Interesting news.....up to two days before nasal swabs could detect...

Oh $hit...  Do I now have to bend over for a swab?

EdwinSm, to answer your last question; Yes...anal swabs (a.o. in China) did do much better in detecting CoViD-19 then nose/mouth...Allthough not all studies agree on that; https://bmjopengastro.bmj.com/content/8/1/e000590 or https://bmjopengastro.bmj.com/content/8/1/e000590Conclusion Anal swab specimen has low sensitivity (36.7%) but high specificity (93.8%) for detecting SARS-CoV-2 antigen by RT-PCR. Only one additional positive result was found by anal swab among the nasopharyngeal swab-negative group. Anal swab may not be needed as an additional test at the beginning of a patient’s diagnostic investigation and nasopharyngeal swab RT-PCR remains as the standard diagnostic test for COVID-19.

But https://www.reuters.com/article/us-health-coronavirus-china-anal-factbox-idUSKBN2AV0Y4 or https://www.reuters.com/article/us-health-coronavirus-china-anal-factbox-idUSKBN2AV0Y4Such tests can ensure infections are spotted, since coronavirus traces can be detectable in the anus for longer than in the respiratory tract, some Chinese doctors told state media.

DJ I think anal swabs may be used as an extra;

-if nose/mouth swabs test negative but clear CoVid symptoms in the patient

-in severe cases when nose/mouth are needed for breathing/ventilating

-in testing for (several) variants that may not be detected in the upper respitory system

The idea I get is anal testing-just like sewage control-may provide better info on variants...The major problem is "politics does not want to know"...

We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.
