https://southfront.org/iranian-forces-strike-back-rocket-attacks-hit-two-us-bases-in-syrias-deir-ezzor/ or https://southfront.org/iranian-forces-strike-back-rocket-attacks-hit-two-us-bases-in-syrias-deir-ezzor/

Late on August 24, two bases of the US-led coalition in the northeastern Syrian governorate of Deir Ezzor came under attack.

A number of rockets targeted the Conoco gas plant base in the eastern Deir Ezzor countryside as well as the Green Village base in the al-Omar oil fields in the southeastern countryside of the governorate. No casualties or material losses were reported. The coalition is yet to release a statement on the attacks.

Following the attacks, US-led coalition warplanes were spotted flying over both the Conoco gas plant and the Green Village.

The attacks were reportedly carried out by Iranian-backed Syrian and Iraqi forces in Deir Ezzor as a response to the August 23 US strikes on their positions.

Four F-16s and four F-15s carried out the strikes. The fighter jets hit nine positions of Iranian-backed forces near the town of Ayyash in the northern Deir Ezzor countryside with nine precision-guided bombs. The exact results of the airstrikes are yet to be revealed.

The US strikes were meant to deter Iranian-backed forces who were accused of carrying out the August 15 attacks, which targeted the US-led coalition’s Green Village base and al-Tanf garrison in the southeastern Syrian area of al-Tanf.

Iranian-backed forces in Deir Ezzor remain undeterred as proven by the new attacks on the US-led coalition’s bases in the Conoco gas plant and the Green Village. The coalition could escalate further in the upcoming few days in an attempt to draw a red line.

The US claims that its forces are present in Syria only to combat ISIS. However, they occupy key oil and gas facilities in the northeastern region of the country and block the strategic Damascus-Baghdad highway in the southeastern region.

DJ Both Iraq and Syria do not want US military in their country...The US did create IS to have an "excuse-enemy" to be fighting...with western support...

 UPDATE  8:16 PM EDT --

The Russian Duma has called a "Special Meeting" . . .

The last time that happened, was February 23, one day before the Special Military Operation in Ukraine began.

RUMORS and SPECULATION are running rampant.   Intel circuits fearing Duma to either Declare Ukraine a "state sponsor of terrorism" or . . . .

Prolonging the conflict in Ukraine is the worst alternative for all sides.

Written by Lucas Leiroz, researcher in Social Sciences at the Rural Federal University of Rio de Janeiro; geopolitical consultant.

Anyone who really understands war and military strategy knows that there is no other solution than the neutralization of Ukraine and the end of Western expansionism. Those who think through liberal idealism, however, advocate fighting “to the last Ukrainian”.

Prolonging the conflict is not good for either side: it increases the destruction in Ukraine, perpetuates the suffering of the people, raises the expenses of western countries and forces Russia to mobilize a greater part of its military forces.

DJ-US has a problem with gun-violence inside their borders...is it also "exporting" its gun-violence to the world ? Wars are NOT normal ! The west has done a lot of damage in history...it should learn from its mistakes !

DJ,

Hal Turner may not be "the best of sources" but sometimes he may provide decent info (certainly compared with msm...)

The Hal Turner Radio Show received an email overnight which read as follows:

DJ, Some indications Ukraine Army close to breaking with pro-Russian forces making progress near Nikolayev, in the south, Donbas-eastern Ukraine and Charkov in the north...

Military Summary  (I think or was it AM) in his latest update mentioned a Russian flag hanging in Odessa. Nikolayev had a food crisis. Ukraine forces trying to get "men" for its fighting...but most "men" do not want to die for the Kiev-puppets...so trying to enforce people into the war may push for uprisings against the Kiev-junta...

Most Ukrainians voted-not long ago-for Zelensky to make a deal with Russia; peace...not war !

-Syria;

Several #US air strikes have been conducted in Al-Mayadin, Deir Ez Zor in the last hour. Unconfirmed reports mention the direct targeting of trucks/vehicles related/affiliated to #IRGC proxies in the region.

Rocket strikes have hit US-occupied military bases in eastern Syria, injuring at least three American service members, reports say.

The official Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) said several rockets targeted bases that are run by US occupation force at the al-Omar and Koniko oilfields in the countryside of the city of Dayr al-Zawr.

"One US military service member suffered a minor injury and two others are being evaluated for minor injuries following [the] rocket attacks," Reuters reported, citing the US military.

A plume of smoke was seen rising out of the area, SANA added. The occupying American forces have "closed the area," the civilian sources noted, saying American aircraft had started staging extensive flights over the area.

The rocket attacks came after American warplanes carried out a fresh airstrike in Dayr al-Zawr in the wee hours of the day.

In June several Ukrainian officials admitted that their army had some 700 or even more casualties per day. The numbers were played up to gain access to more 'western' weapons. Since then Ukrainian officials have stated much lower totals of killed and wounded than make sense.

The lowball casualty numbers now are probably convenient to increase moral in Ukraine and to hide from its supporters the inevitable defeat that the Ukrainian army will experience.

This report must be seen in that light.

Russia Hits Train Station in Deadly Attack on Ukraine’s Independence DayNew York Times

A Russian missile hit a train station in eastern Ukraine, killing at least 22 people, President Volodymyr Zelensky said Wednesday, in an attack that came as Ukraine celebrated its Independence Day and brought home the harsh reality of the six-month-old war.

The attack, which took place in an area about 74 miles east of the city of Dnipro in Ukraine-controlled territory, was one of the deadliest strikes on the country’s railways since April, when more than 50 people were killed when a rocket slammed into a crowded railway platform in eastern Ukraine.

The previous attack on a train station which killed some 50 people in Kramatorsk was done with a Ukrainian Tochka-U missile fired from a position under Ukrainian control. Since 2019 the Russian military no longer uses Tochka-U missiles. They have been completely replaced with the more effective Iskander missiles. (A month ago the Donetsk People's Republic was said to have received some old Tochka's for counter battery fire against the Ukrainian units that fire at Donetsk city.)

Now lets look at yesterday's attack which happened near the Chaplino railway station in the Dnepropetrovsk region.

Direct attacks on trains or train stations have been quite unusual in this war. A few months ago there were some night attacks on trains in the western regions of Ukraine hitting at weapon transports that had come in from the 'west'. But an attack with high casualty numbers is unusual. Russia must have been sure that the train transported military and not civilian stuff.

That huge attack 'killed at least 22 people'?

Each of the carriages has 10 larger windows each for a compartment that sits six passengers. Additional people may stand or sit in the aisle. At least four carriages were destroyed. If the train has been reasonably full it carried more than 300 passengers. 22 killed is thereby a quite low estimate. In reality there were probably several hundreds casualties.

Here is what the Russian military now says:

An Iskander missile has hit a military train at Chaplino railway station in Dnepropetrovsk Region, destroying over 200 AFU servicemen reserve and 10 units of military equipment on their way to Donbass war zone.

That estimate of casualties of the attack on the Armed Forces of Ukraine sounds more reasonable to me.

DJ, The attack on the train made also NL news...what-of course-NOT got mentioned is that it was a military train...

https://www.zerohedge.com/geopolitical/escobar-geopolitical-tectonic-plates-shifting-six-months or https://www.zerohedge.com/geopolitical/escobar-geopolitical-tectonic-plates-shifting-six-months

A consistent analysis of Putin’s public interventions these past few months reveals that the Kremlin – as well as Security Council Yoda Nikolai Patrushev – fully realize how the politico/media goons and shock troops of the collective West are dictated by the rulers of what Michael Hudson defines as the FIRE system (financialization, insurance, real estate), a de facto banking Mafia.

As a direct consequence, they also realize how collective West public opinion is absolutely clueless, Plato cave-style, of their total captivity by the FIRE rulers, who cannot possibly tolerate any alternative narrative.

So Putin, Patrushev, Medvedev will never presume that a senile teleprompter reader in the White House or a cokehead comedian in Kiev “rule” anything.

DJ...Finance, Insurance, Real Estate (FIRE) running the west ? Would explain the endless list of disasters making the 0,1% only even more rich...

DJ, Some recent background news;

https://www.republicworld.com/world-news/russia-ukraine-crisis/russia-to-build-two-nuclear-reactors-in-hungary-confirms-fm-szijjarto-amid-war-in-europe-articleshow.html or https://www.republicworld.com/world-news/russia-ukraine-crisis/russia-to-build-two-nuclear-reactors-in-hungary-confirms-fm-szijjarto-amid-war-in-europe-articleshow.html ;

Hungary's Foreign Minister, Peter Szijjarto has stated that Russian nuclear power giant Rosatom is set to start building two new nuclear reactors in his nation in the upcoming weeks. According to the BBC report, the agreement which was inked between Russia and the EU nation in the year 2014, focuses on the expansion of Hungary’s Paks nuclear facility.

It is worth mentioning that the European Union has not imposed any sanctions on Russia's nuclear sector because of its brutal invasion of Ukraine. Further, Hungary has not always supported initiatives to isolate and sanction its shipments of gas and oil.

According to the report, currently, 40% of Hungary's power is produced at the Paks facility. Russia is mainly funding the contentious €12.5 billion ($12.4 billion) project. In addition to this, Peter Szijjarto, the foreign minister, wrote on Facebook, "Let the construction begin!"

DJ, Hungary and Türkiye are NATO-members. So far these two countries go their own way in their relations with Russia. Türkiye was kept out of the EU so also does not follow EU-sanctions. Hungary using exclusion of sanctions on nuclear energy.

https://www.zerohedge.com/geopolitical/hawkish-senator-calls-taiwan-country-4th-us-delegation-island-month-alone or https://www.zerohedge.com/geopolitical/hawkish-senator-calls-taiwan-country-4th-us-delegation-island-month-alone

Following the Nancy Pelosi visit which sparked unprecedent sea and aerial Chinese military live fire exercises, Taiwan on Thursday unveiled a huge defense budget increase of just shy of 14%.  Specifically at a 13.9% increase, Taiwan's cabinet has already approved the spending boost and it will next be debated in parliament, and if approve would bring the island's total military budge to about $19.41 billion for 2023.

The flow of weapons from Washington, which Beijing has vehemently condemned as a severe violation of the 'One China' principle, is thus expected to only increase, with provisions being made in the budget for more fighter jet funding and other major hardware.

DJ, de facto the US has ended its "One China policy". My impression is Russia/Belarus, Iran, China and several others are preparing for "war with the west".

https://www.moonofalabama.org/2022/08/no-russias-iran-relations-do-not-change-with-the-nuclear-deal.html or https://www.moonofalabama.org/2022/08/no-russias-iran-relations-do-not-change-with-the-nuclear-deal.html ;

The facts are:

  • Yes, Russia and Iran have agreed on new energy development projects in Iran.
  • Yes, Russia and Iran have agreed to renew an old oil swap deal. As part of the larger deal Russian crude will flow through the Caspian Sea to Iran's north while Iran will sell oil from its fields in the south to pay for it.
  • No, Russia has no need to sell oil through Iran.
  • No, all the above has nothing to do with the nuclear deal.

Despite Europe's lunatic sanctions on Russian energy it oil exports are in fact doing very well:

Russia’s oil exports rose back above $20 billion in June despite lower shipments abroad because of a rally in energy prices, according to the International Energy Agency.

That was an increase by $700 million from a month earlier, even as Russia’s daily exports of crude-oil and products fell by 250,000 barrels to 7.4 million barrels, the lowest since August, the IEA estimated in its monthly report published on Wednesday.

$20 billion in June adds up to $60 billion in a quarter year. For comparison:

Oil Exports in Russia increased to 32300 USD Million in the fourth quarter of 2021 from 29100 USD Million in the third quarter of 2021. source: Central Bank of Russia

Russia currently makes more money through oil sales than ever before.

DJ...Russia still may get most of its money from (indirect) energy trade from "the west". Trying to evade Russian energy western countries now buy energy omn "the global market" resulting in buying a mix -including Russian energy- only for higher prices via outside-Russia dealers. Also kerosine, diesel etc from India (etc. even Saudi Arabia is buying Russian oil...) the west is buying may be made from Russian oil...

Russia-Iran-India route is now used in part for energy deals between Russia and India but it may also be used for Iran buying Russian oil and selling Iranian oil to India.

https://southfront.org/suicide-drones-struck-us-base-in-northeastern-syria-reports/ or https://southfront.org/suicide-drones-struck-us-base-in-northeastern-syria-reports/

Late on August 25, a series of explosions rocked the US-led coalition’s Green Village base in the northeastern Syrian governorate of Deir Ezzor.

The base is located within al-Omar oil fields in the southeastern Deir Ezzor countryside. It is one of the focal points of the ongoing confrontation between the coalition and Iranian-backed forces in Syria and Iraq.

Several Syrians news sources reported that Iranian-backed forces attacked the base with a number of suicide drones. The sources didn’t mention any casualties or material losses. These reports are yet to be confirmed, or denied by the US-led coalition.

Following the drone attack, a salvo of rockets hit a base of the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) near the town of Hajin, which is also located in the southeastern countryside of Deir Ezzor. Iranian-backed forces were reportedly behind the attack.

DJ also https://southfront.org/syrian-army-foiled-infiltration-attempt-near-al-tanf-killed-three-us-backed-militants/ or https://southfront.org/syrian-army-foiled-infiltration-attempt-near-al-tanf-killed-three-us-backed-militants/

The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) had foiled an infiltration attempt by the Revolutionary Commando Army (MaT) near the US-occupied southeastern Syrian are of al-Tanf, Oleg Yegorov, deputy chief of the Russian Center for the Reconciliation of Opposing Parties in Syria, announced on August 25.

The US-led coalition maintains a fairly large garrison in al-Tanf. The MaT is the coalition’s main proxy group in the strategic area.

“On August 25, 2022, at 00:10, in the vicinity of Al Ulayyaniyah -66 kilometers south of Palmyra-, the militants of the MaT armed group on two pickup trucks with large-caliber machine guns attempted to break through from the at-Tanf area controlled by the US-led international coalition onto the territory controlled by the Syrian government. As a result of an armed clash between the members of the group and Syria’s armed forces, three militants were eliminated. Three Syrian servicemen sustained serious wounds,” he said.

The military official added that the incident demonstrated the US-led coalition inability to establish control over at-Tanf and intercept terror attacks.

The US-led coalition maintains a 55-kilometer no-fly zone around al-Tanf garrison, where 200 of its personnel and 300 militants of the MaT are usually present. The garrison blocks a strategic highway that links the Syrian capital, Damascus, with the Iraqi capital, Baghdad.

It looks like US/NATO occupation forces both illegally in Syria and Iraq are coming under increased pressure. Jordan may be the only supporter of US/NATO occupation forces in the area.

This move coincides with Putin's plan: Belarus will enter the war against Ukraine and further tighten the situation in the Suwalki Corridor on the way to Kaliningrad and the Baltic.

If the Poles attempt to block the Belarusian forces on the way to Ukraine, specifically to Lviv and Kyiv, then the use of tactical nuclear weapons will follow. "Nothing will save you"

DJ, IF !!!! Belarus would change its position from "passive" to "active" partner of Russia in its conflict with NATO I think it is a major escalation.

Given the refusal of any peace talks by NATO-Kiev puppets (Western countries even planning weapon deliveries for 2025/26 to Ukraine !) Russia may increase pressure on Ukraine. Ukraine claims 200 elite Russian soldiers killed in base strike in Luhansk

The Ukrainian governor of the occupied eastern region of Luhansk on Friday claimed that some 200 elite Russian soldiers had been killed in a missile strike.

In a message posted to Telegram Serhiy Gaidai said the strike hit a hotel in the city of Kadiivka that had allegedly been housing Russian soldiers since 2014.

"In the temporarily occupied Kadiivka (Stakhanov), Luhansk region, Ukrainian soldiers destroyed a Russian army base, which they had set up in the Donbas Hotel," he said in a message translated by Pravda. "Two hundred elite military airborne troops of the Russian Federation were killed."

The Pentagon earlier this month said Russia had taken heavy casualties as it entered its sixth month of war in Ukraine with as many as 80,000 Russian soldiers having been injured or killed in the fighting.

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree to expand Russia's ranks by adding another 137,000 soldiers to its military, bringing its fighting force to a total of 1.15 million soldiers

ksc,

https://southfront.org/pentagon-ig-doubtful-ukraine-is-tracking-us-supplied-arms-will-conduct-audit/ or https://southfront.org/pentagon-ig-doubtful-ukraine-is-tracking-us-supplied-arms-will-conduct-audit/ does not claim to be "neutral or objective"...They did go for the Russian side of this Ukraine war...(in Russia you get in trouble for calling this a war...Russia still going for "SMO", Special Military Operation...reminds me of the two "Police Actions" NL had in now Indonesia after World War Two...)

https://halturnerradioshow.com/index.php/en/news-page/world/video-russian-tanks-massing-near-kherson or https://halturnerradioshow.com/index.php/en/news-page/world/video-russian-tanks-massing-near-kherson

Hal Turner is a far right wing activist...I do not agree with most of his ideas..(including killing "left wingers" wich would include me...) but his info on more tanks moving into Ukraine fits in with the other sources (Military Summary, Alexander Mercouris, MoA, ZH etc) of Russia preparing another major operation in Ukraine.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YEwc7tCzfcw or https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YEwc7tCzfcw Judge Napolitano also trying to "stay informed" talking to a retired CIA person.

In the hierarchy of the CIA, MI6, no doubt also a lot of MSM-"free press" there is a selection proces; Real facts from "the bottom" are "mutated" to what the "top" does want to hear..."weapons of mass destruction in Iraq"?  Bottom-no proof...top..we have an informer (+ Saudi Arabia did send Iraq lots of money for WMD in its war against Iran 1980-88).

Certainly the present -global- situation is "very complex"; Asian integration with Saudi-Iran relations, Türkiye-Syria relations, India-China relations "far from good to close to war"...

In SE Europe NATO going for drills in Kosovo-close to Serbian borders-may be seen as another US/NATO provocation...

The US has a "very bizarre" "One China policy"

DJ-The picture I get -from following lots of sources, is;

-It looks like "wars of the west against the rest" only further escalate...

-The west itself (not only the US, but also UK, NL etc) in semi-pertinent political crises

-Western economies on their way to recession/depression

-Currency wars may end US$ and Euro...growing risk of hyperinflation in the west...

DJ; The "west-rest" conflict may take a lot of time. The "rest" is very divided. Some countries go for "balancing" (Türkiye, Saudi Arabia) and also the EU is in a different position then the US, UK, Australia or Japan. South Korea has had China as its major trade-partner for almost two decades...SK wants protection against NK agression but also Korean reunification is "top of the list" for both Korea's. Russia, China may be of more help in combining those two goals then the US is...Korea, China and others "united in hate" against Japan....

So...outlook for "basic freedoms" , me writing here openly what I think, is NOT good !

It could and should have been avoided by the west respecting the rest ! Not a neo-colonial "global NATO" but realistic diplomacy !!!

The million+ deaths in Iraq, over 100,000 Ukraine deaths, hundreds of thousends of other deaths, tens-of-millions of refugees are the outcome of western racism and greed !

At the end it may be "the west" that is "self destructive" by going for confrontation instead of communication...

We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.

Judge Napolitano is another pos that should be in jail. It's no wonder he's buddies with convicted felon, white supremacist, and admitted snitch Hal Turner. He's also buddies with convicted pedophile Scot Ritter. These criminals are the dregs of society, but these are the vile people you chose to follow around the bowels of the internet, very, very odd behavior.....

Two men have dropped their lawsuits accusing disgraced former Bergen County judge turned Fox News analyst Andrew Napolitano of sexually assaulting them.

Napolitano, who was fired from Fox last August amid accusations of sexually harassing employees, had already made headlines this week for selling his condo at Trump International Hotel & Tower on Central Park West.

Then came reports, first published in the New Jersey Law Journal, that Charles Corbishley and James Kruzelnick had withdrawn their suits accusing Napolitano of sexual abuse three decades apart.

Napolitano also dropped a libel suit, suggesting some type of undisclosed settlement or agreement.

Corbishley claimed in his $10 million federal suit that a crooked defense lawyer sent him to the longtime Fox News analyst’s home in Newton, ostensibly to shovel snow, while a case against him was still pending in the late 1980s.

Corbishely, who’d only just turned 20, had been charged in 1987 with starting an arson fire with another man behind a Hackensack apartment building. The blaze destroyed a 1968 Volvo and a Dumpster.

Newark-born Napolitano had just become a state Superior Court judge in Bergen County when the case came before him in Hackensack.

Corbishely alleged in his lawsuit that Napolitano was wearing a trench coat when he called him to the side of the house, put his hand on his shoulder and forced him to his knees.

“You know, you could be going away for a long time,” Corbishley claims Napolitano told him.

The judge told him to “be a good boy,” then “pulled his erect penis out” and “forced [Corbishley] to perform fellatio on the Honorable Andrew Napolitano,” the suit alleged.

Corbishley -- who recently owned and operated a cleaning services company in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina -- was “paralyzed with fear” and "terrified about what Judge Napolitano would do to him if he resisted or fought back,” it said.

Napolitano later sentenced Corbishley to probation and community service after he pleaded guilty to reduced charges. His co-defendant was sentenced to several years in prison.

A Sussex County man has filed a $15 million lawsuit against former Bergen County Judge Andrew Napolitano on Monday, alleging the Fox News analyst attempted to rape him and offered legal help in exchange for sexual favors.

James Kruzelnick, a Wantage resident who says he frequently waited on Napolitano at the Mohawk House in Sparta, alleges in his suit that Napolitano sexually assaulted him between 2014 and 2017 and used the promise of legal advice to pressure Kruzelnick into performing sex acts.

Kruzelnick is the second man this month to sue Napolitano alleging sexual assault. Charles Corbishley, a South Carolina resident who stood in Napolitano’s Hackensack court on criminal charges in the 1980s, accused Napolitano of forcing him to perform oral sex in return for a more lenient sentence.

“We see a disturbing pattern emerging of Napolitano sexually assaulting much younger men and then using his power and influence to silence these victims,” Bennitta Joseph, Kruzelnick’s attorney, said in a statement.

...and then just last year...

Judge Andrew Napolitano, a legal contributor for Fox News, is no longer employed by the network following allegations of sexual harassment.

In a complaint filed on Monday, a 27-year-old Fox News associate producer alleged that Napolitano has “sexually harassed numerous young male employees during his tenure at Fox News.” The plaintiff, whose name is John Fawcett, claims that he reported Napolitano’s misconduct to Fox News’ human resources department but they did not take any immediate action against him.

In a statement to Variety, Fox News said that upon learning of the allegations, the network “immediately investigated the claims and addressed the matter with both parties.” Napolitano has not appeared on air at Fox News for several months.

On Russian television, propaganda is becoming less and less popular

Since the beginning of the invasion of Ukraine, the audience of the main state-controlled channels has collapsed by 25%. The number of users of the encrypted messaging app Telegram, on the other hand, is increasing.

"The Russian state propaganda conveyor belt, which costs 100 billion rubles a year [1.7 billion euros] has begun to malfunction," The Moscow Times newspaper reported on Monday, August 22. "Federal TV channels, which talk about the defeat of the 'Nazis' in the morning, the strength of the economy in the afternoon and suggest nuclear strikes against Europe in the evening, are rapidly losing viewers to the internet and messaging services [for Russians] seeking alternative information."

Russia is removing its air defense systems from Syria, which it can transfer to the war in Ukraine

Russia transferred an anti-aircraft battery of the S-300 type from Syria. The battery deployed last month protected the Russian base “Khamim” and the port of Tartus.

The Israeli media reported the relevant information, referring to satellite images of the private Israeli intelligence firm ImageSatIntl. Probably, the Kremlin is resorting to such actions because of the shortage of weapons in the war against Ukraine.

DJ,

During the Vietnam-war opponents of the war in the US did see the US tax-service being used against them. Of course there are lots of ways governments can (try to) silence critics.

In climate collapse/change and pandemics defunding science bringing unwelcome news is "easy"...In "internet-days" smear campaigns can be used against critics..

But what should matter is the info...much less the source...

https://halturnerradioshow.com/index.php/en/news-page/news-nation/bp-refinery-in-whiting-burns-energy-emergency-declared or https://halturnerradioshow.com/index.php/en/news-page/news-nation/bp-refinery-in-whiting-burns-energy-emergency-declared ;The U.S. Department of Transportation has declared a regional emergency for Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, and Wisconsin after a fire shut down the BP oil refinery in Whiting, Ind., the largest in the Midwest, though there hasn't been an impact on gas prices so far.

DJ https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/gtwo.php?basin=atlc&fdays=5 or https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/gtwo.php?basin=atlc&fdays=5 hurricanes in the Atlantic-finally-getting started ?

The global powerstruggle is a.o. on control over energy, finance, logistics...

The Pacific-war against Japan in World War Two did see a major role for US bulldozers preparing airstrips...So the US/Allies could get control over the sky high speed.

Today https://www.zerohedge.com/commodities/russia-and-saudi-arabia-are-battling-oil-market-share-asia or https://www.zerohedge.com/commodities/russia-and-saudi-arabia-are-battling-oil-market-share-asia China is the global energy consumer. QE (creating money) is even supposed to "get China's economy an extra boost" (CoViD-related). So energy demand is growing even further...

Alexander Mercouris https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bXA8fj4clPU or https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bXA8fj4clPU noticed Iran, Venezuela only may be able to increase production because they never stopped producing/selling oil...only not as oil from their countries due to US/western sanctions...The idea that "the west" could "lift sanctions" and get a lot of energy from countries they still also want regime change may "not be very realistic"...

The US is "more or less" selfsupporting in energy (with some help from Canada). The EU/UK may "face problems"....

DJ;

-There is still a lot of oil/gas in Europe (Northsea a.o.) that can be explored -some of it possibly even short term in excisting production facilities...Starting new productionsites may take some time (a few years ?) but higher energy prices mau enable exploration of energy not profitable untill recent...

-Drought is a major problem for electricity plants, cooling water in rivers "close to crisis" (in France sometimes water-temperature-limits pushed up from 28C to 30C). We may be getting out of major European heatwaves...drought remains a major problem...

-Solar/wind energy is "growing fast" but also increases instability on the European (including UK) electricity grid. (Sunny/windy days=to much "green" energy, foggy days to little.).

-Doing "more with less", increase of energy efficiency offers room...Here you need active governments...limits to "wasting" energy in flying, using cars...telling people they can not take a shower while not limiting (air)travel is "unwise"...Higher energy costs also will make steps to decrease energy consumption profitable...

So, the EU may still get "a lot" of its energy from Russia (direct or indirect; diesel/kerosine from India, Türkiye) and in that way pay for the Russian war against Ukraine...I think that picture will change within a few years...

Present oil/energy producers know there are limits...in the short term increasing energy prices may result in losing markets in the longer term...

https://halturnerradioshow.com/index.php/en/news-page/world/major-air-assault-against-western-ukraine-from-belarus-territory or https://halturnerradioshow.com/index.php/en/news-page/world/major-air-assault-against-western-ukraine-from-belarus-territory HT claiming UK did buy weapons for Ukraine from Kazachstan-via Jordan. The US would get (old soviet) weapons via Bulgaria...Storage facilities in NW Ukraine would now be destroyed...

DJ-other sources indicate a lot of modern WESTERN ! weapons are brought into Ukraine...Some of those "not easy to use" (Taiwan drones) so they may "need western advisors/instructors" .

-https://www.globaltimes.cn/page/202208/1274041.shtml or https://www.globaltimes.cn/page/202208/1274041.shtml ; New generation military aircraft such as the YU-20 aerial tanker and J-16 fighter jets have been deployed in the China-Russia joint aerial strategic patrol, said Senior Colonel Shen Jinke, a spokesperson for the PLA Air Force, in response to a question from the Global Times concerning the YU-20's flight path at a press conference for the PLA Air Force's open day event in Changchun, Northeast China's Jilin Province on Sunday.

Very likely Russia/China think the US "would love" China getting agressive...so Russia/China may be working on a "longer term plan" (5 years ?) to "get the US out" of Taiwan, South Korea, West Pacific...https://www.zerohedge.com/geopolitical/solomons-islands-denying-port-calls-us-military-vessels-china-influence-grows or https://www.zerohedge.com/geopolitical/solomons-islands-denying-port-calls-us-military-vessels-china-influence-grows

The "big game" is "EurAsian integration" and EurAsia getting the global dominant player...Over half of the global population live in Asia...China, India (and EU) on PPP-basis already may be  larger then the US...or soon will be...

https://www.zerohedge.com/geopolitical/escobar-all-way-odessa or https://www.zerohedge.com/geopolitical/escobar-all-way-odessa

It’s also a given the CIA/MI6 combo will be refining non-stop the contours of a massive guerrilla war against Russia in multiple fronts – crammed with terror attacks and all sorts of provocations.

Yet in the Bigger Picture it’s the inevitable Russian military victory in Donbass and then “all the Taurian lands” that will hit the collective West like a lethal asteroid. The geopolitical humiliation will be unbearable; not to mention the geoeconomic humiliation for vassalized Europe.

As Eurasian integration will become an even stronger vector, Russian diplomacy will be solidifying the new normal. Never forget that Moscow had no trouble normalizing relations, for instance, with China, Iran, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Israel. All these actors, in different ways, directly contributed to the fall of the USSR. Now – with one exception – they are all focused on The Dawn of the Eurasian Century.

DJ..."the west" is 10-15% of the global population, 85-90% is "the rest" and again-"the rest" will NOT accept a "global NATO" neo-colonialism....(and western politics should know better !!!).

We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.

Shoigu being 'sidelined' and ridiculed for 'ineffectual' leadership, say MoD

Russia’s defence minister Sergei Shoigu is being “side-lined” due to problems in the war against Ukraine and is likely being ridiculed by soldiers for his “ineffectual” leadership, said British intelligence.

The latest update from the Ministry of Defence (MoD) said:

Recent independent Russian media reports have claimed that due to the problems Russia is facing in its war against Ukraine, Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu is now being side-lined within the Russian leadership, with operational commanders briefing President Putin directly on the course of the war.

Russian officers and soldiers with first-hand experience of the war probably routinely ridicule Shoigu for his ineffectual and out-of-touch leadership as Russian progress has stalled.

The update added that Shoigu has probably “struggled” to overcome his reputation as not having much military experience.

Authored by Kyle Anzalone and Will Porter via The Libertarian Institute,

In response to Russia’s attack on Ukraine, US President Joe Biden vowed to isolate and "cripple" the Russian economy. However, Moscow has been able to maintain its economic strength, in part by exporting over $1 billion per month in wood, metals, food and other goods to the US

More than 3,600 ships from Russia have arrived at US ports since February 24, according to statistics cited by the Associated Press. While that is nearly half of the shipments over the same period compared to last year, it still amounts to over $6 billion in imports

DJ, Russia may have some raw materials (uranium a.o.) that may not be that easy to replace...

https://www.zerohedge.com/energy/what-will-be-real-world-consequences-europes-coming-energy-crisis or https://www.zerohedge.com/energy/what-will-be-real-world-consequences-europes-coming-energy-crisis ; Anyone with any sense could have seen it coming – Europe is on the precipice of an economic and social crisis not seen since World War II; and they basically did it to themselves.  Ever since the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the subsequent NATO sanctions, the talking heads in the mainstream media have consistently fed the public an endless narrative on how the EU doesn't need Russian natural gas.  We've heard an array of theories and chest beating from corporate journalists and lying politicians; all of them sounding so certain that Russia would be isolated and economically destroyed within no time.  This has not happened, and now the reverse might soon be true for the EU and the UK.

DJ, We most of the time now have milder winters in most area's. However we may expect more "extremes". So there is a lot of uncertainty on the 22/23 winter...The further away the more room for Europe for "energy optimism"...It is a matter of starting up exploration, getting it funded.

What is missing is active governments limiting energy consumption NOW-other then (stupid) advise "limit your shower"...

Two things that point to the notion that Washington is supporting a long war in Ukraine, and truly doesn’t think there will be a diplomatic solution or cessation of violence there anytime soon: one, the $3 billion in recently announced military transfers is a “multi-year military investment” including weapons that won’t be available via defense contractors for at least three years.

Secondly, a little nugget dropped on us Wednesday night: Biden plans on “naming ” the U.S. military assistance mission in Ukraine and making it a separate command with its own general. You know, like Operation Desert Storm, Operation Gothic Serpent, Operation Uphold Democracy, or Operation Unified ProtectorWe can expect the name, when it comes, will be heavy on the righteous benefactor angle, softer on the sword. But it is nevertheless a military operation, and that carries with it some practical, and serious implications. From WSJ:

The naming of the operation formally recognizes the U.S. effort within the military, akin to how the Pentagon dubbed the missions in Iraq and Afghanistan Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Freedom’s Sentinel. The naming of the training and assistance is significant bureaucratically, as it typically entails long-term, dedicated funding and the possibility of special pay, ribbons and awards for service members participating in the effort. The selection of a general, expected to be a two- or three-star, reflects the creation of a command responsible to coordinate the effort, a shift from the largely ad hoc effort to provide training and assistance to the Ukrainians for years.

This does not seem like a formula for bringing the war to a swift end. This seems like an all-too familiar set up for a “long hard slog.” Ukraine may be in the driver’s seat today, but the West, which most certainly includes the hawkish UK foreign policy elite, appears to be more interested in seeing this through as this era’s Soviet-Afghan war, or the U.S. war in Afghanistan itself, which took two decades before Washington finally threw up its hands and walked away.

Russia, for its part, just announced a plan to expand its military forces, signaling its own commitment to the long war.

Rather than putting energy into getting both sides into a position where they can begin talking about a ceasefire and some sort of negotiated settlement, Washington is naming a new command. If this is not acknowledging a deeper level of U.S. military involvement, what is it? And if so, why shouldn’t the American people be wary?

DJ, I expect a growing gap between the US/UK and Europe...sanctions war was supposed to be "short term" ..."we"in Europe need fossil energy...and if the US/west can not provide it lack of energy is ending Europe...

We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.

Slowly but surely the nazis are being destroyed or fleeing to their terrorist nation. As the sanctions slowly erode the once, and  still struggling russian economy (not even a top 10 economic power), the people of russia will slowly catch on. Russia doesn't have the economic strength to battle multiple top ten world economies. Once the energy issues are sorted out and the new weapons and highly trained servicemen are in place, maybe the war criminal Putin will want to negotiate. I have a feeling he will eventually "disappear"....

Another multinational has announced its intentions to wind down its remaining operations in Russia, Reuters has reported.

Computer accessories giant Logitech International said on Monday it would wind down its remaining operations in Russia due to the “ongoing uncertain environment”, joining other major technology and telecoms businesses to announce plans for a complete exit.

“In March, we communicated that Logitech would stop shipments to Russia,” Logitech said in a statement. “We have monitored the situation closely and regrettably, the circumstances do not allow for us to continue to do business as before.”

  • Ericsson said it will gradually wind down business activities in Russia over the coming months. The company, which suspended its business in Russia indefinitely in April, said it has about 400 employees in Russia and would provide financial support to affected employees, reports Reuters. Dell Technologies Inc said on Saturday it had ceased all Russian operations after closing its offices in mid-August.

Its Finnish rival Nokia had already announced its decision to pull out of Russia, impacting about 2,000 employees.

LPR volunteer Murz on the 6-month results of the SMO: “We are in the a*s”.

Posted on 26 August 2022

  |

  |

The Russian volunteer and blogger Murz who has been deeply involved with providing repairs and collecting aid for the so-called “People’s Militia” of the so-called “Donbass Republics” has published his view of the results of the six months of the special operation. It is somewhat of a long post but the level of self-awareness (with few exceptions) of Murz is quite striking.

Murz first admits that the most combat-ready Russian forces have mostly been destroyed in the first stages of the war and Russia has no other choice but shell to death Ukrainian positions with hope of the latter to retreat. He admits this is an extremely inefficient and tedious process. He also says that the reservist recruitment program in Russia has failed as these units are too fresh to be effective in the battle:

Half a year of “SMO”

As already mentioned, the Russian leadership prefers to turn a blind eye to problems during the SMO, hoping that this will make the problems disappear. The leadership of Russia is moving into another reality (and the Republics are following it). Problems do not disappear, and then we hear amazing explanations for the slow pace of the offensive – “we are deliberately advancing so slowly so that fewer civilians die.”

The reality is that in the spring the Russian Federation killed all those forces with which were able to carry out large-scale encirclement operations. No encirclement operations, no decisive turning point in the course of war. I already wrote about it. The enemy will slowly retreat in those places where they will be pressed by the artillery powerfully enough, but they will retreat to prepared positions occupied by the reserves deployed. To “grind” their cheap infantry in this way without having enough of our own proper infantry can take a very long time and not bring much success.

As already mentioned, instead of the normal replenishment of currently fighting troops, a program has been launched to form new units “from scratch”. We will observe the slaughter of this wave of “volunteers” over Ukrainian positions, including the next three-month-old “BARS” [special reserve initiative in Russia] during the fall. With no mobilisation there will be no fully-fledged replenishment of troops. Are you forming new units in conditions of a general shortage of personnel and communications? They will initially turn out to be uncontrollable, roll out in dense columns to the front line and be wrecked by the enemy artillery and MLRS.

Well, the remnants of experienced infantry professionals are now being finished in completely wild conditions of further attempts to storm the Ukrainian positions around Donetsk.

Traditionally, members of Murz’s faction like Strelkov are big proponents of mobilisation in Russia, and according to Murz it is simply inevitable as the best troops of the “Republics” have also perished by the time Mariupol was captured:

As one officer of the DPR People’s Militiasaid, by the start of Mariupol [campaign], most of the platoon and company officers who had been officers before February 24, 2022, had died. In Mariupol, in their place were more or less experienced sergeants, they dragged Mariupol on their backs, and died or dropped out due to severe injuries in the same location. Now most of the platoons and company commanders in the Republics are simply the most experienced ordinary soldiers or, if you’re lucky, sergeants who do not have any officer training.

I read here from Natalia Kurchatova, a military correspondent who is not prone to wavering along with the party line:

“There are, so to speak, serious doubts about the practicability of mobilisation. It is unlikely that poorly trained reserves can radically improve the situation at the front, but the river of funeral notices can overwhelm the patience of the Russian society, which, let’s be honest, is not too inclined to sacrifice private interests for the sake of victory.”

This means that even many of those who say what they think, and who at the same time have something to think with, do not understand what is happening. We are already fighting with poorly trained or not at all trained people, such as the Donetsk and Luhansk “mobilised” and all kinds of “volunteers” who are not properly trained by anyone to work with heavy weapons. Fighting now are sick, old, recovering wounded, anyone who is caught on the street. And the sooner the mobilisation is announced in the Russian Federation, the more time will be in order to prepare these mobilised for battles.

Murz continues by showing that not only privates but also officers lack knowledge necessary to carry out effective operations, in fact, certain members of the People’s Militia admit they need training which might take decades. Yet Murz appears to start realising that mobilisation on its own will not bring major results given that people in Russia are similarly not ready to fight, though it might take some pressure off the “Republics”:

Recently, while receiving a pair of binoculars from me for his subordinates from one of the line battalions, one veteran of the Luhansk militia and the “Prizrak” battalion in particular, said: “We could do with more textbooks … on tactics, topography”. It is a rare case when a person understands that untrained people can’t do anything. Especially officers not trained to be officers.

Mobilisation could, on the contrary, reduce the “flow of funeral notices”, albeit at the cost of the fact that some of them will come not to Donetsk or Luhansk families, but to the Russian ones. But the mobilisation in the Russian Federation requires the responsibility for the fate of those mobilised. And our collective Russian Zapp Brannigan really does not want this responsibility.

However… I’m damn tired of arguing. I argued for seven years, torn myself explaining that one should not fly in the clouds, one should prepare for a serious fight. Get ready seriously. No one cared. Now I just don’t have time for these arguments. You will see everything yourself.

The slaughter of the next wave of “volunteers”, formed from now a completely unusable contingent, which will begin to run away after the first battles much faster than the first recruitment. Then an awkward pause to come up with an explanation for why we starting advancing even more slowly. Then humiliating attempts at negotiations. Then, finally, mobilisation in the Russian Federation, even more monstrous than the current “recruitment of volunteers”, because the same people will be involved. And yes, races towards Ukrainian machine guns by unprepared mobilised for the first anniversary of the start of the SMO. Again without communication, without personal protection, without normal training, without normal management…

“Go, there’s no one there!”

Despite the questionable results that mobilisation might bring, Murz believes this will at least prevent the frontline from starting to roll back and Ukraine getting initiative. (Note: we believe this will happen regardless, however). Finally, he makes an ominous conclusion by suggesting the Russian Federation is “in the a*s”:

If there will be no mobilisation in the Russian Federation – the frontline will not just stop, but will begin to slowly roll back in places in the opposite direction. To the sounds of “Kalibrs” flying over the heads of the ukrops somewhere into their rear.

This is a war to destroy Russia, no one will agree to any compromise peace, unless the very fact of its agreeing is included in the mechanism of a coup d’état in the Russian Federation. And this war, with excellent chances of winning our leadership has every chance of squander.

[…]

As for the texts, I will try to finish in the foreseeable future the text about communications, about why it does not exist, and I hope I will somehow have time to write about the drones that do not exist. And so in general there is nothing to argue about, there is nothing to prove. There are people who understand what kind of ass we are in, and people who have moved to another reality, with their information

Around 45,700 Russian soldiers have been killed in the conflict, the Ukrainian military has said in its latest regular update. The Kremlin has only officially acknowledged 1,351 Russian deaths on the battlefield in its most recent update from March. However, as many as 70 or 80,000 Russian military personnel may have been killed so far, a spokesperson for the US Department of Defense said on August 8. As the death toll continues to rise, Putin “cannot survive” the Russian public’s growing anger over the casualties, according to a leading military expert.

Dr John Callahan, a former diplomat and State Department spokesperson, has been analysing the war in Ukraine, and the potential for Russia to send more men into battle after it kickstarted a new army recruitment drive this week.

Speaking to Express.co.uk, he said: “If you do a mass mobilisation, then you can p**s off the masses.

“Putin cannot survive that, or at least we do not think he can.”

Dr Callahan, who now works as a military adviser and a dean at New England College, also highlighted the economic implications of suddenly sending huge numbers of Russians into Ukraine to make up for the tens of thousands of men killed.

The expert explained: “If you do a mass mobilisation, where do those guys come from?

“They come from factories, they come from agriculture, they come from whatever job they were doing, which is then not getting done.

“So, your economy goes even more in the toilet, and it becomes a self-licking ice cream cone of failure.”

Dr Callahan’s insight into Russia’s manpower deficit, comes as the Kremlin is trying to recruit new soldiers to fight in what Putin calls the “special operation” in Ukraine.

As the losses on the battlefield take their toll, Moscow has introduced a new maximum age limit so men aged 18 to 60 years old can now sign up.

The BBC reported this week Russia’s new push to sign up recruits has seen the military offer hopeful soldiers monthly salaries of £4,700, as well as plots of land and places for their children at top Russian schools.

Meanwhile the recruitment drive has also reportedly been expanded to Russian prisons, where inmates are promised freedom and cash if they fight in Ukraine.

The BBC spoke to the mother of a 24-year-old soldier, Yevgeny Chubarina, who was given a gun, sent to the frontline and killed within days.

Nina Chubarina, who lives in a village in Karelia in northern Russia, criticised the way Russia recruited her son and other young men for the war in Ukraine.

She said: “I tried to talk him out of it. I cried. I said, ‘There’s a war, you’ll be killed!’ He said, ‘Mum, everything will be fine.’

“They just send them in like dumb little chickens! They’d hardly even held a gun before.

“They’re cannon fodder. The generals think, ‘We’ve got a volunteer: great, in you go!'”

However, Yevgeny is far from the only inexperienced young Russian sent to the frontline in Ukraine.

In one instance, some 600 new recruits were illegally sent into battle, the Russian military prosecutor admitted in June.

Hundreds of conscripts have been sent to fight in the war, despite Putin previously saying that only experienced soldiers would be deployed.

Dr Callahan compared Putin’s response to Russia’s losses in Ukraine to the hasty recruitment drive during Russia’s Second Chechen War between 1999 and 2009.

For the moment, the casualties have been at a level where the only people who are publicly angry about it are the mothers.

“But in the Chechen war, they did a mass mobilisation, and they were literally taking people off the streets.

“When you do that, you get people who would not normally have been in the army and families who would not normally have sent their sons to the army.

“And so, they got angry. There were protests of mothers, who were saying, ‘Where is my son, who is conscripted in this war that I don’t know anything about? He’s dying and what for?’

“It was a serious thing. Now, Putin does not want that to happen again.”

Watch and learn, the lesson has begun (this "special operation" might take more than 3-4 days)....

Ukrainian forces begin 'shaping' battlefield for counteroffensive, senior US officials say

(CNN)Ukrainian forces have begun "shaping" operations in southern Ukraine to prepare the battlefield for a significant Ukrainian counteroffensive, two senior US officials briefed on the intelligence told CNN.

Shaping operations are standard military practice prior to an offensive and involve striking weapons systems, command and control, ammunition depots and other targets to prepare the battlefield for planned advances.
The US believes the Ukrainian counteroffensive, which has long been anticipated, will include a combination of air and ground operations.
Ukraine indicated Monday morning that the actions were underway.

"Yes, (Ukrainian forces) have started the offensive actions in several directions on the South front towards liberating the occupied territories," Natalia Humeniuk, a spokesperson for Ukraine's Operational Command South, told CNN, adding, "All the details will be available after the operation is fulfilled."
The plans come as Russia's war in Ukraine has passed its six-month mark, with US assessments indicating that Russia has been able to deploy fewer units to the frontlines than initially thought, according to a senior US official.
The official said many of the existing units -- which Russia organizes into Battlefield Tactical Groups, or BTGs, comprising infantry, tanks, artillery and air defense -- are deploying below strength, some even at half their normal manpower. The US has also been observing Ukrainian forces benefiting from the use of US- and NATO-supplied HIMARS mobile rocket launchers, which have allowed Ukraine to strike and destroy targets in Russian-held territory.
CNN reported last week that US and European officials say Ukraine has successfully used a method of resistance warfare developed by US special operations forces to fight back against Russia and bog down its vastly superior military. The Resistance Operating Concept was developed in 2013 following Russia's war with Georgia a few years earlier but its value was only realized after Russia's invasion of Ukraine's Crimean peninsula in 2014. It provides a blueprint for smaller nations to effectively resist and confront a larger neighbor that has invaded.

Neither Ukrainian nor US officials are revealing the main targets of the expected counteroffensive. In recent weeks Ukrainian forces have been making advances around the key southern city of Kherson, which is currently occupied by Russian forces. Kherson is considered crucial to the control of Ukraine's southern coast and access to the Black Sea.

I believe I suggested it would be a mini-Falaise (WWII reference) with likely 10-25,000 Russian forces trapped west of the Dniepro. Only the Russians couldn’t see it coming.

If, by some miracle, Ukraine is able to route Russian troops north of the Dnieper, this could be catastrophic for Russia. Ten thousand POWs and an incredible amount of captured equipment that can't re-cross the river. Reminds me a bit of how Yom Kippur War ended.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I1fwCassHbY or https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I1fwCassHbY Military Summary (MS) august 29 trying to get a picture of the (supposed) offensive of Ukraine in the Kherson-region.

-september 8 "Ukraine supporters" will decide on more weapons/funds for Ukraine

-september 11 referendum in parts of Ukraine to join Russia

MS underlines it may be to early to get a realistic picture on events in SW Ukraine. A real offensive has to be more then "one attack"...

Another offensive was carried out along the Mykolaiv- Kherson road. The AFU attacked from their military positions in the village of Posad-Pokrovsky located on the highway. The offensive was carried out in teo directions. The assault groups headed towards Pravdino and the city of Kherson. So far, the AFU reportedly managed to advance about 10 kilometers and reach the village of Kiselevka. However, the attack was repelled and they were forced to step back towards the village of Soldatskoe. Fierce clashes continue in Pravdino and Kiselevka.

Britain is preparing to station combat aircraft in civilian airports for the first time since World War II in response to the Ukraine conflict.

The dispersing of planes across the country will allegedly help the Royal Air Force’s rapid-response units survive attacks on their bases.

The Agile Combat Employment (ACE) scheme was initially intended for potential hotspots overseas, such as the Indo-Pacific, the Middle East, and Eastern Europe.

A trial next month will have Eurofighter Typhoon and F-35 jet fighters based in Norfolk, Lincolnshire, and Scotland “scattered in small groups and based discreetly” in several regional airports with suitable runways.

Other jets and larger aircraft will be based in different areas in times of “imminent crisis.”

and https://southfront.org/biden-to-name-a-us-military-operation-for-ukraine/ or https://southfront.org/biden-to-name-a-us-military-operation-for-ukraine/ ;

DJ; The US naming the "Ukraine operation", UK using civil airports for military use at the moment Ukraine starts an offensive makes it look serious...

MS; US provided boats to Ukraine for river crossings, (DJ-Also in NE Ukraine Izium, there was a suggestion of an Ukraine(/NATO) offensive).

Whitney may have overstated the case a bit there, but his opening quote is apposite:

“The primordial interest of the United States, over which for centuries we have fought wars– the First, the Second and Cold Wars– has been the relationship between Germany and Russia, because united there, they’re the only force that could threaten us. And to make sure that that doesn’t happen.” George Friedman, STRATFOR CEO at The Chicago Council on Foreign Affairs

It’s also worth noting that this has been the “primordial interest” of Great Britain for far longer than it has been for the U.S.: to keep any one power or alliance of powers from dominating Continental Europe. That puts Britain’s enthusiasm for a policy that is wrecking Germany economically in a different light.

Now, Noah Carl has used Whitney’s piece as a jumping off point for his own, where he makes the cynical (by his own admission) case that the U.S. wanted Russia to invade the Ukraine precisely to cancel Nord Stream 2. I’ve posted it in full below, followed by an argument by a British economist in favor of opening Nord Stream 2 now.

DJ There is "disagreement" between the US and EU on EU "trading partners"...it is about much more then "just" Russian energy. China-Europe raillinks, EU-Iran deal...In my opinion the US wants to tell the EU how to "live their lives"...

https://www.moonofalabama.org/2022/08/europes-economic-and-social-suicide-provoked-by-the-us-and-helped-along-by-europes-leaders.html or https://www.moonofalabama.org/2022/08/europes-economic-and-social-suicide-provoked-by-the-us-and-helped-along-by-europes-leaders.html

The U.S. has, out of purely egoistic reasons, dragged Europe, and especially Germany, into a trap that will lead to its economic and social destruction. Instead of recognizing the danger, and taking the necessary countermeasure, the European and the German 'leaders' committed themselves to help with the process.

The best thing for Europe and Germany would of course have been to avoid the crisis. That failed because of a lack of insight and effort. But now, as Europe is deep down in a hole, the politicians should at least stop digging. It is in Europe's and especially Germany's obvious interest to keep the crisis as short as possible.

But the lunatics who are ruling over Europe are still doing the opposite:

DJ, MoA conclusion is far right wing nationalists may win support in Europe...certainly in Germany. DJ-There is still "left wing" opposition to this Ukraine-US made-war in some other countries. (France a.o.) but...yes both EU and UK are getting deeper into a crisis.

However, if biden/US elite had an idea of the US becoming a more dominant player in the world-Russia-Iran-China (RIC) cooperation is putting RIC more and more in a dominant global position...Since globalization did see a lot of US/UK/EU production going to low-income countries, recources in the "west" are limited also the US "will pay"...

https://southfront.org/russia-iran-and-azerbaijan-deepen-cooperation-to-bypass-western-sanctions/ or https://southfront.org/russia-iran-and-azerbaijan-deepen-cooperation-to-bypass-western-sanctions/ ; Russia, Iran and Azerbaijan signed a memorandum in Tehran on August 22 to simplify transit routes, improve business relations between the three countries, and develop logistics towards the European continent. The signing of the memorandum is an important step towards the anticipated “North-South” international transport corridor, which offers a shorter alternative to the Suez Canal route. Compared to the sea route through the Suez Canal, the distance is reduced by about two times, which will lower the cost of transportation by about 30% and save time.

DJ...the "fight" is on who controls global energy and resources, raw materials...

NL gasconsumption first 6 months of 2022 dropped 25%, (Oil industry -59%, chemical industry -32%, powerplants -28%, households -16%). NL gas exports -20%, import +3% LNG inport +57% most from the US and Russia. NL used to be a gas-exporter, earthquakes in the north part of NL means stopping production there, however North Sea still has a lot of oil and gas. Other places in NL also may have oil, gas, coal but on-land production in NL "has its limits" due to earthquakes..

Since climate change bring most of the time "warmer winters", energy saving may limit the crisis in many places...still fuel prices, consumer prices, will go up.

NL is in a relative good position, we distribute goods from ports/own production all over Europe...Other countries may be in a worse position...

The political crisis both in the US/UK and EU at least in part may not be that much related to Ukraine at all...Gap between politics (and government, EU) and citizens did  widen the last decades, income inequality did "explode"...

-There also may be a major development in Iraq. DJ Powerstruggle between Iran, Türkiye, Saudi Arabia and maybe the US trying to keep some positions...?

"We live in interesting times"...

We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.

DJ,

A bit more on western support for nazi's/fascists;

https://www.amazon.com/Nazi-Billionaires-Germanys-Wealthiest-Dynasties/dp/1328497887 or https://www.amazon.com/Nazi-Billionaires-Germanys-Wealthiest-Dynasties/dp/1328497887 ;

“Meticulously researched …compels us to confront the current-day legacy of these Nazi ties.” —Wall Street Journal

A groundbreaking investigation of how the Nazis helped German tycoons make billions off the horrors of the Third Reich and World War II—and how America allowed them to get away with it.

In 1946, Günther Quandt—patriarch of Germany’s most iconic industrial empire, a dynasty that today controls BMW—was arrested for suspected Nazi collaboration. Quandt claimed that he had been forced to join the party by his archrival, propaganda minister Joseph Goebbels, and the courts acquitted him. But Quandt lied. And his heirs, and those of other Nazi billionaires, have only grown wealthier in the generations since, while their reckoning with this dark past remains incomplete at best. Many of them continue to control swaths of the world economy, owning iconic brands whose products blanket the globe. The brutal legacy of the dynasties that dominated Daimler-Benz, cofounded Allianz, and still control Porsche, Volkswagen, and BMW has remained hidden in plain sight—until now.

In this landmark work of investigative journalism, David de Jong reveals the true story of how Germany’s wealthiest business dynasties amassed untold money and power by abetting the atrocities of the Third Reich. Using a wealth of previously untapped sources, de Jong shows how these tycoons seized Jewish businesses, procured slave laborers, and ramped up weapons production to equip Hitler’s army as Europe burned around them. Most shocking of all, de Jong exposes how America’s political expediency enabled these billionaires to get away with their crimes, covering up a bloodstain that defiles the German and global economy to this day.

Review

“Lucid, and damning, David de Jong's Nazi Billionaires unearths decades of family secrets and exposes the tainted origins of several of the world's most significant dynastic fortunes. As adept in the archive as he is on the page, de Jong draws on a vast wealth of historical evidence to tell an absorbing—and infuriating—tale of complicity, coverup, and denial, and to unearth the sordid war crimes behind some of today's most vaunted consumer brands.” — Patrick Radden Keefe, New York Times bestselling author of Empire of Pain and Say Nothing, winner of the National Book Critics Circle Award

"Scathing … De Jong’s colorful narrative features cutthroat corporate intrigue, sordid kowtowing to Nazi potentates ... and a melodramatic feud.... The result is an intimate and vivid history." — Publishers Weekly

"De Jong is thorough in his tracing of business and personal relationships and sensitive to the complexities of opportunism and collaboration. But the picture he paints is a damning one, pointing to the complicity of those who allowed war crimes to go unpunished." — Booklist

"A sturdy account of the financial side of Nazi evil that resonates today ... It’s to de Jong’s credit that he brings many of these events back into the historical spotlight." — Kirkus Reviews

“A detailed, compelling and bone-chilling account.” — Jerusalem Post

"Engrossing ... A powerful read that’s sadly relevant again for our times."  — Town & Country

“Eloquent, thorough, and profound, David de Jong’s brilliant debut illuminates a dark chapter of the past while also shining a stark and uncanny light onto our present, and, perhaps, our near future—showing how an insidious mix of capitalism and fascism can destroy democracy and countless lives. An absolute must-read." — Norman Ohler, New York Times bestselling author of Blitzed: Drugs in the Third Reich

"De Jong catalogues the misdeeds and riches of the Quandts, Flicks, von Fincks, Porsche-Piëchs and Oetkers, names that still disfigure the social pages of smart Europe… It is impossible to fault de Jong’s fierce indignation." — Max Hastings, The Sunday Times (UK)

"David de Jong's explosive debut of narrative nonfiction is as riveting as it is disturbing. At times, it felt like reading the anti-Schindler's List: instead of secretly helping the Jews, Germany's most powerful tycoons brutally exploited their suffering for personal profit. The fact that some of Germany's greatest fortunes are deeply intertwined with the ignominies of the Third Reich should be much better known—and thanks to Nazi Billionaires, it will be." — Bradley Hope, New York Times bestselling coauthor of Billion Dollar Whale: The Man Who Fooled Wall Street, Hollywood, and the World

"In an age when the turpitude of the wealthy is getting new attention, David de Jong’s sleuthing has uncovered a remarkable and upsetting web of connections between the signature evil of the twentieth century and fabulous riches today. With its finely wrought stories of German individuals and families—including Jews who were expropriated—Nazi Billionaires suggests that even today amends have not yet been made for the profits that some reaped in an era of horror." — Samuel Moyn, Henry R. Luce Professor of Jurisprudence at Yale Law School and a professor of history at Yale University

"A fast-paced, eminently readable, and well-researched book."  — HistoryNet

The international effort to bring Japanese war criminals to justice was actively thwarted and sabotaged by the US occupation authorities led by General MacArthur and President Truman's administration in Washington. Why? Because Japan was needed as a postwar ally of the US to help stop the spread of Communism. But this meant that finding justice for the hundreds of thousands of Allied POWs, internees and local civilians who had been maltreated and often murdered by Japanese troops during WWII was very difficult. Many of the guilty were never charged, while those given prison terms were let out early.

- A comment; One of the worst Australian atrocities occurred on 16 February 1942, when 22 female Australian Army nurses, survivors of a sunken evacuation ship, were marched into the surf by Japanese soldiers off Bangka Island, east of Sumatra and machined-gunned to death. One victim faked death and survived the war (was prevented from reporting after the war that many of the nurses had been raped prior to death). There is obviously no moral or ethical basis for this slaughter. All Japanese involved should have been executed, however none ever faced prosecution.

Meanwhile back in the real world... No wonder the nazis think they've destroyed more Himars than were actually delivered. Is russia even a top 5 military now as their glaring weakness's are being exposed daily. With a new fleet of fighter jets and more advanced toys on there way to Ukraine, russia might just be shocked...

Scoop: Ukraine has developed a fleet of wooden decoys resembling U.S. rocket systems that have tricked Russian forces into wasting expensive long-range cruise missiles on dummy targets, per sources and photographs of the replicas reviewed by The Post.

Is Iran using their vast supply of prisoners to build their failure prone drones? That worked out so well for the Nazis.

DJ-Since this is a global conflict over a.o. energy;

The European Union is reducing its dependence on Russian natural gas and has made some progress. Norway has displaced Russia as the top supplier of NatGas to the EU as energy supply chains are rejiggered, reported Reuters, as Moscow reduces flows to EU countries via the Nord Stream 1 pipeline.

According to government data in May, Norway ramped up NatGas production by at least 8% versus last year. This means the Scandinavian country could produce upwards of 122 billion cubic meters (bcm) of NatGas this year.

Refinitiv Eikon data show Norway is now the largest supplier of NatGas to Europe, surpassing Russia, which has slashed Nord Stream capacity to just 20%. By Wednesday, the pipeline will undergo a surprise three-day shutdown for 'maintenance' work.

Norwegian petroleum & energy minister Terje Aasland expects production levels can be sustained through the decade as new projects are coming online. This is undoubtedly a relief for the energy-stricken continent.

"I expect that we can maintain the production levels we are at now until 2030.

"We see that there are projects and also plans for development and operation coming now that can help maintain the high gas volumes going forward," Terje Aasland told Reuters in an interview.

The energy minister said diversification of EU's Natgas supplies away from Russia is critical. He said, "this is an important message to get from the EU."

Increasing flows from Norway also come as European Natas prices have tripled and repeatedly hit new records this summer. Though prices plunged on Monday from all-time highs reached last week following news Germany was ahead of schedule in filling up storage facilities ahead of winter.

Reuters is confirming the breaking news that "Taiwan's military on Tuesday fired warning shots at a Chinese drone which buzzed an islet controlled by Taiwan near the Chinese coast, a military spokesperson said."

The headline sparked anxiety across markets as fears remain of a broader 'reunification' war in the wake of Nancy Pelosi's ultra provocative Taipei visit on Aug.2.

US equity markets erased all their overnight gains. Bond yields initially tumbled on a safe-haven bid, but bounced back after the US macro data.

-Ukraine

It is a bit early to speak of defeat as the Ukrainian attacks continue. The total strength of the Ukrainian side is probably two divisions worth which means some 30.000+ soldiers.

The losses of 1,200 Ukrainian soldiers are therefore not yet significant. The fighting at the Donetsk front cost several hundred Ukrainian lives each day. But the relative high losses of tanks, IFVs and armored vehicles are very notable. That equipment was enough for at least three to five full battalions.

The losses can be explained by the flat open steppe in the area. There are very few wooded or build up areas that would allow tanks to hide. It is ideal for the defending side as long range anti-tank missiles can pick off the tanks before they even know where the fire is coming from.

The Ukraine does not have many armored vehicles left and has even difficulties to get more of them from the 'west'. The countries which still had Soviet equipment have already given most of it to the Ukraine.

The Ukraine has also brought reserves from Odessa to Kryvyi Rih (Russian: Krivoy Rog) to protect it from an eventual Russian attack should the offensive fail.

That will most likely be the case. I expect everything to be back to its previous position in a day or two. We may then see a Russian attempt to break through the thinned out Ukrainian lines in this or that other direction.

DJ, A possible scenario could be some NATO countries sending in military for frontduty (Poland ? Baltics ?) It would be a further escalation of the Ukraine war...The coming days may tell more on how the Ukraine offensive develops.

https://thesaker.is/ukronazi-good-terrorists-a-whos-who-infographic/ or https://thesaker.is/ukronazi-good-terrorists-a-whos-who-infographic/ DJ-Most Ukrainians hate nazi's...again Zelensky did win the elections because he promissed peace. Russia and Ukraine "share" a lot of their history. Western Ukraine only did become part of Ukraine after World War Two-1945.

Also during the USSR/Soviet Union a mix of nations-most Russians moving to other Soviet states-was a political goal.

We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.

Ukraine's Mystic Kherson Offensive Did Not, And Will Not Happen

There has been much talk in 'western' media about a Ukrainian offensive in the southern Kherson region. However most of the claims made about it seem to be divorced from the observable realities on the ground. The detailed look below provides that there is no such offensive and that there is little chance that there will ever be one.

Cowardly Putin puppet runs away as Kherson is undergoing denazification...

Pjotr Sauer

The deputy head of the Russian-installed administration in Ukraine’s occupied Kherson region, Kirill Stremousov, said in a telephone interview that “everything in Kherson was under control,” claiming that Ukrainian spies and saboteurs were killed near Kherson’s Tavriiskyi neighbourhood on Tuesday.

Earlier in the day, reports emerged that Stremousov had left Kherson after a video he posted appeared to indicate that he was located in Voronezh, a Russian city some 600 miles from Kherson.

When asked by the Guardian about his location, Stremousov said that he was currently “travelling around Russian cities, meeting different people for work”.

He said:

I don’t have to sit [in Kherson]. I am the deputy head of the region and have the opportunity to move around…These are working trips.

“Kherson will remain my base,” he added, denying that he left Kherson out of safety concerns.

Stremousov became the most senior Russian-appointed official in Kherson after the local governor, Volodymyr Saldo, was taken to hospital amid a suspected poisoning earlier in the summer.

Stremousov’s apparent departure from Kherson comes after another Russian-appointed official in the region, Alexei Kovalev, was shot dead in his home over the weekend.

In the past months, a number of Ukrainian nationals appointed by Russian forces in occupied territory have been killed or wounded in apparent partisan attacks.

"under control"...

Ukraine’s southern region of Kherson has been hit by a partial power outage, Russian state news agencies have cited pro-Russian officials as saying.

Russian media also reported a partial shutdown of the water supply, as well as traffic lights and building lights going off.

It comes after Ukrainian forces launched their long-awaited counteroffensive to take back the southern region from Russia.

Getting more 122mm and 152mm shells for Ukraine has always been a "Money Solvable Problem" given the wide range of ammo producers for those shells in the lesser developed world. We are seeing the power of the West's collective bank accounts tipping the scale for Ukraine here.👇
