Hi all,
I was wondering what peoples opinions on antibird flu products are. I have heard lots of people say normal soap and water kills the bird flu virus as do most normal disinfectants. But I have been reading lots of info about log count kill, and that soap and water would only kill 99%, which is not sufficuent to reduce transmission. Does anyone know of any products that kill more that 99% or that have been proven to specifically kill the H5N1 strain, do such products even exist? Do people acutally have the strain to be tested against? Thanks Kate |

I just read about a new product called Clinell wipes on a website http://www.orderhealthcare.com/ . Apperently its proven to kill the bird flu virus. What do people think? Is this all a hype? Apparently it was invented by two doctors who run a company GAMA Healthcare http://www.gamahealthcare.com/ . Also talk about two new products a hand sanitiser and a spray all proven to kill the bird flu virus http://www.gamahealthcare.com/clinell.html

Ladies, when this thing goes H2H, you might want to cut your nails if you wear them long as it's difficult to clean under long nails sufficiently.

Kate and Borris- it's common for people to come to this site and try to introduce a new product serepticiously by bringing it up as a question and placing the website in the comments. I would ask you to be direct with us if that is what you are doing. This really isn't the place to hawk a product, though we are all open to discussing various products, we just like to have direct and open discussion.

I think the bleach water and Lysol are the items that will be the most available to the general public and the easiest and most economical to get for most people. I have bleach and Lysol stocked, I should get more though since I keep using the bleach for the laundry.

Yes, pool shock does store longer. Ours is in a dry powder form. Check out the sodium hypoclorite % when you purchase though, some is higher than others. We have an inground pool and purchase our pool supplies at a pool supply store it has a higher %. Places like Walmart, K Mart, and other stores also sell shock, but their actual % versus inert ingredients is much lower, so you have to use alot more of it to get the same effect. Some also have added ingredients for mold inhibitors and such added, you don't want those if you are going to use for drinking water. You want plain shock with NO added ingredients. The only place I have found it with no added ingredients is the pool supply store.

Those bast***ds!!
Actually, you've got an excellent memory, Hydrangea!! Wish I could find my keys...I could get out of here! I agree, it's a good thing to discuss just the same. Like Happy, I've been stockpiling tons of lysol (have always used it and loved it), bleach, bleach, bleach, lestoil, yada yada yada . I use Baquacil in my pool and have been meaning to check into any alternative use (probably - not as it's chlorine free). If anyone knows, please post. I'm getting a little "shy" to say the least with the questions in this town -- pretty soon, they'll be "labeling" me... Sometime back, I read about a product called "Dettol" manufactured in Britain which was supposedly one of the LEADING products in effectiveness against the bird flu. And, not to mention, By Appointment to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II!! They don't call me GULLIBLE for NOTHINNNNNN!! Got somewhere around a 100 oz's of it in concentrated form. When it arrived, I realized it was actually a first aid antiseptic. Oh well, maybe we'll do cat washes with it when we're really getting scared...Thankful4U , aka the rambler...! Smiles Pam |

I'm not so sure that posting products and a products forum that have the correct accreditations is SPAM. I posted product information here simply because it's a product information link. Correctly used chlorine is effective but the problem is that when it's in solution it immediately starts to lose it's strength. Powder and tablet form is better. The product I posted has been independently tested by an accredited laboratory and also accredited by the UK governments' UK Health Protection Agency. It is far more effective than bleach or chlorine based products and safe to use. At the end of the day if information is posted it's up to the reader whether or not they find it useful.
