I live in Waller County, Texas.  On January 22, 2008, we attended a meeting regarding the Trans Texas Corridor (TTC).  We were shown on a map that our property lies in the path of the I-69 section of the TTC, the southern leg of the NAFTA Superhighway.  It was explained to us that under Governor Rick Perry's new "Quick Take" law, they can take our land and they don't have to pay fair compensation.  We were told that we will be "relocated by the government" and we will be "removed by force" if necessary.  The NAFTA Superhighway has been called a "myth" by President Bush.  He calls it fear mongering, but it is no secret in Canada or Mexico.  Their politicians speak publicly about it.  The Canadian government announced in a public "Throne Speech" that they have the agreements with our federal and state governments and businesses to complete the corridor.  Millions of people will be displaced by this monstrosity.  It won't be only farmers, like me, it will be churches, schools. whole subdivisions, businesses.  Entire communities will be wiped out.  Swaths of land taken for the corridor will be 2 to 5 miles wide.  Waller County will have to disincorporate, as it is a long, narrow county and the corridor takes nearly all of it.  When Ron Paul tried to warn people in the debate, Mitt Romney delivered President Bush's line saying, "Isn't that a myth?"  He and John McCain laughed.  They laughed because they KNOW it's not a myth and they also know that the American people will not heed the warning.  You will not know it is coming until it is too late to get out of the pathway.  Once you know that your home or your land is in the path of the NASCO NAFTA Superhighway, it will be valueless, unsaleable.  Who would buy it?  In south Texas, millions of people will lose their homes, their jobs, everything.  I will try to post the NASCO map, but this is only the first corridor.  There are two others that do not appear on most maps.  One runs up the west coast of California, the other up the eastern part of the U.S. with multiple intersecting corridors leading from southern legs to different places on the Canadian border.  Do some research.  Find out what is really going on before you find yourself in the path of the Corridor with nowhere to go.  NASCO maintains that they are only improving existing trade routes, but THERE IS NO EXISTING TRADE ROUTE THROUGH MY FARM!  The first Bush dreamed up NAFTA, Bill Clinton signed it, and the current President Bush is pushing it through as fast as possible.  Rick Perry expects to the GOP vice presidential candidate as his reward for selling out the state of Texas.  A Spanish company will collect the tolls from this highway.  Americans will pay to build it but they will not see a penny in return.  I voted for President Bush last time.  I was voting myself out of my own home.  Mitt Romney is Bush's hand picked successor.  He gave his "religion speech" at the George Herbert Walker Bush Memorial Library at Texas A&M University, in College Station, TX.  The retail politicians all drink at the same trough.  There is no real difference between them.  It's probably too late for us here in Texas.  The I-35 leg of the TTC is nearly complete and the state is here now, telling us we will have no choice but to leave our homes.  But, maybe, if other people will investigate what's going on down here, they can make their votes count to save their own homes.  RON PAUL IS THE ONLY CANDIDATE WHO IS COMMITTED TO STOPPING THE NAFTA SUPERCORRIDOR

I'm here BG.

I will say this, show me a person who doesn't get a little upset over politics and I will show you someone who doesn't care.   People might tend to get a little riled up at times, but that's only because they care about what's happening in this country.  That is not a bad thing.

In this new age of online forums, which now provide a public venue for people to easily gather and to air their opinions, public debates are going to be the way of the future.  It's difficult for groups to normally gather and to exchange views and ideas, but it's obviously no longer that difficult because of the use of internet forums.  Since we are providing somewhat of a public venue like this, we almost have an obligation to let people debate a wide range of important issues.  Let's hope our Bill of Rights are more than just words.

Having said all of that, if we ever discuss sensitive topics here, the most important thing to remember is "no personal attacks" on anyone with an opposing view.  If you start getting upset, maybe a take a break for awhile, but please do not engage in any personal attacks and insults.

Also-- We will start a new presidential voting poll later today to see if we get any different poll results.  I think some people may have changed candidates, especially since coleyounger has been campaigning so hard.

Romney has hired illegal immigrants
http://www.realchange.org/romney.htm
The only problem is, Romney has hired illegal immigrants to tend his gardens for over 10 years. Three illegal immigrants interviewed by the Boston Globe said they have worked on Romney's lawn

for years
,
that he greets them with a "Buenos dias", and that his wife was friendly and often asks how they are. Two were interviewed back in Guatemala, where they have returned. They made $8 to $9 per hour working 11 hour days. "They wanted that house to look really nice," said one worker, now back in Copado, Guatemala. "It took a long time." The other, Rene Alvarez Rosales (now in Suchitepequez, Guatemala) said it cost him about $5,000 to have a smuggler take him across the border.

Romney leads in National pole.                  2008 Republican Presidential Primary
It’s a Two Man Race for the GOP Nomination
Monday, January 28, 2008
Advertisment
A week ago, Rasmussen Reports noted that if John McCain wins Florida, he may be close to unstoppable in the race for the Republican nomination. Nothing has happened in the past week to alter that assessment, but McCain’s prospects in Florida remain far from certain. The Arizona Senator finds himself in a Sunshine State toss-up with former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney. (Today's Daily Presidential Tracking Poll shows Romney at 28% nationally and McCain at 26%)

Given the importance of Florida, the Rasmussen Reports weekly analysis of the GOP race will be updated on Wednesday this week.

While no one knows who will win Florida at this moment, it is worth noting how much the GOP race has changed since South Carolina. For most of the year, the Republican nomination field was crowded with five candidates in double digits and no one able to gain a lasting advantage. It is now clearly a two-man race.

In fact, it is now distinctly possible that the GOP nomination could be wrapped up before the Democrats select their candidate. While South Carolina clarified things for Republicans, it had the opposite impact on the Democratic race.

As the two-man finals play out, Romney will present himself as the champion of conservatives in general and economic conservatives in particular. McCain will present himself as a “foot soldier” in the Reagan Revolution and a national security conservative. However, many conservatives will paint the Arizona Senator as closer to Hillary Clinton than Ronald Reagan.

Polls in Florida and nationally present potentially good news for both men. The economy is seen as the top voting issue which could help Romney. But, Republican voters say it’s more important to select a President who can handle national security issues. That’s partly because Republicans tend to prefer a government that stays out of the way on economic matters.

Nationally, Romney leads McCain 36% to 21% among conservatives likely to vote in a Republican Primary. McCain leads Romney 41% to 12% among moderate voters. The good news for Romney is that there are more conservatives than moderates.

Rasmussen Reports conducts national telephone surveys on the Presidential race every night and releases updated data from our Presidential Tracking Poll by noon each day.

Those results are based upon a four-day rolling average and provide a quick update on the race.

In addition to the daily tracking poll, Rasmussen Reports provides weekly results to provide a longer-term overview of the race. These updates are based upon nightly telephone surveys. Results are reported based upon interviews conducted on the seven days up to and including the night before posting.

For the seven days ending January 27, 2007, John McCain led the GOP race with 26% support followed by Mitt Romney at 25% and Mike Huckabee at 17%. Rudy Giuliani picked up 12%, Ron Paul’s support for the week is at 5% while 15% are either undecided or supported candidates no longer running (review history of weekly results).

The seven day results typically include interviews with more than 1,200 Likely Republican Primary Voters. This includes both Republicans and those independents likely to vote in a Republicans Primary. In some state primaries, independent voters are allowed to participate in party primaries while in others they are excluded. The margin of sampling error for the weekly update is +/- 3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence.

Updates prior to July 16 were based upon four days of polling conducted the Monday through Thursday preceding release.

Rasmussen Reports continuously updates general election match-ups and other key stats for all Republican and Democratic Presidential candidates.

Rasmussen Reports is an electronic publishing firm specializing in the collection, publication, and distribution of public opinion polling information.

The Rasmussen Reports ElectionEdge™ Premium Service for Election 2008 offers the most comprehensive public opinion coverage ever provided for a Presidential election.

Scott Rasmussen, president of Rasmussen Reports, has been an independent pollster for more than a decade.

Current results are based upon nightly telephone surveys conducted on the seven days up to and including the night before posting. Results are based upon interviews with more than 1,300 Likely Republican Primary Voters. The margin of sampling error for the weekly update is +/- 3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence

I have to agree wih you about the "Greedy" banks. So you have some "rebel" blood running though your veins? If I had been alive During the Civil War....I would have been on the southern side! Today, Instead of North vs. South...it's Democrat vs. Republican, or so it seems.

Has this turned into a campaign site or is it still a discussion site? I'm a little unclear with all the flashy photos and blasting text. If I want to get bombarded with campaign rhetoric, I watch CNN or FOX. I'd really like this thread to be about peoples' thoughts and dreams. D

I agree EG.   I still need to start a new poll thread.  On the next poll, let's keep it text only and not post any pictures.

FIX IT MITT!!! Mr. Romney received his B.A., with Highest Honors, from Brigham Young University in 1971. In 1975, he got both an MBA from Harvard Business School, where he was named a Baker Scholar, and a J.D., cumlaude, from Harvard Law School. Romney has extensive knowledge and experience in turning around failing companies and the Olympics....this is exactly what America needs in its time of financial crisis. What is happening in the housing market is very scary to me and is overflowing into other areas of the economy.

Mr. Romney has a good record on combating illegal immigration...understanding that voters want our borders secure.

And he is a good, decent family man, still married to his first wife. This is the kind of person I would like to have as my president.

In contrast McCain, while at the Naval Academy, let some subjects slide, graduating fifth from the bottom of his class. He has stated that he is not strong on economics.

McCain has admitted to fooling around on his first wife. He is VERY OLD and seems sickly and weak. The very liberal John McCain asked Democrat John Kerry to make him his running mate for vice president. But Kerry decided not to pick McCain because he felt that McCain was too old in 2004. Now 4 years later, when McCain is 72 years old and has had aggressive skin cancer three times, are Republicans going to be crazy enough to make McCain their candidate for president?

And McCain's raging temper does not bode well for serving in the highest office in the land.

Also there is a reason he is nicknamed McAmnesty!

Good luck Mr. Romney!

We shall see tonight who is the front-runner. I don't understand McCain. His debacle on not supporting cutting taxes and his amnesty support have hurt him with Republicans. It seems he would have known better!

Has the Republican party ( As we know it) been destroyed tonight?.......a lot of CONSERVITIVE Republicans would say so. McCAIN, like it or not has become the Rep. Front runner! Super Tuesday next week........will be CONSERVITIVES' last chance to stop McCAIN. McCain, like Democrats supports higher taxes, amnesty for millions of Illegal aliens. It looks like more and more Americans want to be a "Socialist" country!  I guess we have one more week to see. If McCain wins........A lot of people will not go to the polls in November!......

Gypsy, it's not so much that the Republican party is dead, it's that McCain is a political centrist. I greatly dislike McCain, he's nothing but a damn RINO, but he's pretty much the only shot we have to keep Hitlary/Billary or the Jessie Jackson/Al Sharpton types out of power. Sure, Obama is keeping the two of those arsehats as far as he can, but if he's elected, is anyone so ignorant to believe that he's not going to have them in his ear?

The only true conservative that's running was Ron Paul, and it's not like he ever had a shot. Further, George W. can't even remotely be considered to be a Conservative, so if we didn't become a Socialist country under his rule, I doubt we're going to, though he tried his damndest.

The best possible situation for Conservatives would be for the Dems to nominate Hitlary. She's possibly the single most divisive person in the country, even more so than George W. Bush. Either you really like her, or you totally hate her guts. If she's stacked up against McCain, we're going to have a President McCain.

Gypsy, if you and those who share your political beliefs stay home because McCain isn't "Conservative" enough for you, you're going to get the president you definitely don't want. You want a President Obama or Hitlary, stay home. If you want a president you might hold some sway with, get out and vote. It's up to you who you want in office. If you stay home, I don't want to hear a single word about how evil Obama or Hitlary is from you. You had your chance to keep them out and you let it pass you by.

Turboguy.............you are right! I will not stay at home and risk Billary getting into office. We must do all we can to keep those people out of power!! We might have to hold our nose, when we pull the lever. ( it isn't really that bad )

Great post!....Keep reminding people what's at stake!!

It's funny to read the pitiful comments from the Conservatives on this site and others...regarding Hillary and the Democrats.  As tonight's Florida Primary showed, Hillary has the Democratic ticket locked up.

As for the GOP...well, McCain looks as if he may lead the GOP ticket.  However, that will be great news for the Democrats, because McCain is not electable (no Republican is this time around).

Back in 1996, the U.S. was in a recession, and who was in office at that time?  Daddy Bush.  Now, in 2008, the U.S. is sliding toward recession again!  And who is in office this time?  Dubya Bush.  It's a bit like history repeating itself.  Except this time, the Democrats may control both Houses and the White House.

The Democrats have nominated the worst cantidates I've ever seen through the last two election cycles. Al Gore was about the best they've had in a long time, election-wise speaking, otherwise the guy's a moron. Then last time they nominated John Kerry! Exactly what part of seditionist, treasonous, mental midget, coward did you guys not catch? You all but ensured George W's re-election. If you nominate Hitlary you're going to get more of the same. Obama is the only Democrat with an ounce of sense, and a pound of electability. I hope you guys make yet another mistake in the long string of rediculous mistakes and nominate the single most divisive person in US history.

This shows how little you know about Republicans and Conservatives. You see, if you guys nominate Obama you might have a good chance of winning the presidency. As much as I loathe Obama, he'd make a far better president than Hitlary would. Further, if you guys nominate Hitlary, all you're going to do is totally energize the conservative base into voting against her, thus ensuring a McCain presidency. You seem to be of the opinion that people see the Democrats as something better than the Republicans, when people see them as just more of the same. Hell, the Democratic led House and Senate have lower favorability ratings than the president.

ROFL! At the end of which presidency was there not a recession? I'll give you a hint: It was the president before Bush Sr. I find it absolutely astonishing that you libs can't seem to understand that modern history didn't begin when W. took office. Is the guy a dumbass? You bet. Do I agree with everything he's done? Not a chance. Do I recognize the fact that many of his programs (tax cuts etc) actually kept us out of recession before now? Yes. I hate to break it to you bud, but W. is no Conservative. He inherited a recession from William Clinton, then 9/11 happened and nailed the economy. Was that his fault or might it have been Clintons for making America's image around the world that of global paper tiger?

This moronic economic stimulus package is laughable at best. It's like saying that we're just going to give everyone nonexistant money to spend on crap they don't need, and in a month we're going to be right back where we are now. They need to just let it crash now so we can get through it. If we don't just get it out of the way it's going to be a hell of a lot worse when we have no choice about it.

God help us if that's the case. But on a nicer note, it's not like the Democrats have any sense and they'll push through wildly unpopular legislation like the Assault Weapon Ban, which was the sole reason the Republicans took the House and Senate in 1994. (Clinton specifically cited this P.O.S. legislation as why the Dems lost two election cycles and cost Gore the presidency.) When they do push something stupid through, they'll all get booted.

As I remember AL Gore could not carry his own state ( Tennessee ) in the 2000 Election.....that speaks volumes!!!!!

20 of the last 28 years have seen the Republicans in the Whitehouse..........People just don't trust weak Democrats when it comes to protecting this country!!
