hi...

we see that according to the translation...he said..    the virus.    not   "new Virus"

H1N1 is highly infective similar to other countries...we also had a high infection rate here.

They did warn us that this H1N1 would act very different among populations in various

countries ...every population/area has a different health status.

as for    Viral  distress syndrome

Swine flu and Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS)
..............................................................................................

The swine flu is killing people in South Africa and the best way to aviod it is just to stay at home but not everyone can do this. Mostly Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) is not mentioned as a direct symptom of swine flu but if we look at the cases we soon see that most people that die from swine flu actually dies from Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS).
Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) will make a person feel like they cant get enough air to or through their lungs, other symptoms include:
Anxiety
Shortness of breath
Agitation
Fever
tachypnea
dyspnea
Shock
Blue skin, lips
Laboared breathing
Rapid breathing
Confusion
There are other signs as well

Today a man in India died of Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) as well a woman in South Africa. Most cases where someone has died of swine flu involves ARDS.

So rather be safe than sorry if you have a few of these symptoms you should let it get checked out.

Pandemic (H1N1) 2009, Ukraine - update 2

17 November 2009 -- Preliminary tests reveal no significant changes in the pandemic (H1N1) 2009 virus based on investigations of samples taken from patients in Ukraine. Analyses are being performed by two WHO influenza collaborating centres as part of the global influenza surveillance network.

Preliminary genetic sequencing shows that the virus is similar to the virus used for production of the pandemic influenza vaccine, reconfirming the vaccine's efficacy at this time.

Additional questions about the pandemic virus circulating in Ukraine will be answered as more data is available.

WHO commends the government of Ukraine for its open sharing of samples to inform global monitoring of the virus for signs of change.

A total of 34 samples were analysed independently by the WHO Collaborating Centre for Reference and Research on Influenza, Mill Hill in London, UK, and the WHO Collaborating Centre for the Surveillance, Epidemiology and Control of Influenza in Atlanta, Georgia, USA.

Is there any other group / organization that is capable of identifying what is happening over there? If there is no significant change, why would so many people test negative that are so ill. This is very disturbing.

Ok folks, articles are TERRIBLE.  Is it or is it not H1N1. Has it or has it not mutated.  Is it or is it not resmebling 1918....this is SO frustrating!

Ok, let's look at "similar" H1N1 strains.  First, we have "minor" receptor binding domain changes in D225N or D225G in San Paulo resulting in fatalities similar to Ukraine.   Then we have a cluster of H274Y patients in Scotland that results in Tamiflu resistance.  So far these do not affect vaccine efficacy but do result in more fatalities.

Are such changes "significant"???  You decide.

If we had the Ukraine gene sequecing, and IF there are revision changes at
D225N, one could argue that the changes at receptor binding domains are similar to 1918.  They were in Brazil.  Here is an excerpt from a September 2009 analysis of the Brazil strain.

2009-09-17

Deaths in Brasil Match 1918 and H5N1 Receptor Binding Domain at HA 225G

Within 9 Sao Paulo sequences released today from Brasil spanning late July to mid August 2009, we find at least 6 distinct HA backgrounds of which 5 are compelling and 2 are novel to the PF11 reservoir.  Sequences from potentially expired patients are indicated boldly.  This level of genetic diversity at key antigen sites on the Hemagglutinin (HA/H1) in a single geography during a common timeframe is of great interest and, at a minimum, reflects regional Acquisition Acceleration

Bear in mind that in the early stages of the pandemic, PF11 exhibited extreme stability demonstrating 100% homology across entire countries.  You will find in the early record several groups of more than 400 HA and NA sequences across diverse geography that match exactly.  We are now in a new phase as the PF11 reservoir has been passaged within humans through one winter cycle in the Southern Hemisphere and has demonstrated the ability to rapidly gain beneficial genetic traits, traits that drive toward fatal outcomes.

.......Background4
SaoPaulo53845
206T
225N

In addition to these two specimens from Brasil, 225N is found only on one other PF11 sequence, NY4099.  Several Korean swine carry the change.  More importantly, a linked candidate, A/swine/Hong Kong/NS1659/2001, featuring widely in PF11 Genetic Acquisition paths also carries 225N.  HKswNS1659 shows HA:188I, 189T, 252M & 261K with additional matching to the 2008-2009 Seasonal Influenza NA Triple Combination, 106I, 248N, 286G.

Background5
SaoPaulo53206, SaoPaulo53225
206T
225G

Receptor Binding Domain changes at 225 may be correlative to fatal outcomes in Brasil as 100% of these cases appear to have expired (4/4).  However, the RBD change may not be a requirement for fatality in SaoPaulo.  Of three cases carrying only the 206T revision, one (SaoPaulo54392) appears to have expired.

225G is consensus for H5N1, is carried on NewYork1918 and only appears in six other PF11 sequences across the US and Mexico.

mysty - thanks for the websites, love them!  DISCLAIMER:  everything is a guess, because no one knows for sure :)  however, I would say that it does not seem like the ukraine situation can be the 1918 all over again because if it were, would't  there be a TON more deaths than there are now?

I looked up parainfluenza yesterday and what I read disturbed me greatly and left me with one question.  Which form of parainfluenza is it that is circulating in the Ukraine?  Especially since it goes directly to the lungs and causes such profound damage to them in such a short period of time.  I would really love to know the exact classification and subtype.

Georgia fears, which To [saakashvili] will bring from the Ukraine influenza. They want to introduce the quarantine On the eve of the visit of the President of Georgia Mikhail [Saakashvili] to the Ukraine on Tuesday at the plenary sitting of Parliament the deputies from the opposition required the introduction of rigid quarantine measures in the attitude of the Georgian citizens of those being returning from this country. “We is required from the government to immediately stop civil communication or to introduce severe quarantine conditions with the Ukraine, where, as British specialists reported to us, “pig influenza” underwent mutation and acquired very dangerous form for the man”, said at the sitting of Parliament deputy [Dzhondi] Of [bagaturiya]. The representatives of parliamentary majority calculated the initiative of deputy from the opposition “of incompetent” and certified, that the measures, undertaken by the Ministry of Pub. Health of Georgia for the non-admission of the epidemic of influenza are sufficient, reports “the Interfax- Ukraine”. As reported ForUm, on November 18 to 19 the present year will take place the working visit of the President of Georgia Mikhail [Saakashvili] to the Ukraine. In the course of visit it is planned to sign the agreements between the governments about the air traffic and about the collaboration between the Ministry of Justice of two countries. Within the framework this visit are provided the negotiations Of [saakashvili] with the President of the Ukraine Victor Yushchenko, the participation of Heads of The State in the ceremony of the discovery the new Embassy premises of Georgia in the Ukraine, and also the presentation of the free industrial zone of Poti city. Let us recall, as of evening, on November 16 a quantity of victims of the disease by influenza and [ORVI] grew in the Ukraine to 315 people. In Ukraine, the alarm phase red has been declared. According to the health authorities, the country has been hit by a new influenza virus that’s more dangerous than the swine (H1N1) flu. It seems to be a new variant that has mutated from the California flu and two seasonal flu viruses. The World Health Organisation (WHO) is still treating it as ‘normal’ swine flu.

Ukrainian doctors who examined two victims spoke of “lungs as black as charcoal”. This description ties in with earlier reports from hospitals on the west of Ukraine. A record number of people have been admitted with very serious bronchial infections, especially pneumonia. Most of the patients reported to a doctor far too late, and died from the effects of the virus.

Life at a standstill
Public life has been a standstill in the former Soviet republic for several weeks as a result of the severe outbreak of flu that has so far cost the lives of 189 people. All public events are forbidden, schools and universities are shut, and a number of border posts with the Czech Republic and Russia have been closed.

The WHO is trying to temper the alarming messages coming out of Ukraine. The first results of a WHO investigation into the 'superflu' did not point to an abnormal situation. Genetic analysis showed that the H1N1 virus was the main cause of the problems. Furthermore, the WHO says it has not mutated, and currently available pandemic vaccine offers sufficient protection.

Government not prepared
The problem is only that Ukraine doesn't have any vaccine. In the run-up to the pandemic the government didn't pay sufficient heed to the warnings. The vaccine was not ordered, and the stocks of antiviral drugs are minimal. There has been absolutely no information provided to the public. For ordinary citizens, good healthcare is seldom available. Even domestic medicines are either unaffordable or sold out.

The opposition accuses President Yushchenko of misusing the flu epidemic. It says that by creating confusion and anxiety, he wants to divert attention from the poor state of the economy. In January, the people are due to go to the polls to elect a new president, but because of the flu political meetings are forbidden.

Ukraine flu death toll goes up - British labs test to ID flu as H1N1, Spanish flu, or something else

In the Ukraine, a strain of the flu has infected 1.4 million people. The death toll, according to the Ukraine Health Ministry, is at 315 people as of November 16, 2009. The World Bank Database gives the estimated population for the Ukraine as a little over 46 million. While the percentages do not appear high, the reported symptoms and contagion patterns of this flu are of concern to some doctors. The virus is being tested at the Medical Research Council laboratories, in Britain.

Symptoms of the Ukrainian flu

"We don't believe it's H1N1 swine flu. Neither do we know what kind of pneumonia it is," states Ukrainian emergency physician Myron Borysevych. The Daily Mail states that doctors are likening this strain of the flu to the Spanish flu, which included internal hemorrhage and edema in the lungs.

World Health Organization Comments about Ukrainian flu

Last week, the World Health Organization team working in the Ukraine stated that there would be a second wave of the epidemic. This prediction appears to be coming true. The Ukraine Health Ministry reports 16 new deaths in the past day alone.

Testing of the Ukraine flu virus is underway

Samples of the Ukraine flu virus were provided to a British lab, for testing to conclusively subtype the virus. Learning whether the virus is a mutated form of the H1N1 swine flu, or an entirely new type of flu virus, will help health officials and members of the public take necessary measures for protection from this deadly disease.

Influenza in Ukraine mutated and burns the lungs, say British scientists

time of publication: November 16, 2009, 19:15
Last update: November 17, 2009, 09:55
British scientists studying a strain of swine influenza, because of which the epidemic began in Ukraine, suspect that there was a dangerous virus mutation, writes Daily Mail.
Some of the symptoms, doctors say resemble virus "Spanish flu" outbreak in Europe after the First World War.  InoРressa . Then the virus have died at least 20 million people, reports InoRressa. In favor of the version of mutation of the virus, according to doctors, said that the lungs of victims of the disease are black as coal."We conducted an autopsy of the two victims and found that their lungs are black as coal. They look as if they were burned. It's terrible," - said one of the researchers.
In turn, the chief doctor of the Lviv Emergency Hospital Miron Borisevich identified diagnosed as viral pneumonia."We do not believe that this swine influenza A/H1N1. But we do not know what kind of pneumonia," - he said
Note that before strong influence of a new strain of influenza in the lungs was found during experiments on animals.  Researchers from Japan, testing of new drugs against swine flu, confirmed that the disease is transmitted by airborne droplets and not always through direct contact.  In addition, they concluded that A/H1N1 is stronger than the usual flu affects the lungs.
This is acted at the time the virus "Spanish flu".As established scientists, it caused an uncontrolled reaction of the immune system, forcing the immune cells attack the organs of the respiratory system. Such a reaction, as shown by experiments on animals, in a few days destroyed their lungs and lead to death.
Recall earlier Chernivtsi Medical Group, headed by the Chief of the Chernivtsi regional forensic bureau, Professor Victor Bachinsky, concluded that 22 people have died in Bukovina during the influenza epidemic, died of viral distress syndrome, ie the total destruction of the lungs.
According to doctors, the disease has arisen as a result of mixing conventional and swine strains of influenza, is new to Ukraine, because an urgent need to change its methods of treatment. Total in Ukraine during the influenza epidemic of complications of 299 people died.

They are claiming over 2 mill sick and over 1000 dead in two weeks.   Sounds about right.

Ukrainian authorities hide the true information about swine flu in the country. Number of registered flu and ARVI accidents grew up in 2.5 times -- Tymoshenko said. But it is not the real situation. Real number of victims is much higher. Doctors say, that more than 1000 people has already died of flu in Ukraine. Some hours ago the Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko has informed, that the number of registered flu and ARVI cases in Ukraine in November, 8-10 has grown up again more than in 2.5 times. Experts suppose about more than 2 million flu diseased.

“The number of registered flu and ARVI accidents has increased in 2.5-3 times during the period from 8 to 10 of November. It is about that epidemic is not coming down”, noticed Tymoshenko, but people don’t believe her.

Well if the virus mutated, will the vaccine do any good? or just harm.  I am very interested to know if any of the people on this forum, who have had the vaccine, are having any problems?

I've had the vaccine, 4=laro. It was last Tuesday (10/11) when I got it. Only symptom was a sore arm which went away after 3 days. Apart from that - nothing. Seven days before I got the jag and 2 days after, I was living in the same apartment as my fiancee who was diagnosed with "possible" swine flu. She got Tamiflu and when that ran out on the day I got the jag, she called the doctor for more advice and he said that it "sounds like you did have swine flu."
Now I'm a T2 Diabetic and I was very concerned about living with the virus for a week before getting the jag, but I got absolutely nothing. Not even a sniffle. Usually, if my fiancee gets the slightest cold, I'll get a little of it too.
But this time, absolutely nothing.

One of the most important issues now is not the fact there is an outbreak, but rather what the actual pathogen of the outbreak is, if it has spread outside the Ukraine, and whether it is or will be present in the U.S. It is unlikely this is - as the thread suggests a mutation of Swine Flu. So we go into completely new waters with what pathogen is it, as well as how it is spreading. It is possible it is in no way at all related to Swine Flu.

Receptor Binding Domain Change D225G Confirmed in Ukraine
******** Commentary 14:41
November 18, 2009
Mill Hill has released a series of sequences from patients in Ukraine.  Four of the samples had the receptor binding domain change D225G.  Three samples were from lung, one from a throat swab.

Samples with D255G are listed below

A/Lviv/N6/2009

A/Lviv/N2/2009

A/Ternopil/N11/2009

A/Ternopil/N10/2009

All HA samples also had a Ukraine specific marker that had been previously found in swine.

More detailed analysis to follow.

This sounds similar to some of the Ukraine Doctor reports.

Among 899 patients admitted to hospitals with confirmed, probable, or suspected 2009 influenza A(H1N1), 58 became critically ill. The critically ill patients had a median (midpoint) age of 44 years. Most were treated with antibiotics, and 45 patients were treated with anti-influenza drugs known as neuraminidase inhibitors, including oseltamivir and zanamivir. Fifty-four patients required mechanical ventilation.

"Our analysis of critically ill patients with 2009 influenza A(H1N1) reveals that this disease affected a young patient group," the authors write. "Fever and respiratory symptoms were harbingers of disease in almost all cases. There was a relatively long period of illness prior to presentation to the hospital, followed by a short period of acute and severe respiratory deterioration."

By 60 days, 24 of the critically ill patients (41.4 percent) died. Nineteen patients died within the first two weeks after becoming critically ill.

"Patients who died had greater initial severity of illness, worse hypoxemia [abnormally low levels of oxygen in the blood], higher creatinine kinase levels, higher creatinine levels, and ongoing organ dysfunction," the authors report

These data suggest that  Dr. Victor Bachinsky's "new virus" was in fact A/H1N1.  This RBD region is responsible for sever lung hemmorhaging.  The San Paulo strains have this same mutation as do new ones from China and Australia.

These data also suggest that we are seeing the results of recombination and not antigenic shifts caused by genetic drift.  It is a significant development.

Whether we will see a second wave with this variant as a major component remains to be seen.  If it does become dominant, I suspect we will see it again in Belarus, Russia and the Scandinavian countries.  Maybe it will be seen in France later when it is colder.

To me it seems to be H1N1 and it is followinga similiar progression to the Spanish Flu. Being that it is colder and has less sun in the Ukraine than here it makes me wonder what is going to happen here. It does however sound like modern medicine will make a huge difference compared to 1918.

Ukrainian Globalist: Swine flu - the number of victims in Ukraine grows up every hour

Ukrainian authorities hide the true information about swine flu in the country. Number of registered flu and ARVI accidents grew up in 2.5 times – Tymoshenko said. But it is not the real situation. Real number of victims is much higher. Doctors say, that more than 1000 people has already died of flu in Ukraine. Some hours ago the Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko has informed, that the number of registered flu and ARVI cases in Ukraine in Nov. 8-10 has grown up again more than in 2.5 times. Experts suppose about more than 2 million flu diseased. Read the story here.

It is useless to resist (in the words of Orville- 1984) certain individuals are on the persona non grata list of being unreliable and well- unhealthy to the site.

IMHO it is a mixed bag in that while there have been some real unconfirmed posts-I find the current sequence aberration confirmatory. This is an instance where science versus spin.

Sadly this is spin in terms of one scientist who is not totally credible and now a new emerging single coroner in Russia who has 100 to one reports to his - its not pneumonic plague mutation.

We have no way of verifying this mutation except for a series of conspiracy blogs and a pair of questionable scientists.

The N word is not spoken here as well as any link to it. As a new comer you are not aware of this. Competing c_hat sites are blocked and even the word is automatically starred and no links are allowed to them. Those are the  rules here in Dodge. Like in the Highlander- there is only one. Those of us who have other sites cannot post links to them. I once could- for pictures- but no more. Some are allow avatars here- some are not. I have a picture of myself I cannot upload or use.

In this case there is a bit of genetics in this and connecting it to Brazil basically blows a big hole in the CDC statement it has not mutated where the vaccine EVERYONE is supposed to take will work well.  It my not. I tracked the mutation of a strand variance in Brazil and have posted at least 4 mutations (ignored)

Also and a bigger consideration- this is a deperate attempt to explain away what 100 test show to be pneumonic plague as H1N1. This is the key spin of the Ukranian .gov.  We have military transmissions to body carriers and to the Ukranian fleet who is deadly ill with something else.

It is not H1N1. If so- it has mutated despite the denial of CDC and our vaccine may not work against a mean lung bleeder. This ruins a lot of parties.  You can't have it both ways except if you state without basis- it is not enough of a mutation to change things. A room full of bloody lungs from cadavers seems to have changed things. If we get this here- the CFR will go way up.

It may be either a completely different bug or a bacteria. This does not stop the relentless effort to flood the net with misinformation as it will spread to other countries, become Pandemic, and hit here in the U.S. maybe soon or by March.

This does not reflect what anyone one wants to hear or for others to hear.

These alleged mutations have been put up here, but IMHO we don't have a mutation. We have another disease.

I am inclined to agree with you that there is a second underlying pandamic starting.  Like the first one I am also leaning toward a lab created virus or bacteria.  Furthermore, I think it is being spread at night by the low flying planes, which are reported to  be spraying an unknown substance.  If this is the case, then the second underlying pandamic may not be able to spread efficiently since it has to be sprayed at night to infect an area.

The following is not reported as fact but hearsay.

First, I was not aware that the worlds's premier gene database,GISAID, requires its users to NOT discuss sequencing details without permission.  Furthermore, they have directed that GISAID users cannot post details on the Ukraine sequences.  The following is an email response from a genetic researcher to the author of a website devoted to H1N1 sequencing details.
Quote
A response sent via email by NS1 -

"Our framework suggests that PF11 is an Enhanced Acquisition virus, a very different trait than what we can discern from the limited group of 1918 sequences against which our study-specific comment was compared. We are forced to use non-identifying language concerning GISAID sequences because no one at this time appears to have permission from NIMR to reference the details. We do incline the reader toward our previous Ukraine expectations study, but do not specifically identify the polymorphisms from the recent deposit.

Though the changes were predicted and, thus, expected, we certainly do not discount the importance of them. We wouldn’t be on the edge of our seats paying attention to this genetic area if the matter weren’t of supreme importance. Of equal importance to the 225 change is another potential epitope revision that is silent and signatory to all 10 published Ukraine sequences in an area that has movement inside the PF11 reservoir on record distantly upstream of the 225 protein.

Our analysis has been updated with additional information that we believe may be shared within our GISAID agreement. A substantial number of sequences are available there which define a pattern (in most geographies) not well characterised at GenBank. Please bear with us as we teach what we are allowed to surface.

What does the protein change that has been reported for the Ukraine mean? Questions may be asked, but 10 of only 15 sequences are not a basis for conclusion and certainly not for extrapolation. Some is well-founded, but incomplete, and much is highly speculative."

I posted the above on GISAID because I do believe we have a new H1N1 mutation in Ukraine.  As a result, many gov and research organizations are very scared.  We are being fed misinformation and reports of mutations are being supressed or removed.

The big question is whether the Ukraine variant will become dominant.  This research paper suggests that it will because it is similar to NEWYORK1918 and A/London/1/1919.  To scan the relevant areas in the attached post easily press cntrl F on your internet explorer browser and search for 225.

No worries. I can go public with any info via News Wires from swineflu.org.  If a severe second wave is headed our way, believe me, we can alert the public whether various governments like it or not.  Give me evidence of this, and I will bring the world spotlight on it.

Albert,
Please do because my husband and myself were just discussing this issue and are very concerned.  There is absolutely nothing here in NY  in the news at all about what is going on in the Ukraine or Poland.

I do not wish to be alarmist Albert but I feel it is my duty to report this bulletin out of North Carolina Medical Society:
Quote Physicians Asked to be on the Lookout for Possible “Hemorrhagic Pneumonia Cases”

Among Influenza Patients

The CDC says that there have been some anecdotal reports of possible "hemorrhagic pneumonia" cases among influenza patients who have died or been hospitalized for severe illness. The phrase "hemorrhagic pneumonia" is somewhat outdated, and most clinicians will not use the term to describe this condition, which can be a very rare complication of viral respiratory infection. Some other terms that can be used to
describe this include diffuse alveolar hemorrhage (DAH), which can be caused by infections but doesn't have to be, and hemorrhagic pneumonitis. In any event, it's a serious complication that will sometimes lead to acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). It occurs very rarely as a complication of seasonal influenza, and there is some concern that it might be more common in H1N1 infections.

The CDC is asking state health officials to look out for possible cases that may involve clusters of patients who might have these symptoms, or a large proportion of cases with these symptoms (e.g., 4 of 5 deaths). They will invariably be among the most severely ill influenza patients (i.e., deaths, ICU patients).

This is a hard diagnosis to make, and the most telling symptom may be hemoptysis (bloody sputum, frothy bloody cough), although not all cases will have it.

• Acute onset of rather more severe respiratory infection (dyspnea‐‐ difficulty
breathing‐‐ is common)
• Hemoptysis is often seen on initial presentation (~70% of cases)
• CXR and physical exam will suggest alveolar infiltrates (radiographic opacities)
• Diagnosis is usually made by BAL (brochoalveolar lavage) and pathology testing
(increasingly more hemorrhagic fluid/secretions from sequential BAL
Email sent by the Regional Liaison Officer, Region IV, H1N1 Response Surveillance and
Epidemiology Team, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
Questions concerning possible cases or this email may be directed to Medical Epidemiologist

Zach Moore, MD, at the North Carolina Division of Public health at zach.moore@dhhs.nc.gov.

Okay, it doesn't sound good. But answer me this...
I know the world population is getting bigger but why cull the world population SO violently?
What is wrong with enforced birth control (China's model) or subtle sterilisation? They could have started this in the 70s.
How are countries going to recover from this awful recession when most of their workers are either ill or dead? Are Govt.s in on this? I take it the poor survivors are gonna have to pay almost half their wages on taxes to pay for everything?
Who will buy Big Pharma's products if we are mostly ill or dead and unable to use their stuff (Big Pharma LOVES our money)?
