Fearless residents gorge on Ashoknagar, Feb. 21: As the fear of bird flu looms large over the state, over 400 residents of Ashoknagar had a sumptuous chicken meal on Tuesday. The menu included five hundred kg of chicken kasha and garam bhat. Interestingly, the feast was organised by local chicken sellers, poultry feed sellers and people engaged in other poultry business, in order to ward off rumours of bird flu, which have brought down the sale of chicken in the past few days. "Chicken curry has been my favourite and I am happy that speculations of bird flu proved to be baseless, at least in West Bengal. The state chief minister has assured us of the fact," rejoiced Tapas Talukdar, a local, who enjoyed a delicious meal. The area has a large number of people engaged in poultry business. A chicken seller claimed that there was nothing to fear. "Two years ago, a similar scare cropped up, however, it proved baseless. It is going to be the same this time round," he added. http://www.asianage.com/main.asp?layout=2&cat1=11&ca t2=59&newsid=210031&RF=DefaultMain |
