Your money or your life

Jack Benny, a comedian from a different era, noted for being a miser, told this joke:

He’s walking in a dark alley and someone sticks a gun in his ribs and says:

“Your money or your life!”

Some period of time goes by and the robber says “Well, which is it?”

Jack Benny says: “I’m thinking. I’m thinking“

Many in the US are now in the position of having to choose between their job and infection with SARS-2.

If you are 60+ and in a position to retire, you may make one calculation. If you are in your thirties and your entire life savings are tied up in a small business you may make another. This is the root of the conflict we are now experiencing over opening up.

Another factor to consider. Health care workers depend on seeing patients for their livelihood. Yet, reopening when infections are high threatens both their lives, through increased risk of infection, and their livelihood because they cannot see patients for anything but SARS-2. If that continues, hospitals will go bankrupt and health care workers will not be able to see patients for any reason. For those idiots threatening health care workers, if we lose advanced medical care, don’t expect to live much past 50.

This nightmare situation is due to the most astonishing levels of incompetence in public health imaginable, at every level, federal, State and municipal. 

Politicians and their trained seals in public health are ignoring both facts and reason. Movement restrictions, social distancing, testing and masks are the only way to save lives and to save the economy.

The refusal of politicians to apply what we know that works,  suggests to me that there is something deeply wrong with our political system. We are electing people with small brains to positions where they are making life or death (mostly death) decisions about us.

Other countries have faced the same issues we have. Yet, many have decreased their cases to low levels and have been able to safely restart their economies. Why can’t we do this?

Masks

Many who read this blog already know a lot about masks. But for those who don’t: in order of effectiveness: N95s, surgical masks, cloth masks.

N95s are very hard to obtain right now and should be reserved primarily for health care workers and other essential workers. If you have an N95 with a valve, do not wear it in public. This style will protect you but will not protect others from your droplets.

 There are different grades of surgical or procedure masks. The ones that fit closest around your face are best. They are not reusable. Cloth masks are of doubtful value in protecting you. But if everyone wears one, there will be greater group safety because the cloth masks will capture at least some of the droplets produced by the wearers of the masks.

War with China

We are once again hearing talk about the possibility that SARS-2 came from a laboratory in China.

Cynics will say that this is an attempt to deflect blame away from a disastrous US response to the pandemic. This may be true. But that does not mean that the virus did not come from a lab in Wuhan.

One thing that has been missing from this discussion is context. “Science” journalists, who often have a very limited understanding of science, and scientists who often have a very limited understanding of anything but where their next grant is going to come from, ignore the fact that Xi Jinping is an absolute dictator bent on world domination. [Yes, I know that sounds over dramatic and hackneyed. But it is what it is].

In the US, we still have discussions about slavery (which ended 160 years ago in our country) and the consequences of this evil on subsequent generations. This is entirely appropriate.

But shouldn’t we pay attention to the fact Xi Jinping has ordered the enslavement of over a million Uyghurs? And I should say it is the lucky ones who are still slaves. Others have already been tortured to death in unspeakable medical experiments and procedures.

Xi Jinping has recently destroyed the last vestige of freedom in Hong Kong violating China’s treaty with the UK. This is happening right now. Yet, you scarcely see a mention of it in the mainstream media.

Xi Jinping recently ordered an invasion of India which some say successfully annexed part of that country to China. The Chinese military is rapidly building up invasion forces for a wide range of possible targets including Taiwan and the Philippines (and later, Australia).

Really, when you add up all of the activities of Xi Jinping and the Chinese military, it is pretty obvious that they are getting ready for War. Only a fool could not see this. There were plenty of fools who ignored the many warning signs that Hitler provided before WWII. We do not seem to have any fewer in the run up to WWIII.

Consider the above and then ask yourself: is it possible that the pandemic that has killed over a half of a million people, so far, was deliberately initiated by Xi Xinping?

There are many levels of possible culpability. But the one that cannot be denied was that he deliberately withheld critical information at key times. His actions led directly to the deaths of so many. Why isn’t he being held responsible for this? What do you think he will do next if appeasement continues? If you don’t know, read a book.
