CDC report shows 79% of omicron cases are vaccinated; nearly all are mildNew data released by the CDC shows who omicron is impacting. Of 43 cases reported the first week of December:
https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/70/wr/mm7050e1.htm HOUSTON — It’s been one week since the first case of the omicron variant was detected in the Houston area. Now it makes up 15% of positive COVID cases at Houston Methodist. The Houston Health Department said Monday the omicron variant has now been found in 25 of the city's 39 wastewater treatment plants. |

I would like an updated definition of "mild". At the beginning of this, "mild" included pneumonia! Basically if you didn't have to be admitted to the hospital it was referred to as "mild" by the CDC. |

I understand it-in most cases-may take up to +two weeks before a positive test can result in hospitalization...So-yes most people testing positive-did have only mild symptoms...Would be welcome if it stayed that way... High % of vaccinated case is-just as "it is only mild"-not good news...I wonder what the patterns may become-are hosts with higher level of (antibody) immunity overrepresented ? |

DJ-https://www.reuters.com/article/factcheck-politician-omicron-idUSL1N2SU218 or https://www.reuters.com/article/factcheck-politician-omicron-idUSL1N2SU218 ; Cannon does not speak about antibody dependent enhancement or anything similar in the clip or the entire speech. He is merely postulating that the COVID-19 vaccine might not be effective against the Omicron variant of the virus. I simply do not know enough of all of this...so-again-I am not an expert-just trying to form an opinion...https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/COVID-19_vaccine_misinformation_and_hesitancy#Antibody-dependent_enhancement or https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/COVID-19_vaccine_misinformation_and_hesitancy#Antibody-dependent_enhancement ; Antibody-dependent enhancement (ADE) is the phenomenon in which a person with antibodies against one virus (i.e. from infection or vaccination) can develop worse disease when infected by a second closely-related virus, due to a unique and rare reaction with proteins on the surface of the second virus.[52][53] ADE has been observed in animal studies during the development of past coronavirus[which?] vaccines, but as of 18 March 2021 there had been no observed incidences in human vaccine trials.[54] ADE has been observed in vitro and in animal studies with many different viruses that do not display ADE in humans.[55][52] Molecular simulations indicate that ADE might play a role in new strains such as delta, but none in the strains that the vaccines were originally designed for.[1]. Anti-vaccination activists cited ADE as a reason to avoid vaccination against COVID-19.[28][56] DJ In my very limited understanding of how this virus may develop I think it may be possible something like ADE may-one bad day-be the final outcome. Immunity (both vaccine and post-infection(s) pushing variant selection that way... For now the mix of vaccines, limiting contacts to the minimum, semi-lockdown (war economy) and at least keep some testing/sequencing going in my-non expert-eyes may be the best we have...If we no longer can stop infections second "line of defense" as good as possible treatments ? Better suggestions more then welcome ! |
