Oops!  News from the first roll out of the vaccine in the UK

Quote

People with a history of significant allergic reactions should not have the new Covid jab, regulators say.

It came after two NHS workers had allergic reactions on Tuesday.

The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) said the advice applies to anyone who has had significant reactions to medicines, food or vaccines.

This puts me back on the fence regarding my wife, who has in the past had reactions to the flu vaccine (although I would class it as mild rather than "significant", ie a couple of days with fever).

This is quite normal for vaccines.  People do have reactions - shows it is working - and a few have severe ones.

Like everything else in life, it is a ballance of risks.  So unless your wife has a history of anaphalyxis, you have no additional worries.

Thanks Techno... as I was typing the first comments I realised that her reactions were mild, but sometimes stating things "out loud" helps the thought process (and for me to calm down)

It's being said that if you carry an epi-pen - then best to opt out of the vaccine.

One of my sister's developed Bell's Palsy after her flu jab, so I think she should opt out also.

As for me, I am ready and willing to take the jab!

Thanks for that "rule of thumb".  It looks like we will be OK.

I got my first shot (Moderna) two days ago with a group of coworkers. We’re all doing fine, but my arm is really sore. It’s worse today than yesterday, but I’m glad my employer finally sorted it out.

There have been reports of reactions here in San Diego, but I don’t believe any of them resulted in anything serious.

My cousin had the Pfizer jab and was really ill with flu like symptoms for 8 days, but this is because she's a nurse in the UK and had previously had Covid. Apparently it's quite common to react badly if you've had it.

Those who got it wrong, for whatever reason, may feel defensive and retrench into a position that doesn’t accord with the facts.

So I know a few more people who've had the jab and are fine. 2 elderly relatives have had the Oxford Astra Zeneca jab and are feeling absolutely fine, and another elderly relative has had the Pfizer jab and is feeling great, doesn't even have a sore arm. All are in the UK. The only side effect they've reported is that of relief, they are delighted to have finally had their first shots. All are due to have their second in mid April.
