A nurse in Spain has become the first person to contract Ebola outside of West Africa in the latest epidemic, authorities said on Monday. The woman, who was described as a "sanitary tech," last month treated a priest in Madrid who later died of Ebola after contracting the virus while doing missionary work in Sierra Leone. The elderly priest,
Manuel Garcia Viejo, was treated in Madrid's Carlos III hospital, where
he had been in quarantine since his return from Africa. He died on Sept.
25. The nurse entered the priest's room twice: Once to treat him and
once upon his death, to recover his belongings, officials said. She
began showing signs of illness on Sept. 30 and sought treatment, they
said. Medclinician |

http://www.gmanetwork.com/news/story/382777/news/world/ebola-still-rampant-in-three-african-countries-as-deaths-near-4-000-who
The figures we are receiving from most reporting sources are totally inaccurate to the point they are fairly meaningless. Sierra Leone is nearly in chaos as rumors spread that this was a specifically engineered virus to decrease the population. Also, the quarantine situation, is becoming more of one gathering large groups of people who are not getting care or sufficient food and are more likely to die in very bad conditions. Although there are many threads here- I still am going to try to keep this one up for some type of cohesive overview of what may be a developing Pandemic which may include from 3-6 major viruses as well as a dozen the heavy weights such as small pox, dengue fever, cholera, swine flu, MERS, and many others. There has been a case which is being observed of D68 (enterovirus) in Santa Cruz, Calfornia. Ebola is not the flu. This whole thing of low fatality rates and every year people get the flu and it is not that big a deal is not going to fly with Ebola. The CFR on this can be as much as 70%. Don't panic-prepare... I expect this is going to felt soon in the stock market and also as the winter is upon us - the Flu is going to start weighing in to cause an even more nasty situation. If Ebola could spread in West Africa, it can spread outside of it. Europe in places has poor sanitation and provide additional hotbeds or clusters. We can all hope it just goes away. For the time being, it isn't. Medclinician |
