the Dutch Revolt, to 1795 (the Batavian Revolution). It was a predecessor state of the Netherlands and the first fully independent Dutch nation state.

The republic was established after seven Dutch provinces in the Spanish Netherlands revolted against rule by Spain. The provinces formed a mutual alliance against Spain in 1579 (the Union of Utrecht) and declared their independence in 1581 (the Act of Abjuration). It comprised GroningenFrisiaOverijsselGueldersUtrechtHolland and Zeeland.

Although the state was small and contained only around 1.5 million inhabitants, it controlled a worldwide network of seafaring trade routes. Through its trading companies, the Dutch East India Company (VOC) and the Dutch West India Company (GWC), it established a Dutch colonial empire. The income from this trade allowed the Dutch Republic to compete militarily against much larger countries. It amassed a huge fleet of 2,000 ships, initially larger than the fleets of England and France combined. Major conflicts were fought in the Eighty Years' War against Spain (from the foundation of the Dutch Republic until 1648), the Dutch–Portuguese War (1602–1663), four Anglo-Dutch Wars (the first against the Commonwealth of England, two against the Kingdom of England, and a fourth against the Kingdom of Great Britain1652–16541665–16671672–1674 and 1780–1784), the Franco-Dutch War (1672–1678), and War of the Grand Alliance (1688–1697) against the Kingdom of France.

The republic was more tolerant of different religions and ideas than its contemporary states were, allowing freedom of thought to its residents. Artists flourished under this regime, including painters such as RembrandtJohannes Vermeer and many others. So did scientists, such as Hugo GrotiusChristiaan Huygens and Antonie van Leeuwenhoek. Because Dutch trade, science, military, and art were among the most acclaimed in the world during much of the 17th century, this period became known in Dutch history as the Dutch Golden Age.

The republic was a confederation of provinces each with a high degree of independence from the federal assembly, known as the States General. In the Peace of Westphalia (1648) the republic gained approximately 20% more territory, located outside the member provinces, which was ruled directly by the States General as Generality Lands. Each province was led by an official known as the stadtholder (Dutch for 'steward'); this office was nominally open to anyone, but most provinces appointed a member of the House of Orange. The position gradually became hereditary, with the Prince of Orange simultaneously holding most or all of the stadtholderships, making them effectively the head of state. This created tension between political factions: the Orangists favoured a powerful stadtholder, while the Republicans favoured a strong States General. The Republicans forced two Stadtholderless Periods, 1650–1672 and 1702–1747, with the latter causing national instability and the end of Great Power status.

Economic decline led to a period of political instability known as the Patriottentijd (1780–87). This unrest was temporarily suppressed by a Prussian invasion in support of the stadtholder. The French Revolution and subsequent War of the First Coalition caused these tensions to reignite. Following military defeat by France, the stadtholder was expelled in the Batavian Revolution of 1795. This ended the Dutch Republic; it was succeeded by the Batavian Republic.

Presidential elections in most countries are not that problematic as US presidential elections have become...

However "you have rules" and you have "how people (mis)use rules"....Funding of political parties by big companies may be missed in "old rules", ignoring "politics for sale" could be seen as misuse of rules...

DJ-The "United States of the Netherlands" as a (sort of) Republic did see lots of conflicts later on showing up in the USA (what to organize on a federal level, what on provincial/state level. NL itself did not have official "slaves" but was one of the major slave traders...Also the "religious questions" (and conflicts between protestants and catholics a.o.) tolerating other religions-as long as they were hidden-keeps returning in NL history...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Republic#History or https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Republic#History a "republic" as "state" may be an older idea then "kings/queens"...

On the Women on Waves abortion ship, pregnancies can be terminated outside the territorial waters of countries where abortion is illegal. According to Gomperts, the organization is not currently deploying the ship, but is examining "whether that makes sense, where and when."

However, Gomperts helps pregnant women with abortion pills through another organization she is affiliated with, Aid Access. Demand for prescriptions for those pills has increased from 600 emails per day to 4,000 emails per day since the Supreme Court ruling. "That says something about the panic that prevails," Gomperts said.

The doctor wants abortion pills to be freely available at drug stores in the U.S. This can also offer solace in conservative states. "The pills also work well against endometriosis and they can be used as contraception. The right to it has not been deleted.

and https://nltimes.nl/2022/07/02/hundreds-gather-dam-square-protest-abortion-rights or https://nltimes.nl/2022/07/02/hundreds-gather-dam-square-protest-abortion-rights ;

Protesters flooded Dam Square in Amsterdam on Saturday afternoon to support abortion rights in the Netherlands, in response to the recent U.S. Supreme Court decision that abolished people’s constituional right to abortions. The organizers of the protest call for the removal of abortion from the Dutch Criminal Code.

The demonstration, which began at 1 p.m. on Saturday, is organized by the groups Baas in Eigen Buik (Boss of Your Own Belly) and Abortus is Een Recht (Abortion is a Right). They call attention to the fact that, although people can receive abortions up to 24 weeks of pregnancy in the Netherlands, and after that time under certain conditions, abortion is still punishable under the Dutch Criminal Code if not performed in a hospital or abortion clinic.

DJ To prevent abortions the best way good info/education is needed...So you see better informed women have much less abortions...

Problem is some groups are also against good info/education on relations and sexuality....

DJ-Not only in the US but it looks worldwide-abortion rights, gaymarriage/adoption rights to "insect-burgers", fighting pandemics, climate change is under attack...

I think some people see those "views" as a threat for their way of thinking...

I am against-of possible-mandatory vaccinations...want good and honest info on vaccination-risks (and I think we are not getting that !!!). But "groups" against vaccinations often are also against good info....

Here in NL you have "child benifits" (part of it based on a law from 1941-a nazi-law to promote "https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aryan_race or https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aryan_race )..Some "families" have "lots of children" -sometimes for financial reasons...I rather would see that money was invested in free  (tax paid) child care and education...

A taboo is "better educated" have less/no children...often the lower the level of education the more children women get...(with of course men also in a role).

Good info-going for facts-can avoid pointless discussions and "factfree science" resulting in crazy laws/rulings.....

Going for "a new cold war"; the "west" against "the rest"-mainly Russia-China https://www.zerohedge.com/geopolitical/chinese-and-russian-navies-circle-japan-show-force or https://www.zerohedge.com/geopolitical/chinese-and-russian-navies-circle-japan-show-force  has-I think-a relation with "steps back" on abortion-rights, gaymarriage etc...It is a "bigger picture"...
