please excuse a newbie if this has been covered, but i swear i did a search and didnt find this topic....
i have been slowly collecting different basic medical books to help me understand the basics of caregiving and helping in an emergency situation if TSHTF. i would like to know what you all have gathered for yourselves as i want to know what would be helpful and what i might be missing. this is what i have so far: harrisons principles of internal medicine where there is no doctor where there is no dentist green pharmacy first responder professional guide to signs and symptoms emergency care and transportation basic medical -surgical nursing herbal medicine makers handbook emergency war surgery the herb book merck manual i have read most of them a couple of times and a few of then several times.. im not expecting to do brain surgery--im just looking for basic info to help my family. if you have any suggestions, i sure would appreciate them. thankyou, jazzy |

Hi Jazzy,
Great list.
I have a couple of those books. I have bought several others, but they are not worth mentioning. Two books I would recommend are The Bird Flu Manual by Dr. Grattan Woodson - you can get it at Amazon, and Backpacker, Wilderness 911 by Eric A. Weiss, M.D. I got a copy of Dr. Grattan Wodson's The Bird Flu Manual long ago. My copy is very small compared to the 300 + pages in the new version, but I would recommend this book highly. I just got the Wilderness 911 book recently. It is not flu related, but it contains very good information. It is geared toward individuals that like to go camping and offers extensive information on what to do when you are hurt or sick and are on your own.
I hope this helps.
