Is anyone concerned about the potential for our supply chain to get stretched to its breaking point now that Omicron is a factor? My husband and I have been talking about how the nation is already facing supply chain issues — what if people panic and we see a repeat of empty shelves like when Covid first hit our nation (the U.S.). Could that snap some already delicate threads? We went out today to re-supply a few holes in our pantry. There were big holes in certain places in Sam’s Club (especially in fresh meats). I hope you’re all doing well…I head back to the classroom with my 24 students on Monday — gracious me! There is no social distancing in our school, it’s just not possible with our class sizes. *sigh* |

I had a hard time finding short grain rice in particular at both Sprouts and Whole Foods. When I did find some, I grabbed enough to fill my rice container. Only short grain rice was missing though. |

We have gaps here on the shelves but it's becoming a way of life now. I go to some small local shops and have been for years, and one shop I go into I know the owners by name and always stop to chat with them, and they've taken to tipping me off if something has come back into stock, which is really kind of them. By this method I was able to buy enough prunes to make 3 Christmas cakes, and prunes have not been available here for 3 or 4 months now. They had one box arrive, so I was very grateful about that. |

Those who got it wrong, for whatever reason, may feel defensive and retrench into a position that doesn’t accord with the facts.

We have a few gaps to fill as well, mostly paper products. We had caps on what we could buy this past week locally (mostly due to Thanksgiving Holiday). Thankfully we have some hogs ready to go to the butcher this week, so freezer will be back to the top. And still have a herd of goats, lots of meat on the hoof :) After reading some of the info DJ posted, and weeding through it, we decided to rank up our preparedness posture. |

Not a real necessity at all...but I subscribe to two different "HOME DECOR" subscripton boxes (my passion is interior design)....and we have recieved notice that our boxes are sitting in Long Beach, CA on container ships either out in the ocean or waiting in port...the Christmas boxes might not arrive on time this year for decorating. |

Still no real gaps here in NYC. However, I don't shop at Walmart, Target, Costco or the other "big box" stores. They depend on cheap imports to keep their prices low. Also, Newark which is a main port for the east coast isn't having the problems California is having. |

Had the furnace guys here today, haven’t had hot water. Naturally it wasn’t a adjustment here or there, the coil needs replacement. They don’t have the part in stock, two weeks they tell me. I guess I’ll finesse sponge baths! |
