We had a member who started posting weird and outlandish topics a few months back which resulted in an increase to the number of hits to this board. At some point it was decided that the number of visitors was more important than the quality of content. I still try and post my non-avian discussions in the members only area but im to the point of why brother when nobody else follows this rule.

It goes in cycles. There was a lot of discord and OT stuff a few months ago, but at the moment I think we have a lot of good people posting relevant stuff. There might not be any earth shattering news concerning BF right now (and I think Indonesia's news blackout may have had something to do with that), but there is a lot of useful stuff popping up at the moment with regards prepping.

I think we have been doing just fine on here thank you....we are prepping away getting ready for what ever comes our way. The bird flu is where we started and where we may be going but other things come up too....we are well rounded....but we do not lose sight...we arevery serious!

It seems to me we have created a small community here. Not in the sense that we live together but because we have common interests. Talking about other items doesn't take our eye off the large problem that is on the horizon.

The news has slowed down, perhaps to all new levels. The O.T. topics ultimately keep this place going during the slow times. If people are limited to only discussing bird flu, then what do you do when there is no news? This place could have been dead long ago. People also get to know each other better when they share personal news.
The fact is, this site would probably be one of the most popular sites worldwide during a Panflu. Maybe even the biggest. So let's just all keep doing what we've been doing until that time comes, or does not come.
Remember --Things tend to happen when you least expect it.

You are correct Albert and LaRo...if talking among ourselves keeps this blog open I am for it as long as we are civil.
Albert, I am a business woman, have you ever thought of ads on this blog you might as well make some money at this...that survival blog guy has lots of ads. Here is my thinking, if you had places advertise masks, first aid, dry food and other things like that it may help people know where to go to get this stuff. Just a thought, I consider myself a very ethical person and I would not be offended if you did this. |

Hi Flumom, we tried ads in the past, but it was almost more work than what it was worth. Making money off the avian flu is basically a losing venture.
Now, we have told people here numerous times in the past that they can advertise their businesses here free of charge. I would prefer not to post banner ads, but we can post website links and information all we want. We could even dedicate an entire forum to sites that "Sell" prepping items, etc .... I only don't want to post other "forum" links here, but other than that, all other links are fine.

Ok Albert, how about a spot where we can all post web sites where we have purchases items as a reference for people who are not as savy or may just be lazy. I know I have done some shopping and gotten better deals from certain businesses. And on the other side if someone has a bad experience with a business we should also know that.
I think as more and more people become aware of BF and other bad things that can happen it would be great if we could be a dependable source of information. Knowledge is power! Just another wild FluMom idea!! |

Johnray1-I agree with you and posted a comment just like yours a couple of months ago and was chastised for not continuing to expect the bird flu tomorrow. I rarely post anymore because so many crackpots come and go, and while they're here they throw crap and see how much is going to stick to the wall. Recently this site has the appearance of ebay at Christmas time. Someone is always trying to hawk something that has nothing to do with anything.

While some topics may not be "bird flu" they are relevant. The food situation is affecting my prepping for the pandemic. Same with fuel. Same with weather. We need to be aware of lots of things that are going to play a part in the future.
I could live without a lot of the junk though. I have learned which posters to read and who to skip over. I also hesitate to recommend this site to others because of the crazy stuff. |

Ditto. I'm also pretty tired of all of the political debates, and how Obama is evil, and how he will ruin everything if elected, etc. etc. I just don't even want to get involved with it anymore and try to stick to prepping topics. Cole's Nazi/racist crap just makes me shake my head and laugh at him...I think he's off his meds again. But I agree, I don't refer this site to anyone anymore, and it is a shame because it has so much great info and people willing to help, but is so obscured with trash these days. Sorry Albert, but I did mention it to you a couple months ago. |
