COUNTRY/REGION India Event According to the Indian Health Ministry, a total of 2278 cases of swine flu (H1N1) have been reported nationwide between January 1 and mid-February. According to reports, at least 370 associated deaths have been confirmed. The National Center for Disease Control (NCDC) indicated at least 770 cases were recorded over a ten-day period ending on February 18. Context Influenza is a contagious virus that can spread from human to human. Symptoms include high fever, aching muscles, headache, and respiratory issues. Particularly vulnerable individuals include young children, elderly persons, pregnant women, and individuals suffering from chronic diseases. A seasonal vaccine is available. Advice Individuals are advised to take preventive measures to minimize the risk of contracting or spreading the disease, including frequent handwashing and/or use of antibacterial gel, sneezing and coughing into one's elbow, avoiding contact with individuals presenting flu-like symptoms (as well as avoiding contact with others when ill), and seeking medical attention in the event of a fever over 38°C (100°F), severe coughing, and sore throat or difficulty breathing.
