Bird flu vaccine on way (Australia) The Herald Sun understands the first human clinical trials show the prototype vaccine for the H5N1 strain of avian influenza has performed effectively. However, scientists at CSL's Parkville laboratories believe more work needs to be done to establish the correct dosage levels to better protect likely recipients. First tests of the vaccine involved 400 Australians aged between 18-45. Australia already has purchased one of the largest stockpiles of anti-viral medicines in the world. It is understood the next stage of the trials will see 700 people -- including the young and the elderly -- injected with the potential lifesaving vaccine. Today's announcement comes as bird flu continues to sweep across Europe, with Germany, Iran and Austria the latest countries to be affected. well the Aussies will get first pick at that. Then the rest of politicians round the world i suggest. Wonder what strain they used? How effective would it bee v other h2h mutations? All aimless wanderings.By the time they have something that works the survivors will be immune i suspect

Rowee, Read several articles about vaccines. When this type of article comes out, it is a company fishing for some development money. It's a long, long way from animal vaccines to human trails and approval. Muskrat makes a good point. On what virus configuration will they be developing? The virus' H5N3, H7N7 and H9N2 is also on the list for a possibility to drift to H2H. The chinese have developed a bird vaccine that is put into the bird's water. But that is light-years from something that would be useful to humans. There won't be a magic bullet for this virus. We are like a box of kittens compared to the intelligence of nature.
