LYMAN/1120 UTC 2 OCT/ RU forces within the Lyman salient have collapsed. RU units that escaped UKR encirclement retreated in disorder. RU sources reveal that at least 500 newly mobilized troops refused orders to fight, and surrendered positions piecemeal during the withdrawal.

Reinforcements on the way, must of procured some moonshine from Alabama...

After seeing videos of freshly-mobilized Russians—so drunk they could barely stand—many asked me whether it's for real. Hear it straight from the horse's mouth: former deputy commander of Russia's southern military district: "Never in my life have I seen any sober people there."

DJ,

Russia is preparing for moving in into Ukraine...now a more all-out war scenario is more likely. (Anti Terrorist Operation ? ) In that scenario (military) "leaders" of Ukraine-including "NATO advisors" will be hunted down...Some claims Putin want this Ukraine war over before the end of the year...Some "groups" already did put posters in Nikolayev "Russia will be there october 10"...

However-the main "front" no longer is in Ukraine...it is in the SCO de-dollarization of (global) trade...Russia no longer selling oil, gas, uranium to "non-friendly" countries (US was still buying uranium...).

https://www.zerohedge.com/geopolitical/escobar-who-profits-pipeline-terror or https://www.zerohedge.com/geopolitical/escobar-who-profits-pipeline-terror

Secret talks between Russia and Germany to resolve their Nord Stream 1 and 2 issues had to be averted at any cost..

DJ, The US -biden-goal is "keep US #1" at ALL costs...https://www.zerohedge.com/geopolitical/blinken-calls-sabotage-attacks-nord-stream-pipelines-tremendous-opportunity or https://www.zerohedge.com/geopolitical/blinken-calls-sabotage-attacks-nord-stream-pipelines-tremendous-opportunity

US-NATO goal was to keep Germany "down" (the EU limited) and Russia (and China) out...the basic conflict is economic...

What the US not expected is it did become a war between "the west" and "the rest"....

https://www.zerohedge.com/markets/dollar-strength-global-currency-debasement or https://www.zerohedge.com/markets/dollar-strength-global-currency-debasement

DJ-The "only way out" for western currencies is to increase their intrinsic value...but that would mean "revaluation" back to "real things" (oil, gold, silver etc.) ...I do not think any economist is able to give exact numbers...but it could mean Euro, Dollar, Pound, Yen "real value" is only 10% ??? of the "blown-up/pumped-up" value...It would be an "economic shock" never seen in recent history...only redistribution of wealth...the 1% very rich giving up "their" property could make such a step possible...

https://www.zerohedge.com/geopolitical/kissinger-warns-washington-warmongers-not-wise-include-ukraine-nato or https://www.zerohedge.com/geopolitical/kissinger-warns-washington-warmongers-not-wise-include-ukraine-nato ;

Mr. Kissinger courted controversy earlier this year by suggesting that incautious policies on the part of the U.S. and NATO may have touched off the crisis in Ukraine.

He saw no choice but to take Vladimir Putin’s stated security concerns seriously and believes that it was a mistake for NATO to signal to Ukraine that it might eventually join the alliance:

“I thought that Poland — all the traditional Western countries that have been part of Western history — were logical members of NATO,” he says.

But Ukraine, in his view, is a collection of territories once appended to Russia, which Russians see as their own, even though “some Ukrainians” do not.

Stability would be better served by its acting as a buffer between Russia and the West:

“I was in favor of the full independence of Ukraine, but I thought its best role was something like Finland.”

Well the 99-year-old has doubled-down on them now, bluntly telling the Council on Foreign Relations that any attempt to remove Russia's historic "safety belt" was unwise.

“From the Russian point of view, the United States then attempted to integrate this whole region, without exception, into an American-led strategic system,” thus stressing that “it was not a wise American policy to attempt to include Ukraine into NATO.”

Finally, the former US Secretary of State said that sooner or later, the West and Russia must engage in dialogue.

“Some dialogue, maybe on an unofficial level, maybe in an exploratory way is very important,” he reiterated, adding that “in the nuclear environment” such an outcome is preferable to a “battlefield decision.”

In early August, Kissinger warned that the US had found itself “at the edge of war with Russia and China on issues which we partly created,” arguing that Washington has rejected traditional diplomacy, as it has been “seeking to convert or condemn their interlocutors rather than to penetrate their thinking.”

As Caitlin Johnstone succinctly noted earlier in the year, Henry Kissinger is warning about the dangers of US warmongering not because he has gotten saner, but because the US war machine has gotten crazier:

That we are now hurtling toward confrontations that don’t appear rational to someone who has spent the majority of his life watching the mechanics of empire from inside its inner chambers should concern us all. When you are talking about brinkmanship between major world powers, especially nuclear brinkmanship, the last thing you need is for one of the parties involved to be acting erratically and nonsensically. We need de-escalation and detente, and we need it yesterday. If you’re too hawkish for Henry Kissinger, you’re too motherfucking hawkish.

We couldn't have said it better.

DJ Kissinger has been warning present politicians more then once... what (the h.ll) is wrong with diplomacy ???? Why are "western leaders" pushing this hard for a global war they have NO chance of winning ????

Of course China, India know they are next if NATO could "win" from Russia...Former colonies do not want neo-colonial western dictatorship- a.o. via the US$-any longer...

Somehow "western leaders" are in a tunnel vision driving high speed into a concrete wall...Wake up before it is to late to act...!

We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.

As expected, Putin's Puppets will need to deflect their propaganda away from the battlefield. As internal dissent increases, his economy on the verge of collapse,  and his forces in disarray, the walls are closing in on an irrational Putin.

Russia's economy will 'die by winter' because of military mobilization

In the seven months since Russia invaded Ukraine, some have argued that the international sanctions levied against Russia weren’t strong enough as Russians continued to travel, shop, party—and generally lead a normal life.

Now, an action by Russian President Vladimir Putin could be the catalyst that brings the war home to Russians and plunges the economy into real catastrophe.

Last Wednesday, Putin announced a “partial” mobilization—Russia’s first mobilization decree since World War II—ordering 300,000 able-bodied men aged 18 to 30 in the military reserves to fight in Ukraine, sparking widespread protests across the country.

“I consider it necessary to make [this] decision, which is fully appropriate to the threats we face…to protect our motherland…to ensure the safety of our people and people in the liberated territories,” Putin said last week.

In the days that followed, Russian police arrested over 2,300 citizens for protesting, and tens of thousands of Russians have now fled the country to avoid the draft.

Now, Russian economist Vladislav Inozemtsev, the director of Moscow-based think tank the Center for Research on Post-Industrial Studies, is warning that Putin’s mobilization will have “truly catastrophic consequences,” including the death of the Russian economy and the downfall of Putin’s regime.

“The Russian economy is going to die by winter, I wrote in early March. Now I think I was right. The mobilization announced on Sept. 21 was a milestone that really divided Russian history into ‘before’ and ‘after’—an event that began the final countdown of Putin’s era,” the economist wrote on Sunday for Russian publication The Insider.

‘I don’t want to die for someone else’s ambitions’

Putin’s mobilization decree has already proved highly unpopular in Russia, prompting mass rallies and protest actions.

On Monday, a gunman opened fire at a military recruitment office in the Siberian region of Irkutsk, injuring one person. The gunman’s identity and motivation have not been disclosed. In Ryazan, a city 115 miles southeast of Moscow, a man set himself on fire, shouting that he didn’t want to fight in Ukraine. Over the weekend, at least 400 people—mostly women—protested in Yakutsk’s city centre, telling police to “let our children live.”

India And China Finally Voicing Concerns Over Russia’s Actions In Ukraine

India and China raised concerns about the impact of Russia’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine—emphasizing the violation of international law and territorial integrity—at a meeting of the UN Security Council on Thursday, rare signs of dissent from the two countries that were likely prompted by Russian President Vladimir Putin’s implicit threat to use nuclear weapons.

Indian Foreign Minister S Jaishankar said “there can be no justification for violation of human rights or of international law,” pointing to reports of mass killings in Ukrainian territories that were previously under Russian control.

In an apparent criticism of Putin’s veiled threats, Jaishankar said the “nuclear issue is a particular anxiety” and flagged the issue of global food and fuel shortages triggered by the invasion.

Two Putin allies ridicule Russia's war machine in public

LONDON, Oct 3 (Reuters) - The withdrawal of Russian forces from a strategically important town in eastern Ukraine has prompted two powerful allies of President Vladimir Putin to do something rare in modern Russia: publicly ridicule the war machine's top brass.

Russia's loss of the bastion of Lyman, which puts western parts of Luhansk region under threat, touched a nerve for Ramzan Kadyrov, the leader of the southern Russian republic of Chechnya.

Kadyrov, who has been close to Putin since his father and former president of Chechnya, Akhmad, was killed in a 2004 bomb attack in Grozny that also killed a Reuters photographer, suggested that Russia should consider using a small tactical nuclear weapon in Ukraine in response to the loss.

The nuclear warning caught the headlines, but his public scorn for Russia's top generals may have been just as significant in a Russia where public criticism of the war effort from within the top echelons of the elite has been taboo.

"Nepotism in the army will lead to no good," Kadyrov said, adding that the commander of Russian forces in the area should be stripped of his medals and sent to the front line with a gun to wash away his shame with blood.

Such public contempt for the generals running Russia's war is significant because it indicates the level of frustration within Putin's elite over the conduct of the war while also piercing the Kremlin's carefully controlled narrative.

Russia no longer has full control of any of four ‘annexed’ Ukrainian provinces

My colleagues Luke Harding and Isobel Koshiw in Kyiv, and Peter Beaumont in Sloviansk reported this story late on Monday night:

Russia no longer has full control of any of the four provinces of Ukraine it says it annexed last week after Ukrainian troops reportedly advanced dozens of kilometres in Kherson province in the south of the country and made additional gains in the east.

On Monday, the Russian military acknowledged that Kyiv’s forces had broken through in the Kherson region. It said the Ukrainian army and its “superior tank units” had managed to “penetrate the depths of our defence” around the villages of Zoltaya Balka and Alexsandrovka.

Ships for civilian and food shipments have been arriving, loading, and leaving from the Ukrainian port of Odessa for weeks, after a deal reached with Russia to allow such non-military shipping.  Today, the United States was caught sending more HIMARS weapons systems, in the hold of a grain ship.

Above is the photo, taken today in the port of Odessa, Ukraine, showing HIMARS multiple launch rocket systems, inside the cargo hold of a grain ship.

This is in complete and total violation of an agreement between Russia and Ukraine, that ships into and out of Odessa, would only haul food.  That agreement came after Russia was lambasted over Ukrainian grain shipments that were allegedly for "poor, third-world, countries."

Russia agreed to allow the grain shipments for the poorest nations on earth, but got screwed-over immediately, when 87 out of 90 ships in the ports of Ukraine, took the grain to Europe instead of to "poor, third-world, countries."

Now, we see Ukraine violating the agreement yet again, to bring in U.S. long range HIMARS systems in the cargo hold of a grain ship.

(HT REMARK: The government of Ukraine has no honor.  Neither does the government of the United States.)

DJ-My impression; there are a lot of talks going on...very likely Ukraine-Russia, US-Russia and lots of indirect contacts...goal is to avoid further escalation...Both the US/NATO and Russia/CSTO https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Collective_Security_Treaty_Organization or https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Collective_Security_Treaty_Organization are "ready" for further escalation...The four regions now are no longer part of Ukraine but of Russia...so any further Ukraine warfare is against Russian land...

Any sane person https://www.zerohedge.com/geopolitical/blue-checks-diplomats-bots-go-ballistic-over-elon-musks-proposed-russia-ukraine-peace or https://www.zerohedge.com/geopolitical/blue-checks-diplomats-bots-go-ballistic-over-elon-musks-proposed-russia-ukraine-peace should hope for de-escalation...

DJ-Further escalation may "bring the situation" where Russia, China seek the conflict zone's...very likely this may NOT be in Ukraine...

Some sources mention rain/winter may be on its way for Ukraine limiting the NATO-led forces...https://www.ventusky.com/?p=49.6;34.6;5&l=temperature-2m&t=20221014/0900 or https://www.ventusky.com/?p=49.6;34.6;5&l=temperature-2m&t=20221014/0900 does not show that rain/winter...So maybe talks are going on ?

Another story is one of the two Northstream-2 pipelines may be repaired and could start transport...if Germany wants it to...The US attacks did not fully destroy the pipes...gas now out of the leaks..With the economy near crash..Germany -the EU- may decide it has to talk with Russia...(even if the US then would push for more war...).

DJ-There is growing notion -even in the west-the US is the main problem...provoking Russia, Iran, China, North Korea...Maybe that also could be a factor for Russia not yet starting a major offensive yet...time is on their side...

We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.

A Monday Bloomberg TV segment on the Ukraine war with an expert who has in the recent past advised three UN Secretaries-General didn't go the way the Bloomberg hosts thought it would. Jeffrey Sachs, who is the Director of the Center for Sustainable Development at Columbia University, posited the United Stats was likely behind the sabotage attacks on the Nord Stream 1 and 2 pipelines when asked about it.

The top UN adviser said during the live interview, "The main fact is that the European economy is getting hammered by this, by the sudden cut-off of energy. And now to make it definitive - the destruction of the Nord Stream pipeline, which I would bet was a US action, perhaps US and Poland." Sachs added: "That is speculation" - before being cut-off mid sentence by show host Tom Keene, who looked a bit flabbergasted and frustrated over the perhaps unexpected turn in the interview...

"Uh, Jeff, we've got to stop there," Keene strongly interjected, leaving Sachs perplexed over why he couldn't continue the thought. The show host then questioned, "Why do you feel that was a US action? What evidence do you have of that?"

Sachs responded “Well, first, there is direct radar evidence that US military helicopters that are normally based in Gdansk were circling over this area," noting additionally that "We also had the threat from the US earlier this year that 'one way or another we are going to end Nord Stream'."

The Columbia professor then recalled from just days ago, "We also had a remarkable statement from Secretary Blinken last Friday in a press conference where he said 'this is also a tremendous opportunity'," which Sachs pointed out is "a strange way to talk if you're worried about piracy on international infrastructure of vital significance."

Needless to say this is not an aspect to the "debate" surrounding the mysterious sabotage of Nord Stream that's at all up to this point been featured on Bloomberg, CNN, MSNBC or other major news shows. But Sachs emphasized in defending his inquiry and suspicions over US involvement that many officials and pundits privately point the finger at Washington, but don't express it publicly:

I know this runs counter to our narrative - you aren't allowed to say these things in the West, but the fact of the matter is all over the world when I talk to people, they think the US did it

All the while the two show hosts attempted to cut in, before Sachs was finally told that the interview should no longer get into "tit-for-tat" of what "did or did not happen with Nord Stream" because "I don't have the evidence" - as the Bloomberg co-host said to close out the controversial topic of the pipelines.

Elsewhere in the interview Sachs emphasized that "most of the world doesn't see it [the Ukraine conflict] as we describe it" in the Western mainstream media, as they are alarmed at NATO expansion. The Columbia professor also early in the interview said:

"In vote after vote at the United Nations, basically, it has been the Western countries that have been voting for sanctions and denunciations and other actions. Whereas most of the world, certainly most of the world counted by population, is on the sidelines. They view this as a horrible clash between Russia and the US."

Sachs also emphasized in pushing back against the show hosts' seeming surprise at his alternate viewpoints that he's "on the side of peace" and voiced fears of escalation toward nuclear war: "Russia feels that this war is at the core of its security interests," he said. Keene at the end of the segment said the show was immediately getting a "fiery response" from viewers

Interestingly enough, the Sachs interview came the same day as the collective mainstream punditry meltdown and "outrage" over Elon Musk's "Russia-Ukraine Peace" Twitter poll, as we described previously.

DJ...one of the "spins" in blaming Russia for blowing up its (12 billion investment) Northstream pipelines is the "nuclear claims" the US is pushing...A nuclear attack in Ukraine most likely will be a US made false flag...blaming Russia-while Russia is not in need of nuclear weapons in Ukraine...Russia still has to start "the real war" ...

Again...every "sane person" realizes that...would try to avoid further escalation...So-again-I expect there are lots of talks in lots of places to find a way out...

We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.

New export licenses

Robert Habeck, Germany's economy minister and vice chancellor, confirmed in a letter to the Bundestag that several deals on arms exports had been approved by Scholz before his trip to the region, Der Spiegel and the dpa news agency reported.

The export licenses are part of a joint program with Italy, Spain and Britain, according to the letter.

Riyadh will be able to purchase equipment and ammunition for Eurofighter and Tornado jets worth €36 million ($35.2 million), according to Der Spiegel.

The European cooperation project will also supply spare parts for the Airbus A330 MRTT worth €2.8 million, dpa reported.

German weapons sales to Saudi Arabia peaked at €1.24 billion in 2012.

But in 2018, Germany's ruling bloc of the conservative CDU/CSU and the Social Democrats (SPD) agreed to ban arms exports to countries involved in the Yemen war

The agreement had several exceptions that allowed some exports of German military materials to the Gulf state.

A complete ban came into effect a year later, after Khashoggi's murder. The ban was extended twice since then.

What changed?

The ban was in line with Germany's stance of not exporting weapons to active conflict zones.

That stance has shifted this year as Germany came under pressure to provide Ukraine with weapons during Russia's invasion.

Riyadh has led an alliance in Yemen that is fighting the Iran-backed Houthi rebels alongside the government since 2014, creating what the UN has called the world's worst humanitarian crisis.

But hopes that the conflict could soon come to an end have risen as a UN-brokered cease-fire took effect in April and has since been renewed twice.

Berlin is also looking to improve its ties with energy exporters as it cuts its reliance on Russian gas during the war in Ukraine. Saudi Arabia is one of the world's most important energy exporters

Germany is one of the world's top arms producers and exporters, with sales increasing 21% from 2016 to 2020, according to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute. Its largest customers were South Korea, Algeria and Egypt.

Like Türkiye Saudi Arabia "is balancing" between Russia, China, EU, US...Germany/EU needs more energy...OPEC+ may decrease oil production...however maybe a choice could be to send less oil to China more to Europe...

Türkiye, but also OPEC members-have no problems in buying Russian oil/gas for "domestic use" to increase their own oil/gas exports...not sanctioned by "the west"...

A.o. The Duran https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YLN155b9vx8 or https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YLN155b9vx8 on why Russia is not (yet) in a major offensive in Ukraine...Putin is "balancing"...A "full scale war" is "bad for bussiness"...

So Russia is making clear;

https://halturnerradioshow.com/index.php/en/news-page/world/something-is-happening-in-belgorod-russia-strange-glow-from-sky or https://halturnerradioshow.com/index.php/en/news-page/world/something-is-happening-in-belgorod-russia-strange-glow-from-sky ;

UPDATE 8:29 PM EDT --

The source and purpose of these "strange lights" has been identified: Russia's PERESVET Laser Anti-Satellite System.

The military nature of the lighting became evident when the same light pattern hit the skies in Moscow, Murmansk, and Omsk, Russia as the world was paying attention to the lights in Belgorad.

These laser systems are "anti-satellite" insofar as they can "dazzle" any recon satellite orbiting within 1500 kilometers of earth!

By "Dazzle" we mean "Temporarily blind" the satellite, making it impossible for the satellite to "see" anything on the ground for tens-of-miles in all directions of its typical fly-by.

At this hour, I am told that with the area covered by the light emissions from Belgorad, Omsk, Moscow, and Murmansk, US/NATO surveillance satellites NOW CANNOT SEE A FULL FIFTY PERCENT OF RUSSIAN NUCLEAR MISSILE SILOS.

One source, in a position to know, told me "We can't see if the missile silo hatches are open."   He also told me "In vast swaths of Russia right now, we cannot see what is happening on the ground, or more importantly, what is moving and where, on the ground. For instance, we can no longer see if Tactical nuclear weapons are being pulled out of storage."

it is willing and able to escalate ...however not yet escalating..

Belarus, Poland "position themselves"...indicating a further escalation may bring war into Europe further...with more deaths, refugees, risks of further escalation...

DJ-In this conflict of "the west against the rest" lots of countries (India, Indonesia, Brazil) may be trying to "get the west to some sense"

The EU may become aware that US interests are NOT (always) EU interests...

DJ-Due to economic (and maybe pandemic) perspective(s) the "west" could be breaking up...

Redacted; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DJAIzO8ShEk or https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DJAIzO8ShEk ; Watch what happens when someone accidentally makes sense on the mainstream media! Economist Jeffrey Sachs tells Bloomberg that it is only logical to conclude that the U.S. had something to do with the Nord Stream pipeline and the anchors lose their mind. They say that they don't want a little thing like evidence to get in the way of their narrative! Of course not!

DJ..."the US created a great oppertunity to decrease European dependence on Russian gas" by blowing up Northstream 1 and 2 pipelines...

It is impossible for Europe NOT to see it as a "sort of decleration of war" by the US on the EU...so looking at the timeline; a European-Saudi weapondeal concluded after the US attacks on Northstream -with Saudi Arabia trying to go for talks between "the west" and Russia (and Saudi Arabia beeing supported in that step by a.o. the S.C.O, BRICS etc..) -

my conclusion is Northstream 1 & 2 sabotage is backfiring...

It is "very likely" Poland, Germany, Denmark, Sweden "know more" on the US role then they are willing to say...

The EU will not move to "friendship with Russia" but it may take some distance from the US...put more its own interests as a priority...

"Minsk-3" on its way ????

As Ukraine advances on the battlefield, the puppets are getting desperate. Now we have fake news of Himars hidden in grain holds with pictures from Romania. Pictures of light pillars represented as secret lasers which are invisible. You can't make this stuff up.... Oh wait...

And now  it is almost certain that russia sabotaged their own gas pipes in an act of cowardice in a feeble attempt to fracture the Best.

Five reasons why Russia is likely behind the Nord Stream industrial sabotage

Here are five reasons why Russia is probably the state that has orchestrated this dangerous act.

First, Putin has the motivation. Facing potential defeat in Ukraine, Putin is desperate to reverse the momentum on the battlefield by resorting to dramatic escalation. This is his way of trying to compel the U.S. and Europe to stop providing long-range weaponry to Ukraine. The outcome of the conflict in Ukraine is an existential issue for him personally and for Russia. Russia views Ukraine, along with other former Soviet states, as part of its strategic security perimeter.

Second, damaging or destroying critical infrastructure is consistent with Russia’s warfighting concept called Strategic Operation to Defeat Critical Infrastructure of the Adversary (SOPKVOP, in Russian). Russian strategists spent decades conceptualizing ways to bypass the U.S. and NATO conventional superiority in a conflict they had concluded was inevitable because Moscow and Washington have been in confrontation over control of the post-Soviet space since the collapse of the USSR in 1991.

NORD STREAM PIPELINE BLASTS WERE LIKELY FROM EXPLOSIONS, NOT EARTHQUAKES, SEISMOLOGIST SAYS

Intended for wartime, SOPKVOP operations also can be deployed during peacetime to "destabilize the opponent’s social and political situation" and dislodge the adversary psychologically to persuade him to abandon the fight. Russia’s targeting strategy prioritizes critical infrastructure. It has spent years studying Western vulnerabilities. SOPKVOP envisions prosecuting quasi-military campaigns by employing cyber operations and other non-kinetic methods.

Third, Russian military strategists have pondered a scenario in which Russia would target their adversaries' civilian infrastructure during a conflict. Defeating a "small number of key interconnected targets" that are vital to the functioning of the state would cause the "entire system to collapse," they hypothesized.

GLENN GREENWALD: NORD STREAM PIPELINE PROVIDES 'ENORMOUS' LEVERAGE TO RUSSIA

In 2012, Russian strategists analyzed a 2001 accident in the United States that involved a train that was transporting hazardous chemical materials and veered off the tracks in a Baltimore tunnel. The accident burst a water pipe, causing a three-foot flood that disrupted Baltimore’s mail carrier and telecommunications systems. Disruption of train and auto transportation followed along the entire Baltimore-to-New York corridor.

"Taking parts of the adversary’s civilian infrastructure out of commission," the Russian strategists argued, will produce cascading destructive effects, "harming the economy, healthcare, defense and security of the entire state."

Fourth, Russia is one of very few countries that has the exact capability needed to sever the Nord Stream pipelines carrying Russian gas to Europe and to do it covertly. Moscow has invested in undersea warfare capabilities through its GUGI program, a top secret program with the innocuous cover name of "Deep Sea Research" that includes work on undersea communications and sensor networks, hydrocarbon exploitation, submarine rescue and investigating wreckage.

CLICK HERE TO GET THE OPINION NEWSLETTER

Moscow has war gamed territorial incursions in the Baltic Sea and the North Atlantic as well as the disruption of undersea cables that carry communications. It is the only country, according to the U.S. Naval Institute, that has a fleet of special mission submarines for seabed warfare and espionage and is expanding this capability, while U.S. and European antisubmarine warfare capabilities have atrophied since the end of the Cold War.

Fifth, Putin has no use for Nord Stream in the short term, as neither pipeline 1 or 2 are revenue producing. Moscow shut down Nord Stream 1 at the end of August, claiming that U.S. and European economic sanctions had made maintenance impossible. Nord Stream 2 never became operational, with Germany having declined its certification. To the contrary, taking Nord Stream out of commission serves Putin’s goal of freezing the Europeans in winter, a standard Putin move to use energy as a weapon.

The Kremlin has the motive, the means and a warfighting doctrine that all put the sabotage of the Nord Stream pipeline directly at its feet.

Russian military planners have long studied ways to target civilian infrastructure

Laser Weapons Become An Invisible Killer That Changes War

Posted on  By htpow

The US Navy plans to deploy the latest laser weapons on the landing ship “Ponce” this summer. This is the first solid laser weapon deployed by the US Navy. This signifies that the long-term development of the US military’s laser weapons is about to be put into actual combat, moving from behind the scenes to the front stage.

Unlike the scenes in science fiction movies, laser pointer beams produced by laser weapons can only see the damage to the target after being hit by the naked eye, but they cannot see the actual beam. But it is this “invisible killer” that has the potential to change the combat thinking of future wars and have a decisive impact on the victory or defeat of wars.

Now back to reality...

WAR ON THE ROCKS

Russian war reporters warn Ukraine is threatening thin, fragile defensive lines in southern Kherson

Ukrainian forces made additional significant gains in southern Kherson province on Tuesday and pushed further east in northeastern Kharkiv, knocking at the borders of the Russian-occupied Donbas region. Ukrainian President Volodymr Zelensky on Tuesday night celebrated the liberation of dozens of settlements, including eight villages in the Kherson region, "and this is far from a complete list. Our soldiers do not stop."

The U.S.-based Institute for the Study of War (ISW) research group said Russian forces, to avoid encirclement, had retreated from at least 18 Kherson settlements, including Davydiv Brid and Dudchany, strategically important cogs in Russia's supply lines.

"Even the pro-war Russian bloggers — who command large followings online and often have direct access to Russian troops at the front line — were raising the alarm on Tuesday," The New York Times reports. One Russian war correspondent described the situation in Kherson as "critical," while a popular military blogger known as Rybar told his million followers that Russian forces are pulling back so rapidly "it's not entirely clear where the new line of contact will be." If Ukrainian forces complete their capture of the Dnieper River's west bank, he added, all Russian troops in the area would be in "immediate danger."

ABC News correspondent Ian Pannell reports that Russian military bloggers are complaining that their forces are outnumbered and outgunned, thanks to Ukraine's Western-supplied weapons.

One Russian military blogger claimed Tuesday that some Russian units in Kherson "have operated in the area without rotation since March and that the frontline is stretched so thin that some villages in this sector have 15 men defending them," ISW reports. "This description of a thin and undermanned frontline, along with effective Ukrainian offensive operations, partially explains the rapid rate of Russian collapse in this sector."

The military bloggers and war correspondents are one of three nationalist factions Russian President Vladimir Putin must appease to keep his war effort together, and after the collapses in Kharkiv and Kherson and his botched mobilization of reservists, "Putin is visibly failing at balancing" their "mutually exclusive demands," ISW reports. "The fragmentation of the Russian nationalist information space could have significant domestic impacts and could even affect the stability of Putin's regime."

Meanwhile on Russian state TV: grim predictions that Russia is at least two months away from even attempting to advance. Also, some surprising admissions about how unprepared they were and the magnitude of the losses they've experienced in Ukraine.

IT BEGINS: Moscow's TASS news reports that mobilized troops in the Omsk region are electing spokesmen to complain about conditions and lack of pay. These are literally acts of mutiny and insubordination-- and don't bode well for the combat performance Putin’s newest troops.

⚡︠The governor of the Omsk region of the Russian Federation, Oleksandr Burkov, said that the region has no money for payments to mobilized citizens. He also noted that the region has a budget deficit of more than 13 billion rubles. In this regard,

Burkov offered to transfer the burden to business, "recommending" it to pay the mobilized an amount equal to a month's salary.

DJ-Is the west run by crazy people ????

https://www.moonofalabama.org/2022/10/crazy-sanctions.html or https://www.moonofalabama.org/2022/10/crazy-sanctions.html EU-UK-US "price cap" on Russian oil has no chance...only will worsen the energy crisis. A comment;

This was not done out of Saudi solidarity with Russia. Saudi Arabia needs oil at above $80/bl to finance its budget.

There are signs that the Americans are threatening the House of Saud if it cuts production further. MBS better watch his throne ... Perhaps even his back.

DJ...the US has the bad habbit of killing heads of state not following US orders...

For that matter https://www.moonofalabama.org/2022/10/media-hide-facist-ideology-of-ukrainian-militia-which-visit-congress-.html or https://www.moonofalabama.org/2022/10/media-hide-facist-ideology-of-ukrainian-militia-which-visit-congress-.html the US/NATO did not only sponsor Ukraine nazi's...it did create/sponsor IS, alqueida, support all kind of fascist generals...

Did "we beat nazism" in 1945 ? Or are the "motors behind it" still in power ? Using pandemics, climate change to increase profits for themselves-at the end killing billions of people...

https://halturnerradioshow.com/index.php/en/news-page/world/from-a-source-in-europe or https://halturnerradioshow.com/index.php/en/news-page/world/from-a-source-in-europe ;

I would very much like to draw attention to this post and maybe pass it on. Especially for journalists. A colleague of mine (a military expert, a citizen of a NATO country who served in the international armed forces) has just informed me that a nuclear provocation in the south of Ukraine may occur in the coming days. I believe this report, for reasons that I will explain in more detail below.

As a reminder, at the talks between the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine and the NATO command at the end of August, the use of tactical nuclear weapons (TNW) or radioactive ("dirty") weapons in the south of Ukraine was discussed, followed by an accusation against Moscow. This should provide for a really deep breakthrough on the front and facilitate the emigration of the disloyal population of the region to Kiev. For the US, this is a pretext to aggravate the situation and force the EU countries to unite within the framework of NATO.

This could happen on October 5-10. Malka or Pion launchers, which should be available to Ukraine, could be used to shoot down the ammunition. (This option was worked out by military experts). Kiev insisted on the provision of TNW, but the "partners" were afraid that the ammunition could be stolen and insisted on making several "dirty" ammunition using radioactive material available to the AFU, possibly from Chernobyl, under the guidance of NATO advisers.

DJ...a.o. military summary has been warning for an Ukraine "dirty bomb"...Zelenski left the Munich-security-conference https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Munich_Security_Conference#2022_conference or https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Munich_Security_Conference#2022_conference with the claim Ukraine would get nuclear weapons...it may have been one of the final reasons for the Russian intervention...

The "biden-government" believes Putin was able to get trump elected...this "club of democrats" has been pushing for regime change in Moscow from day 1...

EU/UK "leaders" follow US orders resulting in an energy crisis, hyperinflation at "home" and escalating risks of major war with both Russia, Iran and China...

Healthcare is in crisis-close to collapse...with a bad winter wave coming...Climate collapse only getting worse due to ("green") politics now increasing coal....

http://arctic-news.blogspot.com/2022/10/methane-keeps-rising.html or http://arctic-news.blogspot.com/2022/10/methane-keeps-rising.html ;

A recently-published article points out that prudent risk management requires consideration of bad-to-worst-case scenarios. There is the danger that, as methane keeps rising, the clouds tipping point could be crossed. This danger is rarely discussed. How bad could it be?

A doubling of the mean methane level could push up the mean methane level to twice as much, to 792.4 ppm COâ‚‚e, which is only 407.6 ppm COâ‚‚ away from the 1200 ppm COâ‚‚e clouds tipping point that on its own could push up the temperature by some 8°C globally.

This gap of 407.6 ppm COâ‚‚ could be more than covered by the current carbon dioxide level. The September 2022 carbon dioxide level at Mauna Loa was higher than that, at 415.96 ppm. Since the carbon dioxide level at Mauna Loa in September typically is at its lowest point for the year, this implies that a large abrupt burst of methane could cause the the clouds tipping point to be instantly crossed due to methane and carbon dioxide alone.

Since there are further forcers, such as nitrous oxide and CFCs, while further events and development could additionally speed up the temperature rise, this means that the clouds tipping point could be instantly crossed in case of a burst of methane that is far smaller in size than the methane already in the atmosphere.

DJ...are humans self-destructive ? At least western leaders push for an end of live on this planet...INSANE !!!

DJ, Good talk https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cwWOqUdQ6xE or https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cwWOqUdQ6xE ; Garland Nixon/Scott Ritter;

Some basics;

-Ukraine now going for the max they can go-with lots of NATO help...but if that will not bring the results NATO/US wants what then...Russia still has to start..

-The idea of "regime change" in Moscow may bring only a more nationalist ruler-going for mass mobilization and war against NATO in power...DJ there have been warnings on this point for China as well...the present CCP rule in Bejing may have been "more open" for the west then any other likely new China ruler may be...Be carefull what you wish for...

-EU/Europe now a prisoner of NATO/US...sanctions are destroying Europe...blowing up northstream -by the US- went to far...

-DJ, OPEC+ may not be "pro-Russian" ; fossil fuels will see a limited market-so oil producers have all the interest in keeping prices high...Russian and OPEC interests may be the same...(so regime change in OPEC countries may not serve US goals any longer...)

-DJ-I may not agree with the view of "Russia being a better partner for the EU then the US is"...the problem is EU "leaning" not acting as an adult...The EU should have its OWN !!! foreign policy ! This could create MORE stability in this world !!! For that matter, biden may be provoking Russia, Iran, China...the EU is making matters much worse by agreeing with bad politics !

-https://www.zerohedge.com/geopolitical/escobar-whole-chessboard-about-be-radically-changed or https://www.zerohedge.com/geopolitical/escobar-whole-chessboard-about-be-radically-changed ;

This was an address to the collective Global South. In a key passage, Putin remarked how “the world has entered a period of revolutionary transformations, which are fundamental in nature. New development centers are being formed, they represent the majority.”

As he made the direct connection between multipolarity and strengthening of sovereignty, he took it all the way to the emergence of a new anti-colonial movement, a turbocharged version of the Non-Aligned Movement of the 1960s:

“We have many like-minded people all over the world, including in Europe and the United States, and we feel and see their support. A liberating, anti-colonial movement against unipolar hegemony is already developing in various countries and societies. Its subjectivity will only grow. It is this force that will determine the future geopolitical reality.”

DJ "market economy" did make the poor even more poor, the rich even more rich...on the long term that "strategy" does not work (unless you want to kill all the poor...). So the "western offer" is not offering any future for most non-western countries...The west only wants to create a rich non-western small elite serving western goals and profits...

Do Russia, China (India, Brazil, Indonesia, Pakistan, Nigeria) offer better perspectives ? Trade in own currencies may at least result in more value for those currencies (and not US$, Euro, Pound or Yen...). Around 90% of the global population do NOT live in the US-UK-EU....yet most of the wealth is with the 10% former colonizers...

Things need to change...(and the only western offer is regime change wars and coups...)...

We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.

Take the chairman of the Russian parliament's defense committee, Andrey Kartapolov. A retired top-ranking military officer who previously commanded the Western Military District (which has operational responsibility for areas of Ukraine outside of Crimea), Kartapolov was parachuted into the Duma last September as a reward for his loyalty. But Kartapolov offered no spin on Wednesday. "We need to stop lying," he said on a prime-time state TV show. Condemning the defense ministry's rose-tinted reporting on the war in Ukraine, Kartapolov explained that the country's credibility was being undermined by the public's awareness of major losses. "The people know, our people are not stupid," he said. This is a marked change from Kartapolov's rhetoric in April, when he proclaimed that the war would lead to a majestic shift in "world order."

Economy,

https://www.zerohedge.com/markets/opecs-action-testimony-staggering-us-geopolitical-and-geoeconomic-error or https://www.zerohedge.com/markets/opecs-action-testimony-staggering-us-geopolitical-and-geoeconomic-error ;

Yesterday was all about oil, geopolitics, and geostrategic errors; and, in the background, domestic politics, accepting past errors, and trying to make amends for them. Ironically, it all happened on Yom Kippur, the Jewish Day of Atonement, which back in 1973 jump-started a Middle East war, and then the energy crisis that led to the collapse of the post-WW2 Western political-economy model, and ushered in global neoliberalism.

OPEC+ lined up with Russia to slash output by 2m barrels a day from November and through 2023, pushing energy prices up, and seeing a slew of calls for oil to again top $100 in the near future. That was as US gasoline inventory data dropped 4.7m barrels to the lowest level since November 2014 despite apparent demand destruction.

The White House response was furious. The official statement said President Biden was “disappointed by the short-sighted decision” to cut production. The White House Press Secretary accused OPEC+ of “aligning with Russia” Off the record the response was probably blunter given such a cut had been flagged as a “hostile act”. Yet Saudi Arabia’s message to the White House also couldn’t have been blunter.

The Saudis have moved from swing producers who help the US at times of trouble to ones who cut to keep prices high; under a leader building Western-style tourist resorts and holding raves(!) That’s testimony to a staggering US geopolitical and geoeconomic error, compounded by its multi-layered domestic energy policy failures. The longer-term question is if it will prove to be the same kind of massive error for OPEC+ to have made itself a geostrategic problem for the US.

The near-term US policy responses underway are to double down on what is not working:

 • Another 10m barrels will be released from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, which is not bottomless, and may be needed in a geopolitical emergency at some point.

 • To “explore any additional responsible actions to continue increasing domestic production in the immediate term.” But there is no immediate private-sector response possible if the longer-term outlook is still to shut fossil fuels down.

 • Calling on US energy companies to bring pump prices down by closing the historically large gap between wholesale and retail gas prices - which is already slim for most retailers.

 • To consult with Congress on additional tools and authorities to reduce OPEC’s control over energy prices. This is even whispered to include the so-called NOPEC bill floated in 2007 but never enacted, which is designed to remove the state immunity shield and allow the international oil cartel, OPEC, and its national oil companies, to be sued under US antitrust law for anti-competitive attempts to limit the world's supply of petroleum.

 • To accelerate the clean energy transition, without the minerals or supply chains to do so, by increasing “reliance on American-made and American-produced clean energy and energy technologies”.

 • Despite the White House’s Kirby talking about ‘reducing dependence on foreign oil production’, the Wall Street Journal reports the ‘US Looks to Ease Venezuela Sanctions, Enabling Chevron to Pump Oil’: so a tiny gain in oil and a massive loss of deterrent power and loss of face.

Do you see the geopolitical and geoeconomic tectonic plates shifting? Do you see how this influences markets? If not, you are in the wrong game.

DJ...most oil producing countries know their oil may be worth less in a much more renewable energy focussed world on the horizon...So they go for extra profits now...Saudi Arabia is hoping to see more tourists...Shifting away from fossil fuel-economy when your economy is based on fossil fuels is costly...

On top of that the US-via fracking-became the largest global oil producer (again...it had that position early 20th century as well)..however most of it for own (over) consumption...Saudi Arabia was the #1 producer for some time...may not have liked the US taking over the #1 producer-position...

Russia and Saudi Arabia-in a way-both now have religion in a main role...orthodox and "more outspoken" Islam may mix quite well...

Oil producers also tend to move away from the US=petro-dollar...to see their own currencies gaining a larger role...Of course that is weakening the $...printing/creating even more dollars (QE) may have reached its limits...Fiat currencies are "pumped up" to the limit...so "the west" has a problem...the real value of dollar, Euro, Pound, Yen may be hardly a shadow-in international trade-of what "the west" likes...so

Wars..

are the logical outcome..."west against the rest"the 10% rich countries against the 90% not that rich countries...

In fact this is a war over global economic dominance...the "west" would like to keep the rest poor...The 'rest" has had enough of it...

https://halturnerradioshow.com/index.php/en/news-page/world/kinderlandverschickung or https://halturnerradioshow.com/index.php/en/news-page/world/kinderlandverschickung ;

Russian authorities in Kherson Oblast announced that all schoolchildren will be evacuated to Crimea, to "spend their Autumn holidays."  In reality, this is, as the Germans called it,  "Kinderlandverschickung."

Officials from the region say that schools will stay closed until the 21st of October for security reasons, which also necessitate evacuation.

It is described in C.S. Lewis' "Narnia"-series. This means, that heavy bombardment of the cities is expected, and they're moving the kids out before it beginsHIGHWAY TO HELL

With no off-ramp.

This is what's being shared by the overwhelming majority of Russian channels. Possibly leaked from a source way up in the command chain - and/or about to be established in a position of power.

Not necessarily the road map ahead. But certainly reflecting a consensus. Don't expect any confirmation from the MoD.

Destroying Ukraine's power supply nodes.
Hitting rail and road logistics hubs.
Destruction of tunnels and bridges.
Destruction of all buildings housing government offices.
Elimination of Ukraine's political leadership.
Diversionary operations to undermine military supply, training, intelligence, etc. hubs in Poland, Germany, Romania, the Baltics, England... It should be a massive attack.
Internationalization of armed forces, involvement of allies: Vietnam, North Korea, armed formations from CIS countries, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Africa, etc.
Procurement and supply of troops at the expense of military allies. Nothing more to be embarrassed about.
Strikes on military satellites of western countries over Ukraine.
. Air defense, a no-fly zone over Ukraine, REB.
Destroying strategically important dams.
Carrying out a tightly controlled, detailed, and coordinated offensive operation.

DJ..Hal Turner is not always a good source...but children being evacuated to Crimea makes sense...Internationalization of-a.o.-the war in Ukraine may allready be happening.

It most likely was discussed in the latest SCO-meeting in Samarkand...Russia, Iran, China are "partners"...but "Afghan (Taliban ???) forces"? In Iraq, Syria there are Afghan militia fighting on the side of Iran...North Korea would be willing to "send 100,000 military" ...others expect North Korea may get involved in reconstruction, building...Vietnam has "a history" with China...

My impression on the present state of the Ukraine war is Russia has-for now-decided Ukraine forces can keep attacking...with heavy losses...For political reasons Russia want to "limit" exposure in Ukraine...If need be further Russian escalation however may be destruction of (civil) infrastructure-to deny NATO-Ukraine forces movement...and then destroy the Ukraine army and leadership...

I do have my doubts on Poland taking over some western segments of Ukraine...both Kiev and Moscow may not accept that...(it also would still mean NATO moving east).

I do think there are "lots of talks" between Russia and "Ukrainians"...between Russia and European countries (direct and-a.o. via Saudi Arabia indirect)...Russia may wait with a major-final-offensive-to take over ALL of Ukraine (before the end of this year) to give talks a chance...

Next week, next month, end of the year. You're about 0 for 10 on your predictions based on the trash that you worship. Rapists, pedophiles, felons, and self admitted drug addicts and mental patients aren't the best sources. Shunned by society, unemployed, and unwanted,  they post their rubbish from their rooms counting on clicks from their ignorant followers. Actually, it's probably for the best that these animals aren't walking the streets....

A growing number of Russian military veterans have come to the conclusion that Putin’s war in Ukraine is unwinnable.  As UKR’s counter-offensive continues, these  voices are becoming more numerous. https://themoscowtimes.com/2022/10/03/we-

A nice birthday present for putin and his puppets....

A new video published online shows significant damage inflicted on the Crimean Bridge following reported explosions in the early morning of Oct. 8. The illegally constructed bridge links the Russian-occupied Ukrainian peninsula Crimea with mainland Russia via the Kerch Strait.

Elizabeth Tsurkov, a fellow at the Newlines Institute for Strategy and Policy, a think-tank based in Washington, DC, tweeted that Russia was claiming the Kerch bridge could not be attacked just months ago.

She wrote:

Only 3 months ago, Russian propaganda was claiming that the Crimea bridge was impossible to attack because of 20 different modes of protection covering it, including military dolphins. What a colossal failure.

However, a truck bomb earlier today caused a fire and the collapse of a section of the bridge linking Russia-annexed Crimea with Russia, Russian officials said, damaging a key supply artery for Moscow’s faltering war effort in southern Ukraine.

The speaker of Crimea’s Kremlin-backed regional parliament immediately accused Ukraine, though the Kremlin didn’t apportion blame. Ukrainian officials have repeatedly threatened to strike the bridge and some lauded the attack, but Kyiv stopped short of claiming responsibility.

https://www.zerohedge.com/political/poll-growing-number-americans-want-diplomacy-adversaries or https://www.zerohedge.com/political/poll-growing-number-americans-want-diplomacy-adversaries ;

According to a new survey of Americans, a growing majority desire negotiations with Washington’s enemies. For example, nearly 80% of people polled said they want the White House to continue nuclear talks with Iran.

The Eurasia Group Foundation released a new survey asking Americans if our government should negotiate with adversaries. Nearly twice as many Americans said they want more talks compared to those calling for less diplomacy

Since Joe Biden became president, Washington’s relationship with Moscow, Beijing, Pyongyang and Tehran has become more contentious. However, the increasingly hostile White House is not reflective of the American public. Year-over-year the poll shows an increase in Americans favoring diplomacy over isolation.

The pollsters also found overwhelming support for negotiations with Iran. When asked, "Do you think the US should continue to pursue negotiations to prevent Iran from obtaining or developing a nuclear weapon in the near future?" 78.8 of Americans said yes, including over 70% of Republicans

Biden campaigned on engaging Tehran and returning to the nuclear agreement that President Barack Obama helped create. President Donald Trump illegally exited in 2018.

The Biden White House has largely adopted the hardline position of the Trump administration, expanding the “maximum pressure” campaign, piling on additional sanctions, and preventing the US from reentering the nuclear deal.

On Russia-Ukraine, the poll found that "Avoiding a direct war between the US and Russia was the highest ranked goal across all party affiliations. This was followed by preventing the suffering of the Ukrainian people."

While Americans prefer engagement with adversaries, politicians in Washington largely advocate for an isolationist path Republican Senator from North Carolina Thom Tillis recently said talking with Iran was ill-advised. Democratic Senator Bob Menendez is a well-known Iran hawk and has repeatedly expressed his opposition to a diplomatic agreement with Tehran.

DJ...Again what is wrong with diplomacy and trying to understand other countries concerns on a.o. safety...

Negotiating with terrorist nations rarely works out. When Putin is ready to pull his troops out of Ukraine there could be talks. If he continues terrorizing a sovereign nation with his unprovoked invasion, his troops will be physically removed. Defeating russia is how you prevent WW3.

Three in four Americans say U.S. should support Ukraine despite Russian threats, Reuters/Ipsos poll shows

WASHINGTON, Oct 5 (Reuters) - Nearly three-quarters of Americans say that the United States should continue to support Ukraine, despite Russian threats that it could use nuclear weapons to protect its territory, according to a Reuters/Ipsos opinion poll released on Wednesday.

The polling suggested continuing backing for President Joe Biden's provision of weapons systems, training and other military assistance for President Volodymyr Zelenskiy's government, despite concerns that the war might escalate if Ukraine is provided longer-range weapons that could hit Russia.

-NL has now 75,000 Ukraine refugees. About 25,000 of them would like to stay in NL (or another western country)-50,000 of them would like to return-when possible to the Ukraine. Worsening of the situation could bring up to 200.000 Ukraine refugess...since they have an EU-linked status they are allowed to stay in the EU for two years, can work, language training...

Some estimates put the number of Ukrainians now outside Ukraine at 8 to 10 million out of the 43,2 million Ukraine population.

Renewable energy may become a larger factor for some European countries faster then expected-decreasing the demand for fossil fuel...both from Russia, Middle East or the US...

DJ-My estimate is Germany/France may be in talks (via Saudi Arabia) with Russia...Russia may be able/willing to repair some damage on North Stream pipelines...

The attack on the Crimea-bridge may be a US action (via a Syrian IS ally) to further provoke Russia...

With winter on its way Europe is under pressure for "a way out"....
