HI gang i was just thinking about "Home Fortifications" for want of a better word.It has been mentioned slightly in the Protection and self defence post, but most of it was on firearms.I think we should think a bit more about the home not just because where i am firearms are illegal(U.K)lol, but in the States where most most of the good people on this site are from, almost everyone will have a fire arm if not before the SHTF then when they run into the nearest place that stocks them, and you need something thats defendable, otherwise all the guns in the world wont count count for squat.I myself first thought of boarding the ground floor windows up with sheets of would when if it gets really bad for yobs and looters. Also thought about razor wire and more locks on doors but it just does not seem like thats good enough.Or on the other hand would it be better just to try an be invisable and do nothing to the house?,Because if people see boards up and razor wire they are bound to asume i have supplies.Well thats my bit what do you lot think?.Cheers gang

I think this is the going to be the weak link in the survival plan if it comes to that. Wood houses and glass windows are just too easy to breach. Killing the looters will work for a while but if they decide to torch the place for fun or spite you'll have to flee into the night and will probably be killed. I have thought about building a "safe room" of sorts in the basement of concrete and steel but I can't bring myself to spend the money on it...short-sighted perhaps, but at this time the effort really doesn't seem worth it. I do have a few tricks up my sleeve to hide in my home without being found out but don't know if that will be my choice if it comes to that. 3/4 inch plywood over windows and doors held with 3" wood screws would keep a few people out, put again, if it turns into a "Shawn of the Dead" scenerio there's not much we are going to be able to do but either join up with the gangs, team up in a neighborhood defense force, or perish.

Yeah i know what you mean. Our houses over in the uk are mostly brick. You have a good idea about making a "Strong hold" But your right in also saying it will bound to be heavy on the cash. For wood house i would suggest fire extingushes or buckets of sand in every room
