But at least they're doing the right thing.  The whining here will be deafening when municipalities start locking down again.

I wonder if we can go back into another lock-down on a wide scale.  What is happening here is that the schools have gone back (for a short two week period before our early summer holidays), and every day there are reports in the news about various schools that have had to go back into lock-down/quarantine as cases will spread.  But they have not gone back to a nation-wide lock-down of schools.

Maybe, it is OK not to have a wide lock-down again IF small local ones can be started at need (and if people obey them). The problem might be if there is economic pressure to prevent for example schools closing (so parents can get to work) or prevent factories shutting for deep cleaning.

We don't have the national leadership necessary to do something like that here, Edwin.  We also have a bunch of patriots/anarchists who want to do what they want to do when they want to do it and they have permission from present leadership to do so.

And there doesn't seem to be any understanding of the devastating impact this will have world-wide.

It boggles my mind that so many Americans won’t take the steps required to help slow this thing .  You’d think they’d do whatever it takes to stop this but no.   My liberties have been infringed by suggesting I wear a mask.   Such a small inconvenience

Everyone is out for their own personal satisfaction.  Instant gratification etc...       they have no idea what’s happening in the 3 rd world.   What I wouldn’t give to have every single one spend a week somewhere without all the luxuries they have now

A lock down should be looked on as helping your fellow citizen, not an impingement of your Rights.....

I think Jesus would agree,

Thanks, WM, I agree!

The damn small restaurant and bar owners are really ticking me off, agitating for reopening etc.  Didn't they buy disaster insurance for events like this?  Would they be re-opening if they were in the middle of a flood or hurricane or tornado vs. pandemic that cannot be seen/felt?

Fine, let them reopen their supper clubs and saloons in Wisconsin, Texas etc.  My wife and I are staying far, far away from the madding crowd and hoi polloi.   When case counts begin to soar again (give it a couple of incubation periods, say 3-4 weeks), states will try to lock down again, and the assault rifles will really come out to play.  Sad but true.

I'm tempted to say let's hope they all catch it then and that'll teach them, but it's all the incidental people that they'll take down with them, the people who work in cafes and shops, supermarkets and service industries. If only the stupid idiots could catch this then it really would be a case of survival of the fittest, but unfortunately Covid 19 is not that discriminating. What a pity.

Those who got it wrong, for whatever reason, may feel defensive and retrench into a position that doesn’t accord with the facts.

I don't think there is such a thing as pandemic insurance.  Even if there was, it's doubtful anyone would buy it.

My issue is not so much when case counts begin to soar.  The books are being cooked to suppress the numbers.  It's the body count that will tell the tale.  Even then it won't be added to the Covid count so we'll never really know.  I don't believe for one moment the states will not lock down again.. or the "red" states won't.  Not until there's a national plan.   Maybe you and your wife should try Air B&B and get your butts to the northeast.  We're following science here and not fudging numbers.  There's a two week quarantine, but after this, I'm sure you guys can handle it!

As an American, I've had similar thoughts.  Being a Protestant (non-evangelical), I find pangs of guilt when I think... good!  Let them get what they ask for.  And they're asking for it.

Most of those services still run.  Re open the rest and, in adition to the increasing risks to you and yours, you INCREASE the risks to those essential workers.

Help protect those who helped you.  Or did they do it - risking their lives - just so you could get your nails done?
