DALLAS (CN) - Texas wants a second patient "reasonably suspected of being infected" with Ebola put into protective custody in Dallas.
Dr. David L. Lakey, commissioner of the Texas Department of State Health Services, filed a motion for a temporary order of protective custody Monday in Dallas County Court.
The unidentified patient, sued as "M.W.L.," is "reasonably suspected of being infected with a communicable disease (Ebola) that presents an immediate threat to public health," the 4-page motion states.
"Further, movant has determined that proposed patient is a threat to himself or others if not immediately restrained. Further, sources charged with monitoring the proposed patient M.W.L. have observed the proposed patient failing or refusing to follow the written order of the Texas Department of State Health Services by leaving the premises of a medical facility contrary to medical directives, without permission and surreptitiously."
Lakey claims that the proposed patient "meets the criteria authorized by the court" to issue such an order.
"The sworn representations of the applicant, who is a credible person, state that the proposed patient is reasonably suspected of being infected with the communicable disease, Ebola, that presents a threat to public health; has failed or refused to follow the written or verbal orders of the Commissioner; and presents a substantial risk of harm to himself or others if no immediately restrained," according to the motion, filed Monday at 2 p.m.
Lakey wants the patient kept under constant guard at Parkland Hospital, Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas or any other appropriate facility.
Presbyterian is treating Thomas Eric Duncan, a Liberian, who is the first confirmed domestic case of Ebola .
The hospital has come under heavy criticism for releasing Duncan with only antibiotics on Sept. 26 and failing to flag his travel history for Ebola. He was hospitalized two days later when he developed symptoms consistent with the disease.
Duncan flew to Dallas from West Africa in September to visit his family.
Dallas County on Oct. 1 ordered Duncan's family into isolation at their Dallas apartment under armed guards.
The family has been relocated to another home and the apartment was decontaminated over the weekend.

FRISCO (CSBDFW.COM) - An afternoon news conference has been called in Frisco, a suburb of Dallas, to discuss a possible second case of Ebola.

Complete Coverage Of Ebola In Dallas

The call came in shortly after noon from Care Now, 301 Main Street, where the patient was “exhibiting signs and symptoms of Ebola.”

CBS 11 has confirmed that the patient checked yes to one of the screening questions regarding travel to West Africa. The facility is in contact with the Centers for Disease Control and is holding everyone in the facility until receiving clearance from the CDC. The patient is being transported to a nearby hospital by Frisco firefighter-paramedics.

First responders are also examining clinical staff and other patients. It is unknown how many other people may have been exposed to the patient.

The news conference will be held at 3:30 pm at Frisco’s Central Fire Station. CBSDFW will stream it live.

This is a developing story. CBS 11 News will have more information as it is available.

I knew it was just a matter of time. This patient has a much better chance of survival though with blood transfusion and experimental drugs.
Dr.Shinn believes those with Tubercin/Welme may be the ticket. Check out this website on this drug. www.artec-inc.net Get the word to the CDC,and FDA please...

Fox News and others are reporting that Dallas, Texas may have a second case of Ebola.

According to Fox, a person who came into contact with Thomas Eric Duncan has been monitored and is now showing symptoms of the deadly virus.

No other details were available.

Update: Ebola case #2 — still unconfirmed — is apparently in Frisco, north of Dallas.

Good grief. The cdc is inept. New flash -- if you want all the contacts -- talk to his gf and partner on crime. Duncan got off plane, went to aptmt, and they all probably partied. The gf is covering up personal contacts. Really quite astounding that they don't know what they're dealing with with this bunch.

May have been the homeless man? So the articles in this thread are 2 separate incidents?

Not sure if the first article is the homeless man. The homeless man was supposedly "low risk". According to that article, the person was "reasonably suspected of being infected with a communicable disease (Ebola) that presents an immediate threat to public health,". Hard to tell.

Update at 2:49 p.m.: A vehicle cordoned off in the CareNow parking lot is registered to a Dallas County sheriff’s deputy who went into Thomas Eric Duncan’s apartment last week, according to a story that appeared on WFAA’s website earlier this week.

And our colleagues at KXAS-TV (NBC 5) have confirmed that the person in the ambulance is an employee with the Dallas County Sheriff’s Department.

Update at 2:30 p.m. from Eva-Marie Ayala: The CareNow is on the Denton County side of Frisco. As the clinic serves those in both both Denton and Collin counties, officials from both will monitoring the situation.

Collin County Judge Ketih Self said he was informed of the situation and understands about 13 people were at the clinic when the patient was there. He said he is uncertain where the patient lived or any other details.

“We don’t know what the situation is just yet,” Self said, noting that law enforcement was at the clinic to help assist.

Update at 2:11 p.m.: The patient, dressed in shorts and wearing a surgical mask and a plastic head covering, just walked out of the facility and into the ambulance, which had been covered in plastic. That patient will likely transported to Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas, where Thomas Eric Duncan was hospitalized.

We are working to determine if this person is among the 48 people the Centers for Disease Control is monitoring. So far there has been no comment from the CDC, which already had a 3 p.m. press conference scheduled.

There are also conflicting reports concerning the patient. Frisco officials earlier said he claimed to have had contact with Thomas Eric Duncan, but Care Now says he told them he’d been to Africa.

Update at 2 p.m.: Frisco paramedics, dressed in protective gear, are preparing to transport the patient to a hospital. It’s unclear which one.

Original post at 1:49 p.m.: This just in from Dana Baird, Frisco’s director of communications and media relations:

At 12:32 p.m. today, October 8, Frisco dispatch received a call from Care Now, 301 Main Street, regarding a patient exhibiting signs and symptoms of Ebola. The patient claims to have had contact with the Dallas ‘patient zero’. Frisco firefighter-paramedics are in the process of transporting the patient. They are also in the process of examining clinical staff and other facility patrons. That number other people impacted is unknown. No other information is confirmed, available at this time.

A news conference is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. TODAY.

Something's not right. Unless I read that wrong. First I read that the person in the ambulance is a deputy who was in the apartment. Then I read that it was someone who said they were in Africa.

Wondering if there are multiple cases.

It should be noted: This is not a confirmed case of Ebola. It is not known if this person did indeed have contact with Duncan, who died this morning at Presbyterian Hospital. And health officials have yet to say anything concerning the Frisco call.

Updates, of course, are they are made available.

We will carry the press conference at 3:30 p.m.

Second ebola suspect (per CDC) no contact with ebola or definite symptoms of ebola. Only 1 patient diagnosed with ebola in the US and that individual tragically died. Tracing the other 48 people.. 10 definite and 38 possible contacts... none with symptoms.

From TSW, ebolainfo.org, "Paramedics... " thread:
"Update at 3:45 p.m.:

"The patient has been identified by his family as sheriff’s Deputy Michael Monnig.

The man’s son said his father had been monitoring his temperature since last week and went to the clinic out of an abundance of caution, our Eva-Marie Ayala reports.

“We don’t want to cause a panic,” Logan Monnig said. “There is almost no chance my dad would have Ebola.”

The deputy told his family he had stomach pain and fatigue. Because the symptoms came after a visit to Duncan’s apartment, he decided to play it safe.

“He spent very little time in the apartment,” his son said, “and he did not come in contact with Mr. Duncan or any bodily fluids.” "

The man’s son said his father had been monitoring his temperature since last week and went to the clinic out of an abundance of caution, our Eva-Marie Ayala reports.

OMG did i miss something or didn't Duncan complain oh stomach pain before they sent him home on the 24th?? I am quite sure i read that. And the spanish nurse complained of fatigue.
