Too little too late.  The final leg of the flu season is about to get underway - The height of the flu season.   H5N1 is going to be all over the new human hosts when the height of flu season starts in a few days from now.  The beginning of flu season was in November, which is when we saw the big rush.  That was the" beginning" of flu season.  The actual "height" of the flu season arrives between January and March, which we're about to see.    H5N1 loves to feed off mammalian cells and it's about to get a taste of human genetic cells, which is the biggest feeding ground of all.   I'm not trying to associate any intelligence with H5N1 lol, but the only purpose of a  flu virus is to attack/invade human cells- And that is it.   It has no other purpose/function.   Since H5N1 is now apparently endemic spanning half way across the world,  while entering the height of flu season, this could get interesting ....

I saw a spot on this show the other night, about 2:00 in the AM. It looks to be a worse case show. I posted the date and time it airs before.

I am gonna tape it for my Wife to see. I wish I had taped the one on the history channel.

It was a good docudrama type show.

Who woulda thunk it?  Fox News was less sensationalized than the National Geographic Special.

NG was more compelling visually, but both were very well done.

Dissapointing that both failed to mention personal preparations, tho.

Something I just learned that I did not glean from the earlier announcement:

This special is NOT being broadcast on Fox TV stations.

Apparently there is a thing called FNC which seems to be Fox News Channel which is a subscription only channel, meaning you can only get it via cable or satellite subscription.  Apparently it's Rupert Murdoc's answer to CNN.

So, those of you with subscription television, enjoy, let the rest of us know how it went.

I would suggest anyone who did not have access to view these 2 programs, go online and order a transcript.  They are usually around $5 or so.  Well worth it.

Fla_medic-

Right you are.  No mention at all of any personal responsibility, home quarantine, putting in supplies, etc.  They did however mention that the government was anticipating having to provide food and water.

I just don't understand it at all.  The government is setting themselves up for another Katrina except on a massive scale.  If the people again put their faith in the government to spoon feed them in time of emergency they also have learned nothing from watching Katrina and it's aftermath of human suffering and loss.  Seems calamity is just a spectator sport until your home gets blown away, then all you want to do is scream for help, and look for someone to blame.  Folks - if you're reading this site, and seeing these warnings, and fail to prepare - then guess where the real blame lies ITSHTF.

While I share the dissapointment about the lack of preparation advice on both shows, I am reminded of an old Russian proverb.

The amazing thing about a dancing bear is not how well it dances. But that it dances at all.

Flawed tho they may have been, these were the best two `mainstream' shows that have been aired to date.

Good point.

A dancing bear is better than nothing.  If one expects to dine on filet mignon and ends up with hamburger - you still got fed.

I managed to watch the 2nd airing og the Fox special and it got me to thinking. What if this was the govt.'s way of giving essentially a heads up  that it won't be able to control this. After all, Newt is a Republican and might be acting as a front-man. In that case, this might be just the first show, more to come, each in a more serious fashion. Last night's show was titled "Fact or Fiction". The govt. isn't sure yet, if it's going to break loose, fatality rate etc.I believe they are trying to avoid panic while telling people to get ready, you'll be on your own. And, as usual, most people will ignore it! It's so terrifying, that you stick your head in the sand and pretend. My husband is a case in point. I got him to watch maybe 20 minutes and he FLIPPED OUT!!!!! Now he is convinced that he will die, so what's the point of preparing??? After all, nothing can be done??!! Going to be interesting today, maybe he will be open to discuss it rationally, but I'm not betting on it. Just had to share it with you guys, there is nobody I can talk to about this. Right now I feel very alone.

Well I was disappointed in the lack of information for people to prepare also. I kept thinking afterward they should have made a part two and should have come out with personally preparing (which someone mentioned a possible part 2) we can only hope.  Like Newt should have come on with a followup show right after the first one was shown was they way I was left feeling after watching it.  However, I have noticed in the past the goverment seems to let a bit if info at a time, almost like they don't believe the American public can handle it, so they give it out a little at a time, then a little more, like it's supposed to make it easier or something. This is just my OPINION on anything major that goes on. Maybe this is what they are doing. All we can do is wait and see what they do next.

Newt at the end said something to the effect that the government will not be able to take care of everybody that we as individuals will have to prepare. They did the scenrio of isolated disasters and how other states could help but in pandemic the whole world will be in the same postion and there would be no help. So anyone that has watched the show and has not been prepping or has the knowledge that all of us here do, will be shocked. Now it would have been nice if they presented ideas on prepping. They threw this scary stuff out and then left people hanging.

I'm hoping that people that I have talked to watched it and put 2 + 2 together.

From what I have seen, none of these shows tell people how to prep. Oprah did the same thing. They scare the piss out of everyone and end the show letting people think that they are just flat out screwed. There ARE things that people can do to prep, but yet none of these media outlets are telling people.

Better to be safe than sorry....

My veiws

Show didn't scare me after all I've read about it scarier to read it.

Show said basically Not enough medicine, No vaccine, Hospitals can't handle it ,Yes People will freak

They didn't say you will be on your own without power or water or cell phones Why because people couldn't handle it

Could it be they don't tell people to prep because as soon as they do there will be panic buying and worse.

Also they showed people going out way past the time that I would.

The health care system and fear of being sued makes us behind on producing vaccine.

They don't want to be sued

Yes stardust, I caught that last line too. It was the only reference to the reality that each individual has to take responsibilty for thier own welfare. I think it only resonated with those on this forum or in the prep state of mind already. The show was probably too much information for the 1st timer to wrap their brain around at one time and most will need time to process the info before leaping into action. I feel this is just the first of many shows we will be seeing in the next few weeks. The media doesn't want to create panic shopping esp. since they may be told that there is plenty of time for people to hear this news in smaller doses.

(People still have alot of duck tape and tarps they don't know what to do with.)

I was told once that the gov. won't tell the public to do something that they know a large majority will not be able to do. Like evacuate a city in 4 hous or have people try to buy 100 gal. of water by tomarrow night.   So you will never see them come on tv and say "hurry up and save yourselves by buying this list of items asap."   That would be the end. period.

Here were NG's parting words on the FNC special last night:

"But we can't leave it up to the government by itself to do the job. It's important that everyone works together. And we must begin today."

gives me chills to read it.

(DVR rocks!)

I would be glad to see either shows. If only a kind person in us would record it and then share it on a p2p network. but that would be illegal so they wouldnt do that would they.

Hi, if people come across TV replay days/times on the Fox, CBD and
Discover documentary, please list info. here. I have been quite ill with, yeah
you guessed it, the common, household upper respiratory flu

Reminder to asthmatics:
This can really kick in your asthma big time, and easily leads to acute
bronchitis and, if not treated, to pneumonia. So, watch out!

The national geographic special is re-airing, I found this info:

Race Against the Killer Flu

Imagine a flu that kills 70 percent of those it infects and has the potential to become as contagious as the common cold. Would a wide spread panic break out? Would martial law have to be imposed? Would the global economy come to a halt? These are only afew of the concerns surrounding a deadly strain of avian influenza that first made news in Asia in 1997. Race Against the Killer Flu follows a swat team of virus hunters and the world’s leading scientists in a race to understand the latest threat.

Also airs:
Monday, February 20, 12A
Saturday, February 25, 2:00P
