I've just watched the latest Dr John Campbell video. It's excellent and all about Omicron and he says that according to Dr Phil Spectre the numbers are doubling every 2 - 3 days and at this rate the whole of the UK will be exposed to it by 25 Dec. JC says that at the moment it appears mild but even if only a quarter of people get sick with it, that will overwhelm the medical facilities in the UK and if it turns out to be nastier than that, then the consequences don't bear thinking about. Of all the times of the year for this variant to come along, this is the worse. Almost everyone meets up with friends and family at Christmas and many people travel long distances for it. This could turn out to be disasterous. |

KiwiMum...I decided to "ignore"Dr.J.C. because I see him as over-optimistic....(Also taking to much time often-with to limited extra info....I make-at least for now-my own selection in the ocean of info...). |

Well he did have the grace to say that if Omicron was less than mild the results would be terrible. I agree, he is a bit over optimistic, particularly in light of the time of year and that everyone mingles more. It will spread much more quickly because of the movements of people. |

Dr Campbell 's vlogs are informative. For example, he too sounded the alarm back in January 2020 that pandemic was imminent. Some people laughed. His recent vlogs, I feel have turned a tad away from optimism. Though he hopes Omicron will be milder, he inserts the usual caveats. Yesterday s vlog was a little less optimistic i thought. He voiced genuine concerns about the massive potential swamping effect and fallout, etc. When you look at NHS UK, for example, it often struggles with the usual serious cases of annual flu in Winter, so obviously, ICU capacity becomes stretched. |

"Omicron couldn't have picked a worse time of year" Oh dear, my children are booked to fly in for Christmas. My wife and I haven't seen them since before the first outbreak began, that is Christmas two years ago. I wonder if they will have to cancel at the last minute. If they have to cancel, I wonder if they will ever get to see their mother again. She (the mother) is to start respite care tomorrow - that will be at first one day a week (7 hours), but that drastically increases her chance of being infected by being outside of our two person bubble, but then caring 24/7 365 days year for someone with dementia is just too much on my own. With dementia there are no good choices only aiming for the least bad ones. ps. Sorry this is not continuing the discussion of Dr Campbell's vlog, but in my defense it follows the subject line - so if a mod wants to move it to another thread then go ahead. |

Dr. JC is a force for good in the world. He is however an optimist and someone who is aiming at the broad youtube membership. I watched him since January of 2020. I find his reasoning good. |

EdwinSm, I think-for humanitarian reasons-there should remain "some ways" of people having a last chance to meet....Maybe children can get a chance to visit when a parent may not be there that long....(right post-right place !) |

I'm so sorry. And agree with DJ, perfect place for this. I pray they're able to visit safely. Is driving a possible back up option??? Apologies for not knowing where they live if you've posted about it before. |

I'm so sorry to hear about your wife. My mother battled dementia for nearly 10 years and spent the last few in a care home because my father, in his 80s, just couldn't cope and their house was not able to be modified for downstairs showering etc. It's a terrible disease, truly terrible. I hope your children do get to visit for Christmas. I say from experience that's it's so important for these visits to take place while they still can, and while your wife can still recognise everyone. |

Oh and get this....IN colorado, I live in the only county that instituted their own health department so they could cancel the mask mandate. It started today. 7 days of school left, kids don't have to wear masks, and the big O is out there! Ugh! |

I saw a lady in the supermarket a week ago with a homemade clear facemask on. I think she had made it using that clear plastic often seen on packaging and using foam draught excluder tape from the DIY store, and then a bit of elastic to go around her ears. |

DJ - I finally thought to search for these using the brand name - Amazon has them here. So much going on in my head the easiest solution didn't occur to me until this morning! |

I went to the produce market this morning and met a woman in the carpark wearing a very unusual completely transparent face mask. The brand is Swiss Color Mask and they are available online. She paid $18 for hers. |

KiminNM I hope you do get your masks in time ! Glad to help someone ! KiwiMum talking about pricing may be a good point...DIY/home tests I did read selling in the US for crazy prices...I pay around 3€ for atest...If I buy more in once price may be getting close to 2€....Since a lot of stores sell them...all supermarkets, lots of other shops (proberbly even at most gas-stations !) growing demand did not influence the price much...More of those tests did get imported.... Transportation has become a global issue otherwise - for some products - the international internet market may be a good one if you need to buy a lot of products. However you need to check the seller...compare prices with other webshops in that country...because there is a lot of internet crime going on ! |
