The https://www.nivel.nl/en Netherlands Institute for
Health Services Research (DJ-Via google translate) https://www.nivel.nl/nl/nieuws/griepsurveillance-van-het-nivel-uitgebreid-met-de-monitoring-van-het-coronavirus Nivel flu surveillance extended with corona virus monitoring In China there is an outbreak of a new corona virus. Most patients have fever and respiratory complaints. The chance of the virus spreading is also present in the Netherlands. That is why Nivel, in collaboration with the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM), is expanding flu surveillance. Patients with flu-like symptoms are registered with the help of the 40 Nivel Monitoring stations; samples from these patients are now also being tested by the RIVM for the presence of the corona virus. It is important to start monitoring the new corona virus before the virus actually circulates in the Netherlands. However, as long as there is no outbreak, the virus is unlikely to be found. Fast switching when coronavirus occurs If a patient with the corona virus is nevertheless detected, the own doctor will report this to the GGD. The RIVM and the GGD can then quickly take measures to prevent spread. Flu surveillance: a collaboration between Nivel and RIVM The Nivel Monitoring Stations - 40 primary care practices of Nivel Primary Care Registrations - have been supplying weekly data for national flu surveillance since 1970. A number of patients for whom the Sentinel Stations have registered flu-like symptoms are being further investigated by the RIVM for the presence of various flu and cold viruses. The symptoms of the new coronavirus resemble those of the flu and are now also included in these studies. Online every week: the results of the flu surveillance The results of the Nivel and RIVM flu surveillance are published weekly on the Nivel website. As long as there is no circulation of the new coronavirus in the Netherlands, it is not useful to state the negative test results herein. DJ-Seems like a good step ! No nCov-cases in the Netherlands is "unexpected" since we are "central in Europe"and neighbour countries all have cases. |

Now this is 'good thinking'! If all countries automatically tested for this - I think we'd find out there is a heck of a lot more asymptomatic spreaders walking around then we realize.
I feel a lot of ppl are still just being counted as the flu if no direct w/china - here at least. |
