I just read something on twitter about two new cases of bird flu in Cambodia of an older version. Anyone have any news on this? |

and DJ, so-if correct-Cambodia had three fatalities this year due to H5N1; february 11 y/o girl october 50 y/o man october 2 y/o girl At least two of them -the two girls- linked to Prey Veng province. ------------ H5N1 is widespread in both birds and mammals -more or less around the globe. It WILL mix with other flu-virusses in a host...I think the major risk will be in H5N1 mixing with a H1/H2/H3 flu virus... Flu virussspread is already decreasing eggs/poultry in a.o. South Africa...so it does increase food costs... |

https://afludiary.blogspot.com/2023/10/cambodian-moh-reports-2nd-fatal-h5n1.html or https://afludiary.blogspot.com/2023/10/cambodian-moh-reports-2nd-fatal-h5n1.html ; Despite our recent preoccupation with HPAI H5N1 clade 2.3.4.4b, which has been spreading with remarkable speed via migratory birds for the past couple of years, HPAI H5Nx viruses remain a diverse, and evolving threat.
We've seen more than 60 H5N6 human cases in China over the past 3 years, and last winter we saw the return of clade 2.3.2.1c in Cambodia, where it killed an 11-year old girl and infected her father. Although we've stood on the precipice before with avian flu before, only to see the threat recede, there are no guarantees we will be as lucky this time. But even if we are - Influenza's superpower lies in its ability to evolve, adapt, and reinvent itself (via reassortment). DJ, in the UK testing poultry workers did find several cases of a-symptomatic spread. Maybe a combination with other flu type could see a more dangerous variant...
