New York's Cuomo says 3 children have died from coronavirus-related mystery ailmentGov. Andrew Cuomo said Saturday that three young children in New York have died after being hospitalized with a rare and mysterious COVID-19 related illness. One of the deaths was a 5-year-old boy on Thursday. At his daily coronavirus briefing in Manhattan, Cuomo said the news was “disturbing.” “This is the last thing we need at this time,” he said. New York hospitals have reported 73 cases involving children experiencing symptoms similar to Kawasaki disease and toxic shock-like syndrome possibly due to COVID-19. Cuomo said the illness has been found mostly in toddlers and children of elementary school age. "These children happen to have the COVID antibodies or be positive for COVID," he said. "But those were not the symptoms they showed when they came in to the hospital system." He told reporters that the Center for Disease Control has asked New York to develop national criteria so that other hospitals in the U.S. will know what to look for if the case warrants. The New York State Department of Health has issued an advisory about the inflammatory disease, called "Pediatric Multi-System Inflammatory Syndrome Associated with COVID-19," informing hospitals and doctors of the condition, as well as guidance for testing and reporting. 15 CHILDREN IN NEW YORK CITY HOSPITALIZED WITH MYSTERY AILMENT LINKED TO CORONAVIRUS: REPORT Cuomo said at the briefing that the number of new coronavirus cases in the state fell to its lowest level since the crisis first began in late March. He said 226 New Yorkers had died from the virus on Friday, which was a slight increase from the 216 deaths on Thursday. CLICK FOR THE LATEST ON THE CORONAVIRUS There have been more than 26,000 COVID-19 deaths in New York since the crisis began. On Friday, Cuomo said New York has shown success in containing the virus. Comment by FluMom: If this continues NO ONE will put their kids back in school in the fall until this gets resolved! Can you imagine kids dying all over the U.S. with this...still say this is a LAB grown virus! |

I hope that this remains rare - at least as rare as flu deaths among children. According to CDC data, the average number of pediatric deaths due to flu has been 125 a year since reporting became compulsory. This past year has been more moderate for adults, but currently deaths for children are at 174 [Statistically this is still within one standard deviation, so this could just be part of the normal range] - although earlier comments indicate that it will be a bad year for child deaths. |

This won't change anyone's game. The agenda will continue. The CDC has asked NY HHS to create a criteria for other states on recognizing and dealing with this. There's a part of me that wonders why isn't the CDC here doing this. But right now I'm trusting NY HHS more than I trust the CDC on anything pertaining to this virus! |

At the early stages of this outbreak, it was noted here that the CDC had suffered from significant funding cuts in recent years - so maybe they don't have the resources needed for everything that we think they should be doing. |

I understand what you're saying, Edwin. But I think there's something else going on here. Something pertaining to the 17 page CDC recommendations being classified instead of released. I'm not a conspiracy theorist, per se, but there is a very large red flag waving here. |

I haven't been following it to closely, but I agree with you that if a CDC report is classified then I too would be worried, and would want to know what is being hidden from the general public. |
