I notice the membership roster is growing and is it just me, or are there more guests on at all times?
Maybe just in my head, but it seems like we seeing more people interested anyway. And I have been off several days lately and had more time to play on the net, so that may be all there is to it. |

Hello everyone...I have been one of the "guests" lurking around on here for over a month now. I feel like I sort of belong here, since no one in my family is hearing what I have to say. At least here I know I can find the support and information I need. Anyway, I just wanted to pop in and say hello

Thank You! I need all the support I can get! I am very upset about BF and like I said before, no one around me is taking it seriously. They think I am being paranoid, going insane or being obsessive/compulsive. I may have to agree with the latter, as I have been known to have those tendancies, but this time it is for a real reason! It's hard for me to get thru the day with no one to talk to about this. No one where I work ever mentions it unless they are making some stupid joke about it and I just sit there thinking how in the world can so many people be so blind???? I feel so alienated and so alone and so very frightened and sick over this. It's nice to know that I have a place to come to where I am not alone. |

Believe me you are not alone or are the only one in that boat! Listen to these good folks and feel free to ask all the questions you want. The only stupid questions are those that are unasked. They are a wealth of info and great support! Don't fell like you are the only one out there because you are not. Now start prepping! LOL Meewee |

I've managed to talk one of my sisters into preparing for the BF. My mom and dad really got burned by the Y2K scare so I dont think they are interested in preparing all over again. Either that or they still have enough of the stuff that they dont need to prepare much more. My Mom seems to have a "bring it on" attitude.

Yes, Chicken Hawk, I think everyone understands the anxiety that you feel. When I bring the subject of creating a flu contingency plan at work, I am generally met by disdainful rolling of the eyes and comments that I'm too negative. Nonetheless, I feel if a pandemic of this magnitude has happened before, it can certainly happen again especially with the bold warnings from modern day scientists and epidemiologists. The sense of impending urgency within kind of reminds me of the movie "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" when only a few were aware of what was really going on. Of course, that movie was fiction but it does stoke an image of what panic or despair can do to society such as what was seen in the hurricane devastation last year. |

ChickenHawk, Just wanted to throw my welcome at ya too! Most of us here know what it's like to think "I'm crazy", "I'm being obsessive/compulsive", "I'm being paranoid". Maybe we are, time will tell. But let me ask you this... how much money do you spend each year for your different insurances? Car, home, flood, health, disability? Are you being paranoid by having them, year in and year out even though you may never or rarely draw upon them? Nope. You are being prudent and responsible. There is something different about us, I will admit that. Don't know what it is though. Maybe before this is all over we will figure it out. Maybe there is a "Prepping Gene" that we all have that makes us aware of possible impending danger and a subsequent need to do what we can to soften the blow. Be assured that we will help as best we are able with any questions you may have or emotional support you may need. Hey, I even have a special thread for temper tantrums if you just want to vent about your "DNG's" (Doesn't Get Its) also known as deliberately clueless. You will find it in the Bird Flu Discussion Forum thread "How I'm Doing Today", it's stickied to the top. Debi |

It used to be common practice not to long ago to put back supplies for the winter and next growing season. Why are we laughed at today and intimidated for doing just like our fore fathers? This just in time ecomony can kiss my A"S. I will not be bullied by those who live in this modern day experiment from pay day to pay day. If most people nowadays in America don't go to the store on the weekend they will be out of food by monday. And they criticize us for wanting to stock up like the old timers. don't let them do it to ya. give 'em hell back! |

When they are starving and sick and broke they will wish to God they were listening. It's like that with many things in the world. The liberals have been preaching let the Government take care of you...give welfare to the unwilling to work for it poor....your job should support you after you retire....WHAT? sound an awful lot like communism to me. When will people learn to save for their future? Can you imagine how independent people would be if from age 18 they had saved just 5% of their after tax income. By 60 they would be set for the rest of their life. |

Hi, I've also been lurking in the background and reading avidly each
evening. I'm way out here in Australia and as my family all live
in Europe, have this real fear that I'll never see them again.
It's scarey as my husband doesn't have my concerns and so I keep it all
inside.

Can you leave Australia and go visit them? Or maybe have them visit you for a while? If we can make it through the winter months without H5N1 recombining with a human flu virus, then we shoiuld be okay for awhile. The Pandemic risk will decrease somewhat after March, which is after flu season. Are we going to make it until March without it making the jump to h2h, who knows.... My guess is no. Having said all of this, why don't you try to fgiure out a way for your entire family to be together over the next 30 days or so? Maybe take a leave from work or an extended vacation. Or at least have a last minute plan that you can put into action that will get all of you together at the last minute. Because of this forum, you will most likely have a jump on the rest of the world before they figure out what is actually happening. You guys will have a window of opportunity to sneak away from where ever you are at the last minute to be together, but, you have to start making some sort of plans now. You will have time to get together before it starts. Timing is everything. If you're going to wait until the last minute, just have a real good plan in place. You will have to fly back and do all of your preps within about 48 hours. But that can be done! |

There is another option. Have your family get their pneumonia vaccinations, which means you will all survive it. Then at least you can see them on the other side of the pandemic? Have you and your family had a pneumonia vaccination yet? Not a flu shot, but a pneumonia shot? Have you read this thread below? |

I have told very few people myself. When I say bird flu most ask" well what is bird flu anyway?"Or they say its "not here in America...so why think about it." I have asked have you gone to the CDC, WHO, US goverment web sites? All say no . When I hear that type of statement I become a clam,or change the subject. Why ...because they look at me like I'm from Mars. I'm tempted to say why was Noah's Ark so empty?IMHO if more medical persons spoke up, people would listen. Sad fact is they to are divided on this subject.

Print out some of the WHO warnings or our own president's warnings about Bird Flu and put them on the refrigerator. THAT might get their attention. |

I think just keeping my sights on what's happening globally (thank god
for the internet) and in particular this site, eases my mind
somewhat. Travelling from Australia to England takes a minimum of
24 hrs with a stop-over in Asia.
Just viewing this site gives me courage. Thanks for the support. |

I have been thinking about this all for a while, and decided tonite to finally see what's out there in terms of info and resources. Suffice it to say, I've read all I can handle and not go off the deep end, and almost, almost wish that I hadn't looked into things. But I have... I am scared to death. For me, my family and my friends. I'm from small town rural Alberta, Canada. We don't talk about BF - at all. I think from what I've read, I feel safer here than anywhere else, but all the same, it doesn't look good does it? I appreciate the ideas and planning that I've found here. My fear is, it's too late anyways, if this is really only a few months away. But a little planning is better than none at all, so a way I go. |

Red Snapper, glad you found your way here. Please don't give up before you have even started! You are still WAY ahead of the panic hoard and much can be done. If you have any questions please feel free to ask them. We have all been in the exact same spot you are in. And this is a great group for moral support. BTW: a small town in Alberta sounds about like heaven to me! |

A few weeks ago on the local (pretty sure it was channel 9) six o'clock
news there was a section on bird flu with numerical estimates on how
many people would die in our area/city/state if this pandemic
hits. You could have knocked me over with a feather. The
news went on to say how underequiped our hospitals are to handle any
pandemics. The numbers were in the 10's of thousands. The
report was sanctioned by our state premier who's commentary was that
the public should know. The leader of the opposing party also
concurred! This report was what got me on the bird flu info trail.
Since then there have been almost daily bits covering the Turkish outbreak, Indonesia, conference in Beijing etc. ABC did have a lengthy section on the 7:30 report at the beginning of this week on the seriousness of the real threat of a pandemic. After watching it I think my husband is starting to believe there actually is something happening. |

Oh I forgot, this last post was in reply to SopieZoe's question about the media handling in Australia.
Sorry I haven't quite got the knack of all this yet |

No need to panic. Just get the pneumonia vaccination and buy extra supplies. Again, roughly 50% of the pop won't even get it. Everybody and their families on this forum are going to be on the 50% that don't get it. Or at least that don't die from it. Here is what you have to do in order: 1.) Go to the top of the forum and read the entire thread that has the heading "Pneumonia Vaccine List". Read the entire thread. 2.) Do what the thread that you just read indicates that you should do regarding the pneumonia shot. 3.) Buy all of the extra supplies that you can afford to buy. To assist you, click on the forum on this site called "Pandemic Survival Tips". There are ideas on that forum as to what to buy.

Hello, guys : This is Pola's mother ,my name is Pauline,I have been very concern about the BF for a long time now! As a matter of fact I went to China,Vietnam, thailand,etc.. in march of 2004 and was very freaked with the BF and the Sars...We took a 30 days cruise from bangkok to venise and 75% of the passengers got sick with some kind of flu ! So for the last 2 years I have been telling a lot of people about what I saw in the Orient, and like a lot of you know by now , they think I am craizy BUT....I DONT GIVE A @#*^%*........ I am getting ready !!! You see I live in Miami so come January I allways start buying all the huracane provisions and everybody still think I am exagerating! But when we got hit by all the huracanes the last 2 years everybody ended in my house because i had EVERYTHING! but , NOT NOW!!!!!!! nobody is comming in or out of my house. So ,dont mind what they think about you ,keep getting ready ,because IT IS GETTING HERE VERY SOON!! I meen you dont have to be a rocket scientist to see how BF has been moving and developing in the last year specially in the last 2 months I tell you I am very scared . I am one of the persons that have been looking at this site for some time now so sorry if I wrote to mush . thankyou for all the infomations and support .

Pauline, Nice to hear from you! I sympathize about your friends thinking your nuts preparing for hurricanes ( I do the same every year) your not alone being laughed at! No one understands the BF prep either. But like you, I don't give a rat's patutie either! Having lived through Hugo in '89 and 6 weeks no electricity or water I know first hand what it's like to be thrown back to the 19th century. No banks. No ATM's. No cash. No gas. No water. No groceries at the store. No baby formula. No diapers. No telephone. No TV. No medical care. No pharmacy. No working toilet. No shower. I SWORE ON ALL I HOLD HOLY that I would never be in that position again if I could prevent it. I don't care who laughs at me. |
